Full Version: Machine Sprites in Drones

How does it work to have Machine sprites in dones. They lack both the gunnery and pilot [insert appropriate] skills, so how do they do it? are they just in better control, and command the dogbrain via the command complex form? If so then what are the skillsofts they are capable of getting for? If you drone has a built in skillsoft (like the doberman) can the machine sprites use said autosofts? Does the sprit simply insert its own rating instead of a pilot rating? And on another topic, what drones can be given weapons? Some say that weapons are included/built in, but can other drones be armed? Also, sending a machine sprite into a drone, that counts as a remote task, yes?

There's nothing spelled out in the book regarding machine sprite, so here's my opinion...

You can have the machine sprite control the drone via two ways, "jumping in" or remote control. If you use remote control, then the drone's just off your subscription list and instead be put on your sprite's and your sprite can use the Command complex form to control it. In using the sprite this way, it can remain in the same node as you, and therefore won't have to be considered a remote task.

If the sprite is jumped in, then it would cound as a remote task. The sprite replaces drone's pilot rating with its own. It may or may not be able to make use of the autosofts that come with drone, but a machine sprite can have any autosoft as an optional power. So you'd need a rating 6 to have maneuvability (piloting) and targeting (gunnary).

I would say any drone medium size and up can have a weapon mount, therefore be able to handle a gun LMG or smaller.

Top of page 341. Many drones/vehicles can be armed-- anything with Body > 3.
