This weekend is
ICON XXV, and my ticket is already pre-paid. This is also a shopping trip for me, as I am picking up any new releases. I haven't been able to confirm this yet, but I heard that On The Run is out, and has been for a few weeks (NOT the PDF file, the actual book). Is this true? I need to know by this Thursday (3/23).
Thanks.

I don't think it's out in hardcopy yet (or if it is, it certainly hasn't been for a few weeks). The PDF just came out last week, and I'm pretty sure that comes out first.

I took a semester of German...
Don't remember any of it...
Maybe I should start retaking German classes so I can get Shadowrun books sooner...

The crappy translation and editing of the last books are not worth the effort. (I don't know how On the Run is, but SR4 BBB, SoA, SoE, LA all had been shitty). I only buy english Sr-books.

Shouldn't the books be translated FROM German, to English?
The books come out in German first... don't they?

No. They are written in English and then translated to German. English versions should be out first.

From what I understand, SR4 main book as well as On The Run, both came out in German first.
So, are you saying, they should come out in english first, but for some random reason aren't, or am I just too tired to understand you clearly...
almost 6am... haven't gone to sleep yet...

The SR4 main book was availbe in english and german at the same time. On The Run may be an exceptionof the rule, but usually english books are available some weeks before the german translated.

Yeah, they certainly don't want to ask me to write any books in German first. My three years of high school German doesn't serve me that well.

Well, if On the Run came out in German first, I can guarantee that's not because it was written that way.

I don't even have DE's three years of high-school German--just a few classes which have taught me the basics but not enough to write much more than "Hi, how are you?" and "Where's the bathroom?"

What's with "Two beer please?"? The most important sentence in every language

Actually being the brilliantly efficient people they are, the German Barkeeps just serve you two beers the moment you are seated, it saves time and bad translations, besides if you are in a bar you must be there for a beer

Yeah, you always receive a curious look by a barkeeper when you don't order a beer, but something non-alcoholic.
It's a drinking culture over here

The BBB was terrible, you're right...
but the translation of "System Failure" was quite good (level of the good translations like M&M) and what I've seen from the "On the Run"-translation-drafts locked quite good, too.
Seems it's going up again...

Nope, the English one was out before.
I know for certain, since the first English SR4s made it over the Atlantic with Marc from FanPro Germany who was at GenCon when SR4 was released. That was in August just before RatCon (and the reason why he brought some with him, so that we who run the preview rounds didn't have to use laptops...

).
SR4.01D (the German version) was released at SPIEL-fair in Essen in October.

Well, and the ones before too. Especially "Loose Alliances" got a awful bad translataion and editing. I wonder who was responsible for those books? A blind monkey?
My FLGS had the english and the german version of the BBB arrive around the same week, but that may be because of their slowliness
Anyway, i got my copy of the english LE and now own the 2nd printing of the english BBB, so i'm happy.
Got a german BBB as a gift and i'm really happy that i didn't pay for it...

I wouldn't mind even poor a translation of some of the german resources. I am jealous of all the resouces they have at hand.
