Ok i have just finished the second book of the series. I really liked the first and the second did not let me down. I really can't say enough about these books, there great. Everyone i know, or even heard of, hase also given them rave reviews.

Ok, so that being said. There is not a lot of attention being given to them in the US, being Russian in organ. As such there is not a big english fan base. Anyone that likes the Shadowrun universe will love these books.

So, what is the point of this post your thinking...

well. if any of you have read the books, i'd like some input on how to reformat the SR3ed system to the night watch universe. If you haven't read them go do that right now...

awww. I thought this was a prachett thread.

that's what I get for not reading the sub-headline, I suppose.

Have you seen the movie? If so how does it compare to the book?

I saw the movie a while back and quite enjoyed it. I didn't even realize that there were books in print (Russian let alone English).

the movie was good, but only tangent to the book.
the movie really only covers the first third of the first book. with a few things from the second book thrown in. The polt was changed a good bit too. but as a movie i liked it. The books are so much better though.

Thanks - that's exactly what I was hoping to hear.

I've seen the movie, the books are on my 'to read' list.

It wouldn't be too hard to do in the current setting. I see two important steps:
1) Create a new magic tradition. It's very widespread, but very secret. It's drawn on the lines we see in the movie, a dark/light, good/evil dichotomy (or something a little more vague, since this is Shadowrun).
2) People who are part of this tradition get more diverse results, sort of like the SURGE table, but more sensical. Some people who 'initiate' into this tradition become shifters, some get magical powers, etc.

All the rest of the details are pretty easy.

You can either engineer it so it's a karma hog meant for awakened only, or make it so its open to anyone and cybered folks just get a different set of benefits.

(I will admit, it's been a bit since I've seen the movie, so I may be off on a few details.)
