The Azusan Tradition

Concept: Azsuan magicians recall the early 1900's, during the the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles, where people in worship would become filled the Holy Spirit. While so influenced, they would speak in tongues, writhe is ecstatic bliss, and call out to the Lord in praise.

Combat: Fire
Detection: Water
Health: Air
Illusion: Earth
Manipulation: Guidance
Drain: Willpower + Intuition
The Azusan Tradition is a Possesson tradition.

The Azusan Tradition is as much as social movement as it is a religous one. Following the precident set by the Azusa Street Revival, modern Azusan practitioners are decidedly anti-racist, accepting people of all metatypes, including the SURGED (rumors even suggest that some Ghouls and Vampires have been accepted into the faith).

Unlike Christian Theurgists, who believe that magic is a natural force without bias towards good or evil, Azusan magicians believe that they are directly touched by the Divine. Their spells are miracles, their spirits are aspects of the Holy Spirit.

Azusan magicians use many of the same sorts of trappings and symbols common to Christian religions: the Bible, prayer, cross or crucifix, holy water, and so on. Their magican lodges are personal shrines that double as places of worship.

Few Azusans have a connection to a mentor spirit. Those that do, decribe encounters straight from the Bible, most frequently with The Burning Bush (Fire-Bringer) or The Virgin Mother (Great Mother).

Is there any specifict reasoning to why you chose those types of spirits and what spell category they are put into?

Also, I'd make Charisma the Drain Attribute. Intuition is used in those "inner enlightement" trads, while this sounds more like an "outgoing", i.e. charismatic trad. wink.gif

Touched by the divine, enlightenment, understanding... these are all standard hallmarks of Intuition based traditions... just like this one.

I admit it - I was lazy and just copied over the Christian Theurge spirits...

What darthmord said. Its not so much about imposing your will on the mana - its about letting the divine power fill you, giving you a direct connection with God.

Imposing your will is not tied to Charisma. Shamans definetly don't impose anything, and still, they resist drain with Charisma.

Logic = formulas, order, structure (Hermetics, Chaos Mages, Wuxing)
Intuition = enlightment, wisdom (Buddhists, Druids, insect shamans wink.gif )
Charisma = connection to higher powers (Shamans, Houngans, Miko, most religions, actually), powerhungry maniacs (Black Magic, maybe Dwagons?)

So, if those jokers try for enlightment through the divine, or try to bring some extraplanar god, that really is the source of their magic, to this world, I'd say Intuition. If they do magic, because they are touched by the divine, Charisma. Really small difference, I know. biggrin.gif

This is just my take on drain attribute/concept connection and while I try to convice you to do it my way, because it's the only good way biggrin.gif, if you don't, whatever. wink.gif

Glad to see you're being objective. spin.gif While I don't agree with your take on the drain attributes, I have been thinking about the tradition's spirits.... Task spirits probably ought to be worked in somewhere. Maybe replacing Air in the Health category.
