I played in a one-shot game recently, and a buddy of mine had a brilliantly devious character; the Mad Bomber.
This fellow has Demolitions, electronics skills and chemistry knowledge maxed out, and a simple little biomonitor hooked up to a suicide vest. If he ever ends up at -4 on the physical damage track, KABOOM.
Anyways, he's obvious about it too; he doesn't hide anything once the fighting starts. He opens up the lined coat, shows off the vest, and runs around with impunity blasting off on full auto with an AK-97 (old school baby!), and pretty much everybody knows not to shoot him from closer than 200m or so.
Which is fine.
anyways, he got shot by a sniper, and the whole party was killed. Time to go make new characters...
damn.
But it was a damn funny game. He would charge right up to corpsec guards and they'd drop weapons and split before they would run from a raging troll sammy. Bloody hilarious.

...quite devious, I like this...I might have to 'borrow" it.

Hmm, I like it too, but I have to wonder what would have happened if a mage put up a good Physical Barrier arround him and then mana bolted him? Chunky Salsa perhaps?
(Yeah I know that more then likely the barrier would be toast unless put up by an IE or Dragon, but hey, its the imag the counts...)

When I saw the heading I couldn't help but think about a character that we had in college (SR 2) with the name "Mad Bomber". He was a dwarf with max demolition skill who wore a Santa Suit and passed out "toys" that would go "BOOM" to the neighborhood street urchins. In his mind he was helping clean up the world.
Cool concept here though.

Yeah, Ive been rethinking my initial assessment. Could be fun, but rather shortsighted. Proper for Orks perhaps.

Would be great for a troll, since he could probably survive the explosion

From the series Farscape:
Staleek: "You've taken a great risk coming here. Why shouldn't I just have you seized, right now?"
John takes a step forward and pulls back his coat, revealing the bomb which is strapped to his side.
John: "Well, maybe this."
War Minister Ahkna: "What's that?"
John: "Plutonium core. Tritium shell. Does that translate?"
Staleek: "A fission bomb."
[...]
John takes a couple more steps towards the table: "Now, before anybody decides to get clever, you should know I have multiple deadman sensors from every culture on my ship and a few cultures I haven't heard of.
My heart stops... we all go boom. My heart speeds up, it's boom again. Too hot, too cold, too happy, too sad, thirsty, hungry bored... it's John Lee Hooker time. Boom, boom, boom." He looks at War Minister Ahkna: "And you try your little psychic trick... kaboom. And we're all pushin up day-glo daisies."When I ever meet a dragon, I must get me a fission bomb

Can't someone simply hack the biomonitor and make him dead?

Remember to get the highest firewall you can and powerful defensive IC, otherwise one spoof from the distance by a technomancer and you'll end up on the C.L.U.E. files. Going arround with explosives straped to you is just asking for infamy points however.
Hoqwever good concept for a runner not afraid to die, and maybe for a villian as well with a good excuse for why he keeps escaping (though not so much for "How the frag did he survive that!"

Obviously this is one case where the smart anarcho-suicidalist uses only hardwired systems. Sure... you can hack him, if you step right up next to him and plug into his gear...
Even with a signal of 0 you aren't going to be happy when he goes up thanks you your hacking....

I'm surprised no-one has referenced Raven from Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash who has a similar survival technique, although slightly more impressive. If I recall correctly (it's been a few years), the line goes something like:
"But what really catapulted Raven to the heady heights of badest motherfucker in bad motherfuckerdom, was the A-bomb."
I seem to remember that he kept it in the side car of his motorbike and it was tied to brain activity. One of the best books I have ever read in any language.

Yeah, there's no reason why you couldn't pull this concept with a chemical weapon instead... I've never played a game where the players were allowed to get our hands on plutonium (we tried twice, it didn't go so well...) so the A-bomb option probably isn't viable.
But if you've got a sucker GMing your game, you're set!
Anyways, this was a one-shot game and we all kind of knew it, but it might make an interesting contact or weefle-runner.
Imagine your players drop a load in their panties when they're in a firefight and suddenly the Mad Bomber opens his vest, and the characters see the vest...
A single success on a demolitions roll reveals the approximate blast radius of the bomb, and bingo, your combat turns into all the PCs trying to get far enough away from this idiot who keeps following them, so that they're out of the blast range when they take the shot.
I like the phys barrier and the mana bolt idea. That could work, depending on the size of the bomb.
Anyways, I just wanted to share a character concept that made our last game a laugh riot.

Methinks I'm going to use this--I needed something for a whizzer gang to use as cannon fodder and I think some poor slot under a mind control spell would work wonders...

Kindof reminds me of how i had a johnson make contact with a runner group. Via a disfavored employee running a personafix sim, wearing a latex disguise, and having an area bomb (nice for negotiations). After the meet, would give a 'This message will self destruct in 10 seconds' warning.

Even better if you could fake out the same thing with play-doh and spare parts.
Of course, wouldn't it take quite feat (like way beyond your average corp-sec goon) to recognize, in the midst of the smoke and chaos of a fire-fight, that a guy was wired to blow against a bio-meter?
Also, I guess I play a little griitier... Usually dudes who break cover with no supporting cover fire get torn to shreads pretty damn fast...
<shrugs>
Sounds like it was pretty funny tho'
