I haven't noticed anyone mention MitS cover? All it is missing is a firearm. Say a pistol in a holster on the conjurer, or a guy standing in the background near the corner of the building with an MP5 in hand looking back against the city skyline, and it would pretty much embody SR for me.

I'm rather fond of the cover of Shadowtech.
Kyoto Kid
...nice Terminator tribute.

Checking the pdf the cover art is credited to a one Michael Komarck. And from his site it would appear he also did the very nice cover for Running Wild as well.

Dude. That guy did a lot of my favorite stuff.

The Ork Gunslinger adept is my favorite piece in the SR4 book. Hell, my character became a female after seeing that picture, simply so I could say "My character description?" *flips to page* "Here."

He also did a lot of the really good art from Arcana Evolved, my other favorite RPG. Nifty!

I bet the new wardrobe must have cost him/her a fortune. How much did he/she pay for the operation? Did the change have a positive or negative effect on his/her relationship with his/her contacts? Did he/she get more work afterward?

Ditto, it may not be my favorite, but it was the image that got me started buying all the Shadowrun product in the catalog.

I always loved the one with the troll in a coffin hotel, I think it was in SSG. It's good to see trolls illustrated as something other than mobile weapons platforms.

All time fav has to be the classic "skull logo".

Agreed. I have a couple of pics that (I think) are from the run-up to that atrocity of a video game from macrosuck that show some trolls in some pretty humanizing situations.

The best, I think, is one where a troll that looks like a factory worker is sitting on what looks to be a low wall (it's a sketch, to not much detail), and he's looking at the "camera" with a genuine look of "what's my life about?" Great stuff. I'll see if it's on my datastick. If it is I'll throw it up and link to it. It's good stuff.

edit: nm, I found it online (which is good, since I just pulled the directory that housed it off my stick...); and after looking at it again, I suppose you could draw a few things from the look on his face

Troll Picture

Drop back to www.frogchildren.com and click "gallery" at the bottom for more of this guy's stuff. Some of it is pretty good.

hah, double edit: This is the page that shows his 3d models, but if you scroll down you get some more troll art.

yeah i think that guy's model looks pretty awesome, but in all fairness, having the nose up so high in the default pose doesn't give it much room to make angry or disgusted faces.
Kyoto Kid
...I believe it was in Second Ed. There was a pic of a very sophisticated looking orc in a tres chic suit. I liked it so much I made up an orc character who dressed the same with fairly high social grace and high society etiquette. He was a "retired" sports star who made wise investments from his earnings and maintained a High lifestyle supported in part with his activity as a runner.

good picture, yeah... i think that was the ork samurai from the street sam catalog...

There was once a troll in a jacuzzi checking his portfolio.

He had some company, as I recall.

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I'll post my second favorites:

Cover Art: Neo A's Guide to Everything Else & Shadowrun Quickstart Rules
(The cover so nice they used it twice)
I've always been partial to this one. The hard angles of the heavy industrial location make for great framing, and the characters, gear, and the spellcasting are all to the nines. If I remember correctly, posters of this art were the third prize in some sweepstakes tied to one of the Shadowrun 16-bit console games (not sure if it was the SNES or the Genesis version though).

Interior Piece: Alex Ross's picture of Dodger (viewable as "Shadow Run Sketch 12" (sic) in his gallery here) from the first edition core rules.
Throughout the years, this is the image that can always evoke Shadowrun in my mind. Elf and cyberdeck, what more do you need for SR?
Interestingly enough, until just this week, I had never made the connection on who had drawn this. It's the same Alex Ross who later went on to make a big name for himself in comic books with titles like Kingdom Come, and countless pieces of cover art. Doing interiors for Shadowrun was one of his first gigs before he ever made it big, but you can definitely see the quality he had, even back then.
Kyoto Kid
...though I find much of the art in SR4 kind of lacking compared with some of the earlier versions and sourcebooks, there are a couple of notable pix

The Radical Eco Shaman in the sample characters section - definitely my fave of the entire book (also glad they didn't do another "Cain"-like adept like in SR3)

The Occult Investigator is pretty cool looking as well. Actually reminds me of someone I know.

The scene of the runner team in what appears to be an entry way (don't remember which section), the one with the Troll who is carrying an assault cannon.

The guy tinkering together the robot on the title page of the Creating a Shadowrunner chapter.

The street scene at the end of the Running the Shadows section. Love the "vintage" piece of "Detroit Iron".

THAT Alex Ross??? He's certainly come a long way smile.gif

Bradstreet all the way(the alex ross stuff too), Bradstreet's work embodies shadowrun for me, all the art in the new book, although good art, just sort of has this action figure type of feel to it like very smooth and round and childish, still cool at times though and i really like the anime flair. But when i run a shadowrun game, or i play in one i always go back to that old dark art...its just the best it feels SOOO cyberpunk to me, really puts my mind where it needs to be.
SL James
Well, it doesn't hurt that Bradstreet's artwork is based on photographs he takes. However, it's a shame that from what I heard his dealings with RPG companies (including FASA) nearly drove him to a nervous breakdown.
Smed
Anything by Bradstreet from the SR2 books. He's done the best SR art hands down.

I really dislike much of the shift in tone in later editions of the game to more of a cartoonish feel for the artowrk. It went from gritty to silly.

Sorry for this extreme thread necromancy, but I've been reading through the important archieves (read threads I've posted in) and this one is still dear to my heart. I'm still going to say that particular piece of Bradstreet art is my favorite, however, I'm also going to say I enjoy a few pieces of more modern art as well. Such as the weapons specialist (my current avatar) and the covers of Runners Havens and Runners Companion.

So if you haven't chimed in already what is your favorite piece of SR artwork? If you already have answered has it changed?

Going by the sample characters in the main book, I'm quite fond of the Dwarf face's art.
Redcrow
I'm a big fan of Bradstreet, but one of my favorite pieces of art is the cover of the Runners Companion by John Zeleznik. Very sexy!
Method
The cover of SoE is one of my personal favorites.
Saint Sithney
Bradstreet's work on comic covers is still quite awesome. All that Hellblazer stuff and all the Punisher covers for the MAX imprint.

You can tell he's still got that same Shadowrun juice in his veins. If only the publishers would shell out enough to get more art out of the sucker..
Kumo
SR4A, p. 72 - picture at "Metahumanity" section. Heh.
Gunslinger adept from SR4/SR4A - great picture... and those haircut!... and boots!
Covers of Street Magic, RC and Running Wild.
Seattle 2072 p. 91 - ork using illusion spell to look human. Very nice idea.
