Loveland.

Whoever named this little patch of vice must have been a prophet. From the moment some politco decided that the big old patch of farmland south of Seattle needed to be acquired by the military and both an Air Force and Army base established upon it the fate of Loveland was sealed. Race riots, a war, and mother nature's own volcanic bitchslap have done nothing to make the clutch of brothels, night clubs, pawnbrokers, check cashes, and strip clubs go away, and there was nothing Johnny Law and the Rent-a-Cops could do about it either. Loveland belongs to the underworld, with the Mafia and the Yakuza both trying to carve out their little piece of the prey-on-soldiers-pay pie. The thing about it is, Loveland is technically part of the Puyallup Barrens, which means that the only syndicate presence you are gonna find in this lovely little corner of the Metroplex is gonna be subtle, or flashy in a desperate attention seeking way.

In Loveland, the gangs rule the streets, but they do so with the blessing of the big boys. That, or they carve a path so bloody no one is going to touch them - except maybe the long arm of the law.

Of course there are the unlucky bastards. With the backlash in Tempo come new problems, like a newly empowered Knight Errant with an agenda of cleaning up the streets, and a whole lot of shuffle in the syndicates. Guess who has the biggest problems of them all? Yup, you do.

Welcome to life in Loveland with no patron-saint of crime on your side, and no leader to show you the light.

-----

Low-Down in Loveland is a game about gang life, in the tradition of Bleeding Edge (though I cannot promise as good a game as LargeMike ran, big shoes to fill there). For the gritty feel, this is going to be 300BP, one skill at 5 or two at 5, and 6 Avail. The gang (tentatively the Loveland Dozen) is a a bottom rung gang, though one with established turf that they've been holding for some time now, and with several sources of income. This is going to be painful at times, and turnover in characters may well happen, but it is also going to be largely sandbox. I provide the tapestry, you weave your thread inside of it.

Four slots are being reserved at this point for some fresh board types, four more stand open.

The recruit/planning phase may take a few weeks, but I will be giving hardline details soon.
Red-ROM
I'm interested, am I still considered a "fresh board type"?
crizh
I'd be interested in one of the open slots. I've got Flashbang here who I never really got to play and quite enjoyed building.

He's only 250 BP but I'm sure I could tweak him to fit the game.
BlackHat
I would be interested, if there is room - though I don't have anything ready-to-go. Couple of questions, when you said "one skill at 5 or two at 5" did you mean "two or fewer skills at 5" or was that supposed to be "one skill at 5 or two at 4" (which would mean everything else at less than 4)?

That was to read one at 5, or two at 4. And yes, everything else would be at less.

As for fresh to the board types, by that I mean people I know off the boards but can't play tabletop with due to scheduling/geography.
Red-ROM
ok, Idea so far:

Micky "Cocktails"

smooth talker with quick hands. Bartender turned con man with some skill at infiltration

I've still got some work to do, but thats the start of it
Red-ROM
hmm, this board has been a ghost town lately
Digital Heroin
I've been waiting on the off-board guys to sign up and post up. Apparently some of them don't check their Facebook inboxes, or Facebook's being a turd.

In the meantime, to think about:

- what did the gang do prior to the shakeup? While you are low rung, your activities could be diverse in a small area. The offline guys already have expressed an interest in running a chop-shop of sorts. There will be some involvement, regardless, with Tempo, even if no one but the now-jailed leader knew about it;
- Give me alternatives to the name, and colors, or a symbol.

So far the process of application is wide open, and until at least a few of the offline guys get online and into the swing of things, this will mainly be a spit balling thread for character concepts.
galvatron42
I would really like to get in on this if there is still a slot open. I am new to the boards and 4th editin and would love to get a feel for the game before I play at Gencon. By the way, I would like to play a troll bruiser or a human sammy.
Digital Heroin
The guys I am bringing to the boards, for the most part, have limited Shadowrun experience, being semi-recent converts, so experience should be no issue.
BlackHat
I had been tossing around some ideas, including a street-racer type (I figured the gang was probably not a go-gang, but would have to deal with them, on occasion). That might work well with the chop-shop idea. I had planned to spend a good deal of starting nuyen on an souped-up ride - but wasn't sure how bottom-rung we needed to be, or how bad this part of the neighborhood would be. IIRC, Seattle 2072 said something about Loveland having a smuggling route go through it (through Route 7), so I figure it can't be so bad that vehicles can't get around.

Another concept I had was a would-be street-doc - who probably isn't that skilled, but is the best guy the gang might have for picking bullets out of our backsides. Better than a random guy with a medkit, though. If violence is going to be a part of life then having a medical specialist seems like a good idea, but I would like for him to come off as someone who learned what he needed to out of necessity than some sort of med-school dropout who's slumming it in the barrens. wink.gif
Chance359
If there's still space, I'm interested in signing on. I'd probably put together some kind of ork muscle.
vanillared
If you are still interested in adding gangers to your recruits, I know a guy. Real wack job goes by the name Marky Poppins. Apparently he thinks he is the reincarnation of an old 20th century witch or something. From everything I have heard he is that kinda crazy that can get shit done though. Let me know if you want to met him, her or whatever.
Propaganda
If there's still a space for this, I'd love to get in on it...been lurking on the boards for a couple of weeks hoping I could find a game to join.

Edit:

Quick question: I know it's meant to be a low availability gang focused game, but will there be any need/place for a spell-slinger? I always loved the SR3 street witch concept, and since I now have a copy of Street Magic I'd like to have a go at making a mage, provided it wont break the game concept.

I was just re-reading the thread so I could double check I'd not missed anything, and the chop-shop caught my eye...I've put the magic aside for now ('cause the magic rules make my head hurt) and I was thinking of a character that was a sort of courier for the gang...skill with hotwiring vehicles, motorbikes, usually makes deliveries of drugs to the military bases sort of thing. Anyone have any advice if I want to go in this direction?

Id suggest hitting the sample character archive over in the community projects pages and look for the smuggler. Built to be better at getting illicit products places then the smuggler in the core book.
Propaganda
I had a look at it, cheers Chance359.

Started working on a ganger/go-ganger/bike courier hybrid, I should have something up by Monday at the latest.

Edit:

Having just discussed this concept with the Dumpshock IRC channel, I have a question: Is the gang connected to/involved with any of the major syndicates?
Digital Heroin
No, the gang is not connected to an any of the major syndicates or gangs. They were until recently, but the shake-up in the underworld following Tempo's rise and fall as a street drug has seen those ties severed.
vanillared
Will you allow characters to have group contacts? Specifically, can we have a gang that we are the member/leader of as a group contact?
Combat Mage
Hey there,

I just registered after lurking around for months just reading. I'd love to take part in an online game and I have the time for frequent posts.

If there is a spot for me I'd be really interested in participating. If possible I'd like to play a street mage.

If mage is a no-go, I would try myself at a troll muscle.

Greetings,
Combat Mage

Combat Mage - Only thing I'd say you might want to consider changing is swapping a spell (Manabolt, maybe?) for Magic Fingers. If nothing else, think of the yuppie mugging opportunities.

I also really reccomend buying a gun. But maybe that's just me.
Aria
I'm interested if there are still spaces going? I've thrown some numbers at an invisible path physad called Scratch which I'll try and post this evening. It'll take some tweaking to the backstory I had in mind originally but that shouldn't be an issue.

EDIT: background thoughts here, comments welcome!

Sounds like there is a lot of interest in this game (more interest, than room) - but that is probably better than having the opposite problem.

Quick point: What year is this set in, so I can get the date of birth, etc. right?

Ok, here is how things stand. Offline I am doing heavy planning for this, and my tabletop game. I've been waiting all patient-like for the guys I invited to the boards, but have seen nothing from them yet, so I'm going to proceed along a slightly different path.

Why only run one gang, when you can run two, eh?

So those of you who have expressed interest and sheets, great, I'll start giving them a more discerning look-over. Those of you who posted concepts up, start thinking sheet. And everyone who has asked about room, there is still room, as there has been no cut made yet, so get cracking on concepts and sheets.

Some more specific information/responses to specific questions will follow shortlyish.

...I need whiskey and pizza first...

I'm still interested. PMed my sheet but will post it here also.

That should hopefully answer questions, or address my immediate concerns. If you aren't mentioned, no need to fear, that just means I either missed a question, or I have no concerns with your concept/build at this time.

As for date, the game is set in 2071, during a transition between Lone Star and Knight Errant.

If I missed your question, kick me... a post, or a PM if you prefer.

PC vs. PC actions? Ouch, better invest in some armour and a spare character for when the lead starts flying smile.gif

Of the two concepts, even with the gang being based around a chop operation, I think the 'doc' might be more suitable. Could be someone with medical school aspirations that are totally unrealistic (sadly, that'd be the case due to being in Loveland) who has been learning any way he can, and practicing on anyone too out of it to protest.

Gotcha, I thought that concept was more interesting, too. I'll get a sheet together, tonight (hopefully) and post it up. Even unoptimized, it shouldn't be too hard to make a mechanically suitable medic for the gang - if not better than a lot of street docs. Hopefully when the gang gets all shot up, or cut up, they'd still rather get stitched together by this guy than some NPC contact. smile.gif

EDIT: Also, if anyone wants any gang-tats, or cosmetic biomods, he's your man.

I don't think I need it for anything, but I'll ask anyway. Is the "restricted gear" quality banned for this game? does it work differently (allowing avilability 12) or does it work as usual?
BlackHat
Are we still planning to be the Loveland Dozen (still in need of colors/symbols/etc) or now that there are two gangs, do we need to come up with another name (and all that other stuff)?
Combat Mage
The name/colors/symbols etc also kinda depend on the style of the gang in my opinion. What goals we have (besides surviving and getting more turf), what ideologies and outlook on life and all this stuff.
Are we aiming to be the biggest player in our area? Are we street people that banded together to survive and build a "save haven" for our members? Or are we psychos who just wanna beat people up and party all the time? Or all of that together? wink.gif

Branmac
Roberto "Bear" Calmante

Mechanics wise, human, magician adept, his magical abilities are counter spelling and possibly a little summoning/banishing. He has enough adept powers to speed him up slightly and make him perceptive. In the long run he would probably evolve towards a investigative/legwork/face type but for now this is all the little ganger boy knows

Bear is a city rat. His mother was a Pilipino/Irish mix who worked the brothels servicing the soldiers from Ft Lewis who wanted a little bit of rough to take the edge off. He never knew his father, and Bear wouldn’t take book on his mother having known him other than in the loosest sense of the word.
When his mother disappeared he was 7, the brothel owner didn’t waste time dropping him off at one of the orphanages Ares ran under contract to the Fort, to make good little drones and soldiers when they grew up. Not that there was a lot of difference. When he was 14, he managed to slip the leash and make a run. He has been on the streets for the last 4 years scratching a living as best he can, the last 2 as part of a small time gang, the Loveland Dozen. He is naturally fast, and is good at spotting trouble as well as opportunity. He knows he has some minor magical talent because he has learned how to make it tougher for a wizworm to cast on him, and he has managed to call up what he guesses is a spirit once or twice, but he doesn’t trust the whole magic thing. In fact, he is sure when his mother disappeared it was as a sacrifice. {He has no proof, it is however a deeply held belief.}
Digital Heroin
Ok guys, welcome to Jimmy and Smush, two of the off board (now on board) folks I've been talking about.

I'm going to give it another week for open concept time, and then close the doors on new posting. That's a one week deadline to voice up if you've been considering joining the game. At, and up until then, I will be talking with people either here or via PM, getting a feel for their concept, and how it fits into the gang, and by Wednesday of next week I hope to have the cut made for who is in, and who is out of the game. Anyone new to the SR-world, or to play-by-post, don't fear, this is not going to be one of those games that kills you with dice... your decisions might get you killed, but mechanics won't.

Also, as for the gang's turf/accommodations... lifestyle will be provided for free, and will include a few businesses (a dive bar, mechanics, maybe a pawn shop) to represent the block the gang lives on. The gang is primarily a turf gang at the point of starting, but if y'all want to change that focus, feel free to try.
BlackHat
Work in progress. Still need a name, and have some points to spend - but I figured i should post what I've worked out so far. Not sure if I want to leave his first-aid at a 5 or not - it seems high for someone taught on the streets - but maybe the rest of the gang gave him a LOT of practice, or maybe he got a hold of a really good tutorsoft. smile.gif Got plenty of points to round him out - so suggestions welcome (if anyone is interested). I'll probably have something more complete by Tuesday - hopefully before the doors close on submissions.

@BlackHat: I really like the van that doubles as mobile clinic. Also he's specialized in healing my magical butt. Yay.
I always like some qualities/flaws in my characters, but that is personal preferance.

@Digital Heroin: I will expand my concept into a complete backstory, put fnishing touches on the mechanics (no lifestyle = more money smile.gif) and repost the character before the deadline.

Yeah, I was going to hinge that on the gang having a good number of awakened PCs, but I suspect that will be the case anyway.

Hmm, this is still accepting new people? I might consider joining, will have to read up and see. Thought it was interesting when I saw it, but wasn't sure about how much time I'd have at that point, my schedule is a bit more set now, which is nice.

You'd also be able to make cred on the side by dealing with any local Awakened types. Get good enough and people will come from a fair distance since there's less of a risk of them hideously mangling your talent.
Panzergeist
Are you still recruiting? I' like to throw my hat into the ring. My character concept i a faceman, very loosely based on Sawyer from lost. He's a black marketeer, con artist and social networking specialist with a tiny bit of combat skills. Still working on a name.

Estaban Ortega grew up amid Aztlan campaigns to destroy his people. Learning to fight and survive in the jungle as far back as he could remember. Shortly after his tenth birthday, his unit was captured. Being so young he was placed into the Aztechnology junior class bloodsports. After being brought to Seattle for a "special" in person visit to one of his fans, Estaban bit off one of the mans fingers and escaped into the barrens.
