Hello. This is a recruitment thread to join the
Never Trust an Elf: 2072 Part II Post by Post campaign module. Never Trust an Elf part II is the second part of an ongoing Dumpshock campaign which has expanded from a solo adventure to a multi-dimensional group. The adventure is taking place in Vancouver, Salish Shidhe and Victoria Island, Salish Shidhe. If the story goes well like the first part, then there may be a third part in the works. Thus far there there is one slot that is taken up. The character is Vera Renczi (Chrysalis), a doctor/face who specializes in social infiltration. I would like to keep the party to a minimum so we are looking for up to three more potential PCs, with an option for a reserve list. The story will be street level in nature and will focus on story and roleplaying above mechanics. As a special rule, I am allowing characters from other campaigns either post by post, chat, or even pencil and paper campaigns to enter the module. They may carry over earned karma. I ask that they be based off the 400BP character creation rules and the characters must meet GMs approval. Here are creation guidelines.
- It will be a 400 Build Point character creation campaign.
- There will be a 200 Build Point Maximum allowed on Attributes, 50 Build Point Maximum on Resources (Unless you are using the Born Rich Quality), and a max availability 12 (except with restricted gear).
- SR 4th/20 Anniversary Edition rules will be utilized.
- Every character creation book and supplement is at the PC's disposal with the exception of Surge Qualities and Possession Mages. Since I am not familiar with all of the goodies in every book, some other advantages might be nixed. I am a fairly lenient and opened minded GM, so there is a good chance that this will not be the case and most things will be allowed.
- Characters may be ported from current or pre-existing campaigns. The more history and character development the character has had, the better (This also saves people the time and energy of having to create new characters). Players may transfer karma and nuyen which has been earned over to this story (Just as long as it's not overboard). These characters must meet the approval of the GM and should fit into the story (See below).
- Limit of two awakened characters to the party. (There are currently none)
Never Trust an Elf 2072 is an urban street level setting campaign. The characters will be playing the roles of social infiltrators looking to conduct wetwork for the Saeder Krupp corporation. One of the player characters, Vera Renczi (who is the main protagonist from the previous story) will be acting as the Ms. Johnson for the team. Player characters will be expected to post every few days and a minimum of once a week, unless it is stated that they cannot for personal reasons in the OOC thread. If players do not contribute to the IC thread or communicate in the OOC thread for more then a month and do not respond to nudges then, a reserve player will take their place. Unfortunately, in order to keep a good pace to the game, the story may move on if a player is inactive for more then a few days. Since this is a specified run, there are certain archetypes and skills sets that are being looked at by the specific Ms. Johnson for the job.
Here is a listing for certain skill sets and archetypes which are currently be sought in the shadows for this job.
- Hacker/Technomancer.
- Weapon Specialist
- Infiltration Specialist (Having a balance of Social and Physical infiltration will be an advantage.)
- Having Social Skills will be a plus and make the game more enjoyable for the PC.
- Medical Skills are an advantage.
- Forgery and Disguise are heavy benefits as well.
- Characters who are from or have multiple contacts in Vancouver or Victoria Island will have benefits, but this is not necessary.
More likely then not the runners will not have worked with each other in the past. But I will let the PC's decided if they want to be a regular team. Or at least have run into each other in the past. Here is what I need from potential PC's before being accepted and here is what I am looking for in terms of the application process.
- Character sheets under a organized and clear format, including character build point breakdown. If you are having a problem finding one, I can supply a sample.
- A suitable character biography
- Physical Character Description.
- Character Vignette (Optional).
- 20 questions (Optional)
Feel free to post your applications in this thread, send me a Private Message, or send them in an email to SincereAgape@hotmail.com. I'll open this thread up for questions, thank you for taking time to consider joining this PbP game. Never Trust an Elf is your classic street level Shadowrun Story. Where you have very few places to run, and even less to hide. Be professional, have fun, and don't forget to throw in a shred of pink mohawkism.

Hi guys.
Already received interest to fill all three open slots for the game. In addition to having the character approved by the GM, there will also be an in character interview with Vera as soon as the character sheets are in. It will be treated as a potential meeting with a "Ms. Johnson" and thus she maybe looking for specifics in Shadowrunners to join her team.
If the runners skill set and personality do not gel with her plans for the run, they maybe be denied for acceptance into the team (And therefore the story). This is a difficult process to go through to get into a PbP story. But we're looking for quality to fit the type of story Never Trust an Elf has come to achieve. This process also simulates a realistic approach to hiring in the world of Shadowrun 2072. And focuses on the importance of character, street reputation, personality, appearance, in the Shadows community.
Thanks,
Agape.

Alex "Icarus" Dumont
Background
[ Spoiler ]
Alex Dumont was born in Seattle on November 18, 2049 into an upper-middle class family. An only child, he was doted on and sent to the best schools in the city. His natural skill with a cyberdeck, and later a commlink, were a source of great pride in his parents. As they years went on, however, his parents grew ever distant from one another, and from Alex. Eventually, the only time they ever interacted with each other was when Alex left his room to use the toilet or to be caught in between one of his parent’s numerous fights. (“Alex, tell your mother that…” “Alex, you love me more than you do him, right?” etc etc)
In 2064, the Crash 2.0 happened. Alex was an impressionable 14 year old at the time and amazed by the carnage and destruction caused by these beings of the Matrix. He determined then and there he was going have to be one of the greatest hackers who has ever lived to be able to survive (or even prevent) the next big crash. But secretly, part of him just wanted to leave his house…
At age 16, he got into MIT&T’s Online Matrix Science curriculum. A mild allergy to cigarette smoke, probably caused by his chain smoking mother, kept Alex out of the bars and club scene. This kept Alex online most of the time, and by age 18 had graduated with a degree in Matrix Theory and Applications. After graduation, he left home, and attempted to go find his fortune in the Shadows and become The Greatest Hacker that has Ever Lived.
He was young and inexperienced, but a lot of people need a good hacker. He went by the persona ‘BlueFalcon’. Alex felt young and invincible that first year, getting some good cred, upgrading his gear, and buying his first car. But he was still young and foolish. Alex didn’t clean up his data trail as well as he should have on a couple runs, and still was using his old SIN.
Eventually everything came crashing down upon him. He botched the hack on one run, and soon had Lone Star hounding him everywhere he went, along with some irate Johnsons. Eventually he had to strip and burn his old SIN and his old life, destroying his first custom built commlink, car, apartment, and truly become one with the shadows.
Alex lay low for almost six months in Seattle living on the streets, hacking vending machines and coffin motels, before taking the ferry up north to Vancouver to start a new life there. That was 3 years ago. He now goes by the persona “Icarus”, and he finds the name very fitting.
Over the past 2 years, Icarus has been going on the occasional run, and slowly building back up his gear, reputation, and bank account in Vancouver. A recent string of glowing successes has landed him flush with cash and in a wonderful downtown condo for a few months, and almost has him thinking he in invincible again…Almost.
Physical Description
[ Spoiler ]
Alex is a relatively good looking kid, who still looks rather young. Pale caucasian, green eyes, about 5’10” tall and 140 lbs. He lost a lot of weight in his 6 months of street life in Seattle, and tried hard to keep it off. While not built or defined, Alex is also not sickly looking. Being thin and wiry also helps keep him looking younger than he is which keeps people guessing. His brown hair is kept short and unassuming in whatever happens to be the latest wage slave trendy hairstyle. When out and about, Icarus typically wears a Synergist Business longcoat over his shirt and slacks. When on a run, the Chameleon suit comes out.
His online persona and avatar are of a 6.5 ft tall alabaster Greek statue wearing a rough shirt and loincloth. The body and limbs of the avatar are very fluid and human in its motions, however the head of the avatar does not change expression nor does the mouth even move when speaking (http://www.mlahanas.de/Greeks/Arts/Misc/DiadHd1.jpg). The other striking feature of the avatar is the tall metal wings (ala Archangel of X-Men fame (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gWQaU40PH24/SfdT8-z1C9I/AAAAAAAAB-4/QeSr0Kf5Qb0/s1600-h/archangel-0001.jpg)) protruding from his back, typically folded behind him. If anyone asks about them, Icarus simply states “Flying too close to the sun will not be a concern for me now.”

"So you want my story? well, thats fair I guess. After all. that fake Press pass you so graciously gifted me with for the the Seattle Area Charity auction made my job much easier..Oh, and here's a little gift. I know you love antique porcaline foo dogs and while I was there one must have fallen into my pocket.."Kendall grinned at his contact, Bobby Cartwright, muckraker without peer.
Sipping the Amazon Black organic coffee he began.
"Once upon a time a family of well educated and well to do corporate upper management types started a family. The family consisted of a mom a dad and two twin boys . The family led a happy life in a gate comunity with green yards and sevants and all the luxury that is befitting a well educated and well taken care of loyal company employees. The twin boys were very close,as twins often are ,until thier college years. the oldest twin(by 13 minutes ) was a junior at the prestiegous Seatle U. The younger had dropped out the year before to become an artist and was on his way to becoming quite a star among the artsy crowd. However, things were not to stay so rosey."
" Mommy and Daddy were on a business vacation in Europe when something horrible happened. They both disapeared. As if that wasn't bad enough the corporation that had been so good to the family suddenly wanted nothing to do with them..The two boys were thrown out of the wonderful castle and left to fend for themselves."
" For the first time in thier lives the two fine young men had to survive on thier own. The younger did well at first but soon, without money to spend on his friends, he found himself impoverished and alone. He turned to drugs and BTL chips to deal with the pain and found the rest he so sought two years ago.."
"And what of the Elder boy? Well, that is my story to tell because I am he . I had always had an ear for languages. In college I had intended on becoming an interpreter or a diplomat. I know what your saying.who needs an interpreter when you can just pop a lingua soft in your slot and poof! you are good to go. Let me explain something. There are nuances and unwritten rules to most languages that your computer chip, even as advanced as we are today, cannot pick up on. That is why most corporations still employ Interpreters. A perfect example is a statement made last year by our own Governor Brackhaven. In a meeting with a group of Atzlaner businessmen he made a statement on live trid that is still is haunting him when he complimented the representatives on thier "flat bread" which i unfortunately is also slang for "deflated penis". "
" I digress. Along with my language skills, I found that some of my other talents lent to employment opportunities. In my youth I had found the spy novels of the last century facinating and had emulated the heroes for years, sneaking about and scaring the bejesus out of the servants and family alike. Finding myself in dangerous territory, alone and poor on the streets I honed those skills even more. For a while, I found work with a group of environmental activists and picked up some shooting skills but left them when they began makeing plans that were really not well thought out. I have heard they ended up splattered all over the barrens while trying to buy explosives from the Ancients."
" Since my break from them. I have been mostly supporting my self by getting into places that peoples don't want people getting into. sometimes this is means working with Shadowrunners and sometimes this means resorting to common theivery. A street surgeon friend of mine has been most helpful in installing certain augmentations to give me an edge. some I have stsolen and others I have bartered for. The most important lesson I have learned is that in our line of work is that everyone has an agenda. As a Free agent it is not for me to question my emplyers agenda. it is only important that I perform my part of the operation with in the perameters set forth in the contract. period."
expanded bio:
Babels parents were employed by MCT, the same company who was paying for his education. His folks were extracted by SK and are still working for the dragon, having been told that MCT had imprisoned thier kids and that they had both been killed in an unfortunate gas exposion while in custody. SK mages subtly altered the memories of their new employees and they both are loyal to the dragon and dispise their former empoyer.
Babel will gloss over any discusion of his early year or so on the street. he makes it sound like he took to the streets like a fish to water but that is not the case. The reason he is so cybered is that he got his ass handed to him repetedly and he started augmented to survive. His bravado at only lowering himself to B and E is just that. He is really just an educated thief although he does consider himself a "Professional".
The enemy he has is an Tir Elf that he robbed(hence the necklace)...Ill leave that up to the GM for the details . I am a firm believe that no good negative quality should go unpunished(grin)...
His last endeaveor involved aquiring some antiques from an auction house that was holding an charity auction...although it looks like he pulled it off, he felt that a vacation in Vancouver might be in order till the heat dies down....
Physical description and appearance
[ Spoiler ]
Kendall is a Caucasian male in fairly good shape. His build is average if somewhat on the thin side. He dresses in low profile but well made clothes as he has found that wearing anything that stands out works against his skills at infiltration. For some reason Sec-guards get mean if your sporting a t-shirt that says" I just got laid...by the way, your mom says hi!"
His brown hair is trimmed neatly and he keeps clean shaven. He carries himself in a relaxed and easy going manner and will introduce himself in a way that is open and professional . His cyber eyes are normal and colored a teal green with a small Ziess logo around the lens in the left eye. He has a small Tau Kappa Epsilon tattoo on his right wrist, from his days in college and will talk the ears off any other Teek that he may meet.
At 1.67 m tall and weighing in at 67Kg, He blends in well.
If he has one vanity it would be jewely. He loves the sparkles. He wears a sterling chain from the Tir and several gold and silver rings. when working, he will remove the rings and extra bling but the Elven necklace is always on his neck He considers it his lucky charm.

Red Wolf (The artist who used to be known as the White Tiger), Icarus, and Babel. Thank you for posting your backgrounds and fleshed out characters. I am going to start working on the introductory post for the three of you very soon.
Please keep in mind post number five in this thread. Because your biography has been accepted by the GM does not necessary mean your character will make it through the story. As stated in the first post, a unique aspect of this story is that one of the PCs will be playing the role of Miss Johnson. Meaning she has the power to not hire any of the characters of the story. Consider the meet with Ms. Johnson as a interview of sorts.
Alright. Time to set you guys in motion. Good luck chummers, and remember, never ever ever short change a Cyclops Bouncer.

@Icarus. You see no commlink codes that you recognize in the area. If Vera is broadcasting her AR profile publically, then I believe you do see her as the Spider.
@Babel. Cyrus the Cyclops "EYE's" you with a lot of suspicion while you are sitting at the bar. Just as you get up to head into the bathroom you feel the ground shake and the bar stools begin to wobble as he begins to head your way.
In the bathroom stall you begin to change. The stench of Cyrus is something you can smell. He walks across the closed stalls three times. Back and forth. Back and forth.
BOOM BOOM..BOOM...BOOM.
You breathe a sigh of relief as you realize he is only here to use the bathroom and was waiting impatiently for a urinal to become free. He takes a long and powerful loo, if the walls weren't reinforced your spidey sense tells you the pressure of his number 1 could have destroyed the wall.
You make your way out into the restaurant. Grab a bottle of champagne and head towards the meet.
Babel. I am confused about the way you used edge. It seems you trying to use edge in three ways.
1. Declare the use of edge before the roll (Which you did). Attribute + Skill + Edge dice =14 dice. You re-roll and sixes. You had one six, therefore you only get one re-roll.
2. You can declare the use of edge after you roll a test to add your edge score to the dice roll. So...
First you would roll 9 dice for the attribute plus skill....
then..
Roll five dice for edge. Rule of six applies.
3. You may spend an edge after the roll to re-roll any failures. In this case. You roll 9 dice for attribute + skill and then re-roll any of those that did not succeed.[/u]
You can only select one option. I'd go with number one. Since you rolled 14 dice initially. You then get to re-roll one dice, because of the one six to add it to the score.
@Vera: You see Icarus approach the table and professionally greet Bubbles. After giving you the thumbs up, Bubbles verifies that he is indeed the runner known as Icarus and lets him sit.
Optional-
If you would like you can make a perception tests against his disguise roll when Babel introduces himself (4).
First make a memory test Logic + Willpower (2) -- Figure Babel is a pretty recognizable and charasmatic person, this also includes the restaurant staff that you have been watching.
Then make a perception test to actually see him approach the table. So far you have to beat six (Unless the maximum number of dice you can succeed is equal to your attribute or skill score. I forget.
-Babel does get by Bubbles.

@Sincereagappe lol, just checked the book and your right. Apparently we have been using edge wrong at our table.
so I'll use edge for 5 extra dice and re roll the 6 and for simplicity just say i got a 3 and stay at 6 hit
thanks for the correction. I have signed up to GM at Dragoncon next year and I want to get little glitches like this worked out Its better to learn here than to having a player call me out at the table.

I just want to see if my IC and OOC knowledge and ideas align here.
Would it be safe to assume ICly, based on my knowledge of computer systems that machines in a hospital would be hooked up to a node in the hospital that monitors and controls them? Say...machines like life support machines and ventilators in an ICU? Should I roll some Logic + matrix theory or Security systems on that, or just say that it's pretty obvious?
SincereAgape
Nov 19 2009, 04:55 PM
Obvious: That for this story each machine still operates on its own without a central node. Security would operate on at a central node. But a life support machine would be its own device.
Crash Cart is known for hiring their own staff and prefers real people operating their machinery and taking care of their patients over computers.

@Babel.
The bar is right next to the entrance/exit to the restaurant, while the table you are sitting at is at the end of the restaurant. If you trying to intercept the Porty Elf, Babel will need to sprint there. Running towards the target will make a commotion, especially since Cyrus is heading your way.

Hospital Admittance Policy: Hospital admittance is based off corporate sponsorships. The medical field has always been a big business. In order to be admitted to a particular hospital you must first have the correct contract and insurance to seek treatment at the facility. Thus if you have a Doc Wagon contract you will be admitted to their treatment centers. Corporate employees use the medical facilities their particular company receives services from. This also counts towards susidiaries.
For the SinLess - Street Doctors and Public Hospitals have always been popular. However, the staff, cleanliness, and equipment you will find at a public hospital will have a low quality to them. Since the closing of the Universal Brotherhood Chapter Houses, medical treatment for the Sinless or the proles of society has been virtually non-existent.
Visitors: To any hospital must provide a valid SIN. Security measures are taken seriously at medical facilities.
Tarek Belanger: Current place of residence - Lyon. Terak Belanger, architecht who has co-designed numerous structures for Evo throughout the world. He has worked extensively in Asia. One of his current projects is the development of his own clothing line which is geared towards working professionals of exotic meta-types. The name of the company is called "Prevalence Apparel." I accidentally forgot to buy cameras and sensors for my FlySpy in Character creation, because I thought that a spy drone came with them standard (silly me...), so I updated my character sheet, and will send it to you shortly. I had plenty of cash left over during char creation.

@Trigger and Negral.
At the moment we are filled. But I can place the two of you on a reserve list in case someone drops out of the game for some reason.
@Icarus.
That works for me!

Oh yeah. It will be recording full video and audio. The flyspy has Vision Enhancement 3, Thermographic vision, Audio enhancement 3, and a radio scanner. It should be able to see something in the car, if only just heat signatures.
Icarus will order the flyspy to tail the car, and keep a visual on it for as long as it can. (It only has a speed of 15) Also, he will have the Scanner start picking up any wireless signals coming from the car.
Follow car: FlySpy Pilot (3) + Chaser Program (4) = 7 dice
(7d6.hits(5)=3)Take pictures: FlySpy Sensors (5) + Clearsight Program (4) + Vision Enhancement (3) = 12 dice
(12d6.hits(5)=1) (Figures...)
Scan Wireless: FlySpy Sensors (5) + Clearsight Program (4) + Radio Scanner (3) = 12 Dice
(12d6.hits(5)=3)Get Audio: FlySpy Sensors (5) + Clearsight Program (4) + Audio Enhancement (3) = 12 dice
(12d6.hits(5)=3)aaand finally Icarus will tell the car to come around to whichever entrance of the place is closest, and wait for me.

Awesome, that works. Not that I am hoping someone drops out or anything....

Hey guys,
Planning on posting something this late morning early afternoon.
GM Recommendation:
Babel, Red Wolf, and Icarus, I suggest the three of you work together as much as possible. Try to find a common safehouse to operate out of and stick together as much as possible.
If you want to coordinate these things in the OOC thread, feel free to. It might be a lot easier then doing this IC.

Nov 23 2009, 02:06 PM
PS - I do not have access to everyone's character sheet at the moment.
Since Babel is an out of towner, he will be staying at a nice hotel.
Icarus I believe has a safehouse for everyone to use.
Red Wolf - This escapes me at the moment. I believe you might have something in Chinatown.

Couple things:
I'm trying to keep the group together...Hell I bought a sedan for that express purpose! (And souped the hell out of it, btw...) 4 doors FTW.
Yes, I do have a nice apartment (High lifestyle) for us to be based out of. If we need somewhere more discrete, I do have contacts I can, well, contact, that can help us out.
What I can do next will largely depend on how long my flyspy can track that elf's car, and what I get out of the scanning. (If I get what I am hoping for, this is gonna be fun.

) At this point, I will also start tailing the elf (with Babel getting in the car as well), and relay it's location to Wolf as best as I can.

The tailing of the car is acknowledged.
[ In your next post. Give me a vechicle test : ]
Edit:
[Actually stealth test. Forget what skill at the moment

Vehicle Stealth?
Ummm... Reaction + Shadowing?
Or for the drone? Pilot + Covert Ops program? or Chaser program?
SincereAgape
Nov 23 2009, 06:35 PM
Vehicle stealth. I dont' have my books on me at the moment.

2 things:
1: I thought Infiltration was AGI based. Was I wrong?
2: Stats for my Predator for Babel's use: 5P damage, -1 AP, extended clip (19 rounds in the mag), Underbarrel weight (+1 RC), Silencer. Currently loaded with explosive rounds (+1 DV, so 6P)

Wolf has the combat manouver Iaijutsu withs means he can use quick draw with a melee weapon, can he use it at the end of the charge to do a running quick strike and if so would there be extra +/- to think of on the attack roll?
SincereAgape
Nov 25 2009, 09:02 PM
Hey Remmus,
Sure he can. He has to make a successful Reaction + Weapon Skill (6 in this case) with a threshold of three.
If you succeed on the quickdraw. I'll give you a plus 1 to DV.

Nov 25 2009, 09:12 PM
ok I intend to charge the goblin, does he have any melee weapons? it´s just so I know if the reach 1 of the katana can be aplied when i roll or he wields something with melee reach as well.
edit btw notice Wolf has a specialization in swords thus i should role 8 + attribute not 6 unless you have another opinion GM

Nov 25 2009, 09:24 PM
Hey Remmus. He has a mace. So it negates your reach.
Rolling eight dice is okay with me.

My posts are going to be a bit sparse this weekend, as I am travelling. I still have internet access, but it is limited to when I am not spending time with family.
Have a great Thanksgiving if you are in the USA, and a happy thursday if you're not.
