Full Version: Game I would like to see...

First I would like to say i'm a fan of the GTA series.

So,... wouldn't it be great if Rockstar Games made a game in Shadowruns' Seattle with the GTA engine and called it Rigger or something?

One player and/or multiplayer online, but a bit more RPG based than GTA of course.

Any thoughts? smile.gif

Well I believe Microsoft owns the rights for making Shadowrun related games. There is supposed to be a Shadowrun first-person shooter game coming on for the XBOX 360 at some point. Haven't been too many details released.
Also, some Dumpshockers supposedly approached Microsoft about making a MMO Shadowrun game, but Microsoft wanted to wait and see how well the first-person shooter games goes before discussing any other games.
TheJaxz
Microsoft.

Do you think they can pull it off?

Isn't everything FPS and RTS nowadays?
Slacker
Well I believe Microsoft has owned the computer game rights to all the FASA games for quite a while, so the only way any SR game is done would be through them.
The only thing Microsoft has done with the FASA games has been with Battletech and Crimsons Skies. Both of which have had good games based on the license.
Also, keep in mind that some FPS games have started adding role-playing elements (character advancments and such). So the game could be more than just a simple FPS.
I'm looking forward to it with high hopes. At the very least it brings attention to Shadowrun.

It would be nice if they made a HUGE map like GTA and that you could travel by different types of vehicles (that you may Rig). Also with MANY building interiors and some kind of matrix options.

With story missions and a GOOD random mission generator, so you had unlimited replayability.

And of course serious amounts of skill, ability, and level advancements.

Maybe this is asking to much? nyahnyah.gif

Really, i think conceptualizing it off of Morrowind would be an excellent idea, but tweak what i feel were some of it's weaknesses, such as being able to gain skill by doing it while not under any stress (as in, in morrowind, i sat in the mage guild one after noon, and did some spellmaking, so that i had the closest thing i could to a teleport spell... a combined jump spell maxed on the distance, added with a feather fall that was delayed to almost the end of the flight, i think i ended up moving half way across the world)

That does sound good, but it probably is a bit much to ask for in the first Shadowrun game to come out since the old SNES and Genesis games. I just hope they don't frag up the world too much.

IMHO, equal parts Deus Ex and Halo would cover most of the bases, from combat to rigging. Add an MMO-like skill bar and some jackpoints and you've got your matrix bases covered. 'Course, stretching a dev team over all those aspects might be a bit much to ask...

The way I see it, Nintendo failed in their Shadowrun game, so unless Microsoft can do better and make an event based game (rather than shoot everything up and still get karma for it), I can see a total flop.

What I would like to see is a variation of Anarchy Online, which has much of what you would want to see in Shadowrun, only set a lot further in the future.

While the Nintendo Shadowrun game was pretty bad, the Sega Genesis game was a fairly good game. Not sure about the Sega CD (Japan only) Shadowrun game as I never played it and wouldn't understand much of it since it was in Japanese.

The game Microsoft is already producing has been billed as an FPS, so although there may be some role-playing elements, I'd expect much of it to involve shooting people and/or sneaking past people.

It is not going to be an MMORPG, though supposedly some people have approach Microsoft with concepts for one based on Shadowrun. The only thing I have to say relating that to Anarchy Online is that it had better have nothing in common with the initial launching of Anarchy Online.

That game was completely and totally unplayable on first launch. And it was the biggest waste of money I have ever found in a game.

So you could say it was... anarchy? -rimshot- There, I've filled my bad joke quota for the day.

Anywho, it'd be nice seeing a MMORPG, but I don't see it happening, especially if they're going to wait and see how the FPS does. I can't see SR making a really *outstanding* FPS, passible and/or generic would probably be the words I'd describe it. Though, perhaps I'm being pessimistic -- we'll just have to wait and see.

As for FPS ruling, it's starting to turn more toward action/adventure and MMORPG lately -- point in fact the number of MMORPGs that have come out lately and not completely bottomed out (e.g. Guild Wars, WoW, City of Heroes/Villians), as well as the newest action/adventure titles (Fable comes to mind) which have seen at least passable success.

Anyone ever play Anarchy Online recently?
I don't know where you guys, but to me it is quite playable... I don't know about console games, but the PC version works well....

With some modifications, it could be an excellent port to Shadowrun!
What it has:
- Hacker/Fixer Grid (can be modded to a Matrix System)
- Implants (Lets get some cyberware!)
- Vehicles, Bots/Drones/Droids A riggers favorite compliment of toys.
- Nanos (can be use as is and converted to magical effects)

Removing some of the space age tech and dropping it into real-world/game-world maps of the world. Factions and Orgs exist, it would be less time-consuming to adapt than any of the other console-like options presented so far...

Well, Deus Ex had cyber, drones (even one that you controlled - ok, it was a cyber-option), hacking, and wasn't too bad given the limitations of old skool computers. It even had skills that could be improved. Best of all, it wasn't a complete shoot em up as free reloads didn't just respawn. You had to scavenge your ammo (from corpses) or loot it from behind closed doors.

If it looks as pretty as HALO, and plays like Deus Ex, I'll be happy. Of course, we down under have to wait a little longer for it (something about the hardware conversion for the PAL world - exsqueeze me, but these days, if it can take a/v input, it does NTSC too)

What about System Shock 2, or Deus Ex: Invisible War? Again RP-like games that easily suggest that a SR FPS game could succeed.

Also on the line of MMOs, no-one's mentioned (or have they?) Neocron. That wasn't a bad game, it had hacknet (although it was buggy last time i saw), hacking, driving, drones, psychic "powers", cybernetics and so on. I had a wonderful spy in Neocron, lots of Barter, specialised in pistols. I'd go around buying apartments for people (as i'd get a heavy reduction), vehicles, and mass components for the constructors.

I would kill, for a SR MMORPG. Maybe an open "run" interface, so that runners get "missions", but have some freedom in what they do to achieve them. Throw in regular GM support and events, and you'd have an excellent game. I'd change my subscription from WoW to SRo anyday!
warrior_allanon
alright, this is how far i would go for a SR MMOrpg
assuming that the Xbox SR game is only going to come out for the 360, i would buy the bloody console just to play SR, and i dont buy console games.
Mr.Platinum
So far it is only coming out on the 360, i think i'm going to buy the 360 and the PS3 cause of some of the title coming for the PS3.

Personally, I'd have no interest in an SR MMORPG. A FPS could be pulled off, and have some RPG elements to it, with a system similar to that in Ghost Recon (can't speak for the sequels, just the originals) -- a very simple "advancement" process, where for every mission a soldier survives, you get a pip to add to your marksmanship, stamina, stealth, or leadership scores.

Marksmanship very literally tightened up the FPS targeting icon, stamina helped to (occasionally) survive multiple shots, stealth (combined with cover, visibility, etc) affected how close/far away you could be before enemies noticed you. Leadership gave an effective +1 to all of a leader's troops, for every 3 pips he had in his Leadership stat.

It was simple, yes, and not at all what I'd call an "RPG" -- but you could tell a difference between someone towards the end of the game, and the soldiers you played with on that first mission.

It was an FPS, plain and simple, but one that still had some crude and effective advancement options in it, that let you shape and mold your team (by shaping and molding individual characters/soldiers within it) in whatever fashion suited your playing style.

I'd be all over a good Shadowrun FPS. A good Shadowrun FPS that let you "tweak" your characters in between jobs? Even moreso.

I´d like an oldschool PC rpg, with small character models that doesn´t challange your own imagined picture of your character, dazzeling pre-rendered backgrounds, unlimited choices with character creation and exploration—and a strong focus on story and dialog. That´s my wishfull thinking.
Mr.Platinum
An SR MMO would be most enjoyable but i have never played an Online MMO so i would'nt know what to input.
Makhno
If you wanna check out a decent Shadowrun MMO (A MUD to be precise, meaning it's a text based game) check out Awakened Worlds at awakenedworlds.net. It's text based so that might be a problem for some people, but it sticks to SR3 rules almost verbatum.

Yeesh, 2/3 of my posts since joining this board have been plugs for this damn game... I'll try not to post more on it; don't wanna seem like a drekin' spammer.
