I was just wondering if you could choose any actor, which ones would you choose to make an imaginary SR team? Also, what's the reason that you choose them and for which position would you place them in? I was trying to peg down the perfect team but really couldn't get past the magic guy. For me, the only guy who could pull of a real deal magic user, to get down the creepy feel would be Christoper Walken.
Dragoonkin
No way...Walken would have to be Cybered Joe, the cold remorseless killer who doesn't think about anything he does. biggrin.gif

"Yes, I'm going full-auto onto the crowd of schoolchildren and nuns to get my target. After all, this is business."
Finbar
Jean Reno as the crusty Decker, full of bitterness who decks so he doesnt have to see what the world has become.
Abstruse
Samurai - The Rock (Since Ahnold is a bit too old)
Adept - Jet Li (Same with Jackie Chan)
Gunslinger - Colin Ferrel (Just because he's that damn cool)
Mage - Liv Tyler (FotR, she just looked so cool with the pointy ears casting a spell)
Decker - Mathew Lillard (Ever seen Hackers? Mr. Cerial Killer)
Face - Jason Lee (Listen to the guy spout out fast-paced Kevin Smith dialog and you'll understand)
Rigger - The guy that plays Mini-Me (because all riggers are dwarves you know)

I tried to think of a shaman, but there are few roles like that for actors.

Outfitted with Robbie Coltrane's fake beard in "Harry Potter", because all dwarves got beards you know wink.gif.

As for me, I've said it before; Rutger Hauer and Christopher Lambert. I don't care about the rest, as long as H & C is the protagonists and the movie is set in the SR universe.
Sphynx
Hermetic Mage: Milla Jovovich
Shaman: Michael Clarke (this is an untouchable here....)
Adept: Chow Yun Fat

Only decided on the Magic ones.

Sphynx
Tziluthi
Mercenary: Jason Statham.

Oh "the Transporter" was such a cool film.
RedKnightSpecial
Samurai - Howie Long!
Adept - Roy Jones JR would be a great Western Phys-Ad
Gunslinger - Val Kilmer played the best Gunslinger ever.
Hermetic Mage - I have to agree with Milla Jovovich on that one
Shamanic Mage - Vivica A Fox
Decker - Mathew Lillard Again, good choice
Face - Brad Pitt much as I would love to hate this guy, he's damn good (especially in Snatch)
Rigger - Jack Black.
cykotek
Jean Reno, Al Pacino, and Robet DeNiro. Especially Robert DeNiro. Check out Ronin, Heat, and The Recruit.

And definately not Sean Bean. I don't need more fuckups and dead guys (since he never seems to get any other role).
Drain Brain
Ronny Cox (Total Recall), James Earl Jones, Patrick Stewart, James Woods - Mr Johnson - although I guess that's not strictly a team member.

Jude Law, Angelina Jolie - the Face

Jewel Staite (Firefly), Johnny Depp - Hermetic Mage

Adrian Paul (Highlander, the Series - would also make a cool Druid), Lou Diamond Phillips - PhysAd

Johnny Lee Miller, Corin Nemec (The Stand, SG1), John Cusack (Grosse Pointe Blank) - Decker

Jason Statham (Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, the Transporter) - Combat Decker

Angella Basset (Strange Days), Christopher Judge (Teal'c from SG1) - Samurai

Rodney A. Grant (Ghosts of Mars, Wild Wild West), Robert Beltran (Star Trek: Voyager), Rawiri Paratene (Whale Rider) - Shaman

Keanu Reeves as "third corpse from the left"

Sean Bean as the pessimistic ex-Merc tactician - Cykotek, watch the "Sharpe" series... he plays a great military commander, with just the right ammount of "hands on" gruffness

Either Clea DuVall (Ghosts of Mars) or Ellen Muth (Dead Like Me) would make a great "Weapons Specialist" (the latter if you cut and dyed her hair...) look at the picture, you'll see what I mean...

Benicio Del Torro as the Blood Mage/dodgy Aztechnology Agent

Can't be arsed to think of any more for now...
Nightlynx
Hmm... I just tried, but beside from the one's already mentioned above I only got...

Asian female Adept/Decker/Mage:Kelly Hu
Asian male Adept/Muscle: Chow Yun-Fat, Jet Li
Male Muscles/Snipers etc.: Edward Norton, Val Kilmer
Female Adept/Muscle: Dina Meyer

Johnson/Fixer in the background: Sky du Mont, Jean Reno

----------

(Bad guys main henchman: Til Schweiger)
(The Maniac: Ewam McGregor)
(Female Exec: Monica Bellucci)
(Male Exec: William Dafoe)
(Evil mage: Vincent Cassel)

Greetings,
Nyx
Comedian
Coyote Shaman: Christopher Walken. You all know I'm right here.
Physad: I think I'd throw Milla Jovovich up here, just because I have a crush on her, and some of the badass fight scenes in Fifth Element.
Rigger: Gary Coleman.(G.C. for Cali4nia Recall!)
Drug Addict Decker: Johnny Depp(So it's easy to picturee him in the fear and loathing in las vegas gear with a bright silver datajack in his forehead)
Squire
You have to have Christopher Walken. I'd have him play a supporting role with a lot of menace, maybe Loftweir in human form or Darke. I'd have to try to find an excuse to make him dance at some point in the movie.

For a hermetic, I'd have to go with Winonna Rider. Check out the end of Dracula and you'll see what I mean.

Chow Yun Fat would make a great adept, but I'd go with Jet Li. Other options, Jessica Alba (Dark Angel) of Eliza Dushku (Faith on Buffy).

Michelle Rodriguez (Resident Evil) as a street sam or combat decker.

Vin Diesel might work for a street sam, maybe an ork.

Jenna Elfman as an elven shaman.

Monica Keena (Snow White or Crime & Punishment in Suburbia) as a former corporate daughter turned rogue, in Seattle for first time (ala Plus ca Change from SR2).

Sigorney Weaver or Bruce Willis as the fixer.

Robert Duvall or Tommy Lee Jones as Mr. Johnson.

Ryan Phillippe (54) as Damen (the dragon).

Tom Hanks or Mel Gibson as the extraction target.
Fygg Nuuton
nah, walken would be ghostwalker! that dragon is just kinda creepy, but thats me

"I'm... gonna EAT you if... you... don't do THIS run.... forme... I'm... not KIDDING"

Lone Star Security Guard #4: Keanu Reeves

~J
Kurukami
Anthony Michael Hall as the Shaman.
Ralph Fiennes as the Face/BTL-user.
Kelly Hu as the Samurai or Physad, definitely.
Chow Yun Fat as a Samurai/former company man.
Michael Biehn as the sniper with the thousand-meter stare.
Thora Birch as the decker.
Jude Law as the Hermetic Mage.
Matthew McConaughey as the crazed Merc (anyone else here seen Reign of Fire?).

And Christopher Walken as the Fixer. Whoever they get to play Johnson should be not too recognizable... biggrin.gif
Sunday_Gamer
I think my team would consist of Allyson Hannigan, Eliza Dushku, Shania Twain and Jennifer Love Hewitt and ALL the runs would consist of recovering some sensitive data from my pants.

Sunday.

That's why Chris Walken would be such a good spellcaster. Can you just imagine him saying something like:

"I am NOW CASTing a SPEll, YOU are FALLing a SLEEP"
HMHVV Hunter
Alright, my dream team:

-Wesley Snipes as the angsty phys-ad (Blade, anyone?)
-Alyson Hannigan as the shaman
-Jason Staham as the decker (from what i saw of him in "Snatch," he's got the right smart-assed attitude for it)
-Ron Perlman as the street sam (definitely got the stone-cold/sharp tongue routine; anyone who's seen "Blade 2" and "Alien: Resurrection" knows that)
-Michael Biehn as the team's conscience/weapons expert/gunslinger
-Michelle Rodriguez (sp?) as the electronics/B&E expert and second gunslinger
-Nicholas Cage as the rigger (I haven't seen "Gone in 60 Seconds", but from the promos I've seen of him from that movie, it makes sense)
-James Woods as the ticked-off veteran street sam that stays on to ensure that the young turks don't get overconfident and get themselves killed
-Nicholas Brendon (Xander from "Buffy") as the team's mage/comic relief (hey, every team needs a comedian)
-Jesse L. Martin (Detective Green from "Law & Order") as The Face (there's some episodes where his character does a really good acting job to get information from suspects)
-Kris Kristofferson as the grizzled veteran-turned-fixer
Abstruse
Johnny Depp is good for ANY role. I firmly believe he is the single best "star-calibre" actor of his age range in America today. If anyone questions this, watch three movies by him and tell me he doesn't COMPLETELY fall into any character he's given: Sleepy Hollow, Ed Wood, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The man is just that damn good. Give him ANY roll and he'll nail it.

Oh, and I forgot James Gandolfini as the mob capo. And Steve Buscemi as Mr. Johnson
And Quinten Tarantino as the bartender who knows everyone
And yes, Chow Yun Fat as the Company Man
Andy Sorkin as something -- ANYTHING -- just because he kicked ass as Golem
Kevin Conway as Damien Knight (he does the voice of Batman in the animated series, but look at his picture on IMDB and tell me he's not perfect for it)
Michael Clark Duncan as the Troll Shaman or the cyberzombie, one of the two
Chris Barrie as Michael Surehand (I think that's his name -- the decker from Prime Runners and the novel Nosferatu...and you damn well BETTER know who Chris Barrie is smegheads)
Carrie Anne Moss as...well, does anyone really give a damn what role she plays as long as she wears skin-tight pleather?
Tom Cruise as the guy on the streets trying to get people to join the Universal Brotherhood (hey, if anyone knows how to play someone trying to convince people to join an evil cult, it'd be a Scientologist!)

Where's the 20,000¥ question though...who plays Fastjack?

The guy who play's wolverine in x-men don't know his name, (you seen swordfish?)

And the girl who plays mystic for a physad (oh yeah baby)

That would be Hugh Jackman.
Lance Hendriksen as the J! biggrin.gif
Halle Berry as free spirit/fixer whats-her-name, from "Dead Air".
Bob Goldthwait, aka Mr. Zed from Police Academy as Panicky Citizen #4.

But the REALLY important question would be: who gets to play harley grinbig.gif

As long as it isn't Jim Carey, I won't complain.
Abstruse
Johnny Depp gets Laughing Man IMHO. He's a damn good actor and has proven he can play every aspect of Harlequin. Look at Cry Baby, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Sleepy Hollow. Put those three characters in a blender and you have a pretty decent basis for Harlequin to start from.

Plus he can pull off the long-haired pony tail thing pretty well as seen recently in Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

Samurai - Scott Caan, Andy Garcia, Heath Ledger.

Adepts.... all said before.... snipes, jet li, jackie chan.

Deckers - Giovanni Ribisi, Chris Rock.

Riggers - John Goodman, Jack Black.

Electronics experts - Giovanni Ribisi, Rory Cochrane.

Team leaders - Anthony LaPaglia, Anthony Hopkins.

Snipers - Rory Cochrane (CSI miami), Steve Buscemi.

Faces - Jason Lee, Damon Wayans(The last boyscout) , Adam Sandler (everything he talks is shit anyways)

Mr Corp - Ben Afleck.

Shaman - Zach De La Rocha.

Mage - John Cusack

Hhmm. For Busccemi I could definately see him as a Rat shaman.

And I just think Anthony Hopkins would just make either an excellant high ranking corporate guy or fixer. smile.gif
Nightlynx
Since I just saw "Once upon a time in Mexico", two additions...

Eva Mendes (as female Decker or Mechanic/Electronics-Expert, I'd say)
Danny Trejo (as bad-to-the-bone Gangleader)

Not wanting to start a war on the subject, but I'm surprised by how many people on here are extolling the virtues of Johnny Depp! He's always the same character! Weird brooding and dark - which he does well, I'll admit. The only thing I've ever seen him do that's different is Pirates of the Carribean! Obviously, not seen everything that he's ever done, but I'm dubious...

SO can't fault the image, though...

Psy-ad: Jennifer Garner

Mage: Harrison Ford
Rachel Weize(sp?)

Face: Kevin Spacey (thought the obvious one is Dirk Benedict)

Corp execs- Mike douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones

shaman- Donald Sutherland

I was gonna say that!

-Ron Perlman as the street samarai. cyber.gif
-Steve Buscemi has to be the Fixer!
-The troll would have to be played by Paul Wight (aka. The Big Show) just for his 7'2" size and his 400+ pounds!
-The decker would be well represented by Nicolas Cage. Normally I hate this guy, but I think he'd do this particular role well.
-Dunno the guy's name, but anyone that ever watched the show North of 60...the guy who played Peter, the band chief...he'd make a good shaman and represent the native aspect of the game. He has good presence and would do a shaman character justice. (Couldn't find his name on any website...my google-fu is out of practice)
-The face would have to be played by...Dirk Benedict! The original "Face" from the A-team. biggrin.gif

The movie should have a megacorporation as the big bad guy. I nominate either Shiawase or Renraku...Shiawase because it was the "first megacorp" and has the whole japanese tradition thing going for it. Renraku because of the Yakuza connection. If I had to choose between the two, it'd be Renraku.

Denzel Washington would make a great Mr. Johnson and you'd have to give Keanu Reeves a cameo as a data courier. cyber.gif Then have him die!

Nah, For Mr. Douglas that's exactly what he won an oscar for playing in Wall Street. Mrs. Douglas comes across as that beautiful but cold and ruthless corper.

Am I wrong in thinking that about 25% of the people being bandied about are a little on the old side for Shadowrunning? And I don't mean in the buddy-cop-movie "I'm getting too old for this" sense, either. I mean, you can't look cool when you're behind a walker, no matter how much 'ware you're packing.

Of course, if we're talking "in their prime" then it's a different story. wink.gif
Hot Wheels
Ever see Clint Eastwood in "Unforgiven?" He was old then, but pour a bottle of Jack Danials down his throat and William Munny becomes "the man with no name" real fast.
Raptor1033
TG, maybe cause most of the new crop are crap compared to the previous generation. plus with enough planning even the slightly aged can pull off a perfect run.
TinkerGnome
Well, you do note that I qualify it by saying "in their prime" is a different story. And some old guys have made physical bounce-backs. Take Sean Connery for one. He looked almost dead a few years ago, but he's looking good again.

Oh, and an actual contribution. Christian Slater as an Elvis Shaman. True Romance. Nuff said.
HMHVV Hunter
About the people being judged as "too old:"

See "John Carpenter's Vampires." James Woods, though an old man, kicks some major ass, half of which he kicks with his attitude alone.

Makes him a good choice for a vet street sam, IMO.
lodestar
@LotGM: You don't mean Tom Jackson or Grahame Greene do you?

BTW if you like North of 60 Have you checked out Dance me Outside?

I'd have to pick the late Charles Bronson for my team circa about DW:3. I mean he takes out a whole freakin' gang by himself! Respect! Anyone who'd have a LAW stashed behind his couch "just in case" would work well in the SR world.
BigKnockers
Well I think Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland and Tommy Lee Jones could make a great "Oldies" Comeback movie.

30 years of experience vs 30 years of SOTA rolls
Subterfuge
Gary Busey in any roll you want to put him in, he's just that cool.

Yeah, because his characters in Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Sleepy Hollow were all exactly the same. Hunter S. Thompson is such a dark and broody character, and so is Ed Wood...bakayaro...

BTW, I thought of my choice for shaman finally...Ice T. I can seriously see him following Wolf or Coyote.

What about for Ork and Trolls..... either in a suit or just doing the voice.

Id say for voice actors for orks and trolls:

Vin Diesel
John Goodman
Andy Garcia
Ving Rhames

Suit actors:

John Goodman
The Rock
Vin Diesel (he has the build and the gravely voice)
Ving Rhames

I dont think anyone named is "too old", not suitable for the joyboy street samurai role maybe... but watch "Bad Company" and see what i was saying about Anthony Hopkins being a team leader/mr corp.
Swansonegger
I would have to go with Abstruse and Subterfuge and pick one person, who has been picked before: Christopher Walken.

I mean, he can even do the decker thing:

<cut to run down apartment, rest of team is packing up and leaving - Walken is standing beside his gear, ranting>

"Hey, you're NOT leaving me here in this, this, this DIVE again! No, no, you're not, I am not going to break into . . . <door slams>. HEY!! I'm not done HERE! <no one replies - stands there, waiting for a reply that doesn't come, then starts muttering to himself> Ok, fine. Ok. Well. <throws his hands in the air and shrugs> I guess I am staying here then" Ok, ok its bad. Can't seem to write what I want to convey, because I am seeing Walkken's mannerisms, and the dialogue is secondary.

For Street Sam, merc or leader, see Dogs of War.

For mage or shaman, Prophecy (ok, demented mage or shaman)

For face, see SNL's 25th Anniversary (ok, ok, the romance skit *isn't* the best example)

But seriously, I think everyone here can imagine Walken in any role, for any character.

Or the A-Team. Already got a team there.

Oh, please. John DeLancie. Hands down. Who else can believeably play a uber-powerful yet humanly-frail and cosmically arrogant character so well?

As for trolls... I'm surprised no one's mentioned Michael Clarke Duncan. He's certainly big enough, and he can act. The guy who plays Hagrith could also do a good job, and is a pretty decent actor besides.
Finbar
For the Rigger: Bruce Spence.

Go watch Mad Max 1 and 2 and 3, and he's a rigger in all 3!
