Full Version: Origins 2006 Report

Hey folks,

I just wanted to share a little bit about Origins 2006. The GM team went in with a schedule of 12 Shadowrun Missions tables. (Two runs each of 6 different scenarios.)

All of the games were scheduled to allow for 6 players, but somehow we seemed to end up with more than that at a lot of them. Origins overbooked several events, and we also usually had players waiting in line to get in. On the other hand – their generic tickets were some of the coolest I’d ever seen. They were custom ceramic poker chips.

In the end, we seated 80 players across 13 tables. One badly overbooked session also had an extremely long line of generics. So, I was lucky enough to find another GM who agreed to run it. If we’d had a few more GMs, we probably could have managed this several times. (Subtle hint: If you like running Shadowrun, contact us! We have a solid compensation package, and I know I’ve found working the conventions to provide all sorts of new ideas for home games.)

Many of the players were new to either Shadowrun or Shadowrun 4. However, quite a few old hands put in appearances as well. I know at least 3 characters managed to play in all 6 of the adventures available for the show. (Their characters all were in the 60+ Karma range.)

The Puzzler went over pretty well, but some people seemed to think I might have made it a bit too challenging. Two players tied for the 1st place with 33 correct answers, so Linda’s character Holly will be receiving a rating 6 Smartframe and Larry’s character Victor will be sent a brand new Harley-Davidson Scorpion. Both are courtesy of Don Casquilho’s generosity.

Thanks to all who attended -- I had a great time. I'll look forward to see many returning players next year and hopefully a few new faces. cyber.gif

As one of the people present this year, I have to say it was a great time and one of my best convention experiences ever. Kudos to the GMs who put up with lines of people and noisy gaming rooms to put these runs on for us players.

It makes me want to keep playing more than once every couple of editions . eek.gif

I was the character running Bodog, dwarven master of Headbutt Kung Fu (as Lady Jade's car door can attest!). For those of you who Bodog had the pleasure of running with this past weekend, I salute you.

I think I may just do that....The other day one of my players actually stopped me after a session and basically told me that he loved the scenarios I put together and the way I run games and that I should look into running games at conventions in the future. (that really got me thinking considering that he is also a GM and he has GM'd at numerous conventions in the past).

Once I get back into the swing of SR4 (the other night was the first SR session I've ran since SR2. smile.gif I'm going to start linking into this!
