Hopefully I will be able to start this relatively soon, using a setting based in 2070 era Manchester, england. The game will begin on the 15th of january, 2070 in lower level manchester.
Players will be a rag tag group of runners establishing themselves in the hustling and bustling city of manchester, the third largest city in England.
Character concepts would be appreciated first, one per player - rough guides to their history and personality. If players would like to keep some of the information private by all means message me or send an email to GretikUk@Hotmail.com.
Generation will take place after characters have been chosen, roughly aiming for a group of three to four of standard 400 build point characters. We have a perfectly functional excel spreadsheet to be used to ensure that all characters are valid and equally built.
For those people who do not live in england, a basic map of the country will give you the rough shape and lay out of major cities. Cities as they are in the current day are similar to the 2070 cities in rough shape and the names of major areas, just assume that the shadowrun cities are larger, taller and far grimier.
Oh, and it always rains - It is permanently raining in 2070 manchester.
So no change from present day then.

Definate interest from me, probably will go for a light combat sammie or a socially skilled mage/mystic adept. Which ever seems a better fit for the group.

Sounds good, your obviously the first one in so far so pretty much it'd be your choice.

I'll see who else signs up and what they want to do, I am after all easy.

I've signed up for the Ganger campaign, but wouldn't mind playing in a standard Shadowrun campaign as well. So mark me down as interested.
As for the character, I generally like awakened characters (shaman or adept), but since my ganger will be a street shaman already, I could also go with some cyberware (street samurai or infiltration specialist).

Mark me down as interested as well. I've an old gunslinger adept with a penchant for sporting/sniper rifles floating around somewhere. But if the group needs any specific role filled when everyone's signed up, it's only a few hours to think up another character and do the nuyen shuffle.

I'm interested as well (bringing my WttS total to 4 games at once... eek).
But I've found I *still* have time at work to troll the forums, so sign me up.
I think I'd like to play a mystic adept who is also a doctor. Will post the details later today.

Guess I shall go for a Mage with some face capabilities then, as we seem to have plenty thuggery developing
Gretik
Mar 11 2006, 03:22 PM
Random thuggery is a time honoured tradition of manchester, as is gun crime and large bombs.

You missed fighting with the Leeds United fans on a regular basis...
Anyway, this sounds interesting, so I might be in. My character creation-fu is weak though, so I'm not certain what I'll play. I'm tempted to play a combat mage type, but I'm not too sure about magic...or the rest of SR4 really.
Gretik
Mar 11 2006, 03:34 PM
Well, I can help with creation somewhat, my creation-fu is adequate if not quite fully zen-like. I have a pretty solid excel sheet to aid matters.
Gretik
Mar 11 2006, 03:35 PM
And how can you rate fighting with leeds over the in fighting between city and united fans, or god forbid - arsenal or liverpool fans.
Gretik
Mar 11 2006, 03:37 PM
Well, I have one friend who was already signed up before I even posted this who will put his concept down in a bit - this seems like enough people for now.
It would help if people could work on their character backgrounds a little first as to give them a reason why in specific they are in manchester, shadow running. No particular affiliation is required or particularly wanted, but the group will be tentatively under the 'employ' of a man named Ivan.

Ivan, Just Ivan. A tall, handsome Russian man in a fine brown suit, he has a silver tongue and is a smooth operator; but don't be fooled by his appearance, underneath he is a cold and calculating killer. An ex-hitman, he knows how to handle himself.

With all the interest in magically active characters, I will definitely make a mundane then.
I'll post up something soon.

Noia beat me to it with the monosyllabic, ex-hitman. (Though mine was goign to be Sven from Norway). I'll go and rework the background to something different. Adept with a bit of bio/cyber thrown in (because everyone's gotta have implants, or it's not cyberpunk!). Going to specialize in sneaking about and making people meet abrupt and painful ends. Likely mercenary or bounty hunter background.
Gretik
Mar 11 2006, 05:09 PM
Sounds good, but theres no reason why you couldn't play as Sven - it'd make for an interesting group.

How do you pronounce Ivan in a single syllable?

Gretik

Very quickly.
Noia
Mar 11 2006, 05:29 PM
Ivan is pronounced Eye-Van with a round V.
As for Sven from Norway, sounds like fun but I should warn you, I'm Norwegian
Thanee
Mar 11 2006, 05:34 PM
Yeah, but then you are a duosyllabic ex-hitman, instead of a monosyllabic ex-hitman.
(I was only kidding there, really.)

I could get used to the nam "Crazy Ivan", though I'd have to keep looking over my shoulder

As for a rough background idea, I was thinking of a former runner (human or elf), who has had a run go seriously wrong and had to move. She fled to england and used up most of her savings to cover her tracks, get new IDs and start a new career there. She has good cyber-/bioware and some toys she could smuggle out, but otherwise only legal or easy to obtain equipment for now, and she is seriously broke. She also has few contacts, her old ones either turned on her or were left dead... one new aquaintence would be Ivan, I suppose.
Skillwise, I will surely have decent combat skills, but other than that I thought about some knowledge needed for the breaking & entering business (Hardware most importantly to get past those pesky maglocks, maybe some computer/matrix knowledge). In addition to that, the usual suspects, like some Athletics, Stealth, Perception, Pilot.

Ok, I've a rough concept..
I'm thinking of a runner that's originally from the Leeds/Bradford area, that ended up in Manchester due to either money (or lack thereof), or because he upset someone in Bradford.
This gives me the opportunity to disparage Manchester constantly
In terms of abilities though, probably a combat mage with a really, really big gun.

Sven (who may turn out to be a Dane instead of a Norweigan, now that we have an expert to pick up on my mistakes
started out as a bounty hunter, mistaking his latent adept abilities for raw skill. He slowly accumulated bits of bioware to help him out in his chosen profession about the same time he found out dead bounties were less trouble to bring in than live ones. Riding the wave of lucrative contracts that followed Scandinavias rise alongside the Erika corp post-crash, he is currently on extended vacation after a botched assassination attempt in Stockholm.
I notice we've no hackers/technomancers in the group so far. WIll this be a problem? If so, I do have a hacker PC lying about as well. I can't make much sense out of the hacking rules as they are written in the BBB though, so I'd probably end up making a lot of mistakes my character ICly would know better than to commit.
Gretik
Mar 11 2006, 09:57 PM
It shouldn't be much of a problem - not having a hacker makes things in some ways simpler. If people need an excel character sheet Noia and I have copies hanging around.

Working on the character now. Does anyoen know how the "modified skill rating" rule works? Lets say I have a skill at rating 5, is the highest modified skill rating 7 or 8?
Gretik
Mar 12 2006, 01:56 AM
As far as I understand it, you can have one skill at 6 to begin with, then raise it to seven with the exceptional skill quality. Once modified, normal skills cap at 9 and the limit is 10 with the excepional skill quality.
BlackHat
Mar 12 2006, 02:06 AM
Okay, that owuld actually imply that if you had a 7, and skill x 1.5 = 10, that you are supposed to round down... so that actualyl answered my question.
Thanee
Mar 12 2006, 08:05 AM
I think if it doesn't say that you round up, then you round down.
Except for Adept abilities and Reflex Recorders is there anything that actually modifies Skill Ratings?

@thanee - nothing springs to mind.
I'm going with playing face mage type. As mentioned, big on spirits following a gardenarian wiccan tradition. Will + Int on drain, I'll post up the spirit links when i find what I wrote for a friend character, but it is fire, air, water, earth and man in some order. Female Elf from the British Nobility, kicked into shadows due to her antigovermental leanings (ie she aint a fascist and supports the Movement, see Shadows of Europe). Probably have some connection to the Alderley edge power site, near manchester.
@Gretik - are you using any house rule on contacts? Or do I have to blow extra points on them?
Gretik
Mar 12 2006, 12:08 PM
Two times charisma seems fair and is on the sheets I have used for other characters before, just don't expect your contacts to be unwaiveringly faithful to you

2xCha as free points for Contacts?

Hey guys. I've been looking at my schedule for the immediate future. I'm afraid it looks like I will have a hard time getting near Dumpshock regularely for about a month at least. Since the game isn't started yet, I think it might be better if I bow out in favour of someone with a more reliable posting schedule. It's no fun if everyone has to wait for me to catch up after all.
I hope this won't cause any problems?
Gretik
Mar 14 2006, 12:35 AM
Its a pity but it shouldn't actually cause any hassle - if things change please do come back and say.
