Full Version: Wilderness Neighborhood?

How does living in the wilderness work in relation to the Neighborhood lifestyle category?
Also how does it work in relation to the 'Rural home' and 'No neighbors' lifestyle qualities?

Relevant definitions for handy reference.

I'd just say that any inapplicable mods have to be ignored, and any 'unavoidable' mods have to be paid for. No Neighbors, for example. By definition, you're kind of getting that. smile.gif

Well yes. But how many points from 0-7 do I put into neighborhood?

Would 0 be appropriate but mean my section of the woods is filled with critters.
Or would 1 mean I have a more peaceful area.
Or would it be street level with Quiet Neighborhood +1.

Or would it be the neighborhood quality as normal because it applies to what the closest shops are, so a cabin in the woods pays for a neighborhood a few miles away that is in town.

I was thinking about getting a house in the woods because I already need Rural Home +2, and Animal Lover Three +5 in order to keep a large pet.

i do live in a Rural Home with Homegrown Farming and No Neighbors in a Low Neighborhood, because by RAW street and squatter limit my Comforts. however i think without Green Plan i'm not out in the wild.
i just rememberd a nice approach: The Asceticism initiation ordeal says "may include ... living off the land ...adopt a Street lifestyle"

If you're doing a Seattle game, the only wilderness I know of is outside the Plex, so you'd have to cross the border every time you wanted into the city. Not very convenient... Agrarian spots are still in the plex though.

Cerberus Hound____20F_____ 80,000¥_____Luxury/500¥
This Cerberus hound needs to be in either luxury housing or Medium or better rural housing +2 LP. Add to that the Animal Lover level three +5LP and this hound is already costing me a fortune.

You bring up a good point about the plex. I'll need to think about it. I am a little weak on locations in the game world. I just figured there would be some place. What book would I read about this stuff in?

My character concept is to be a free spirit that possesses a Cerberus hound for infiltration and combat, and uses cheap drones for day to day stuff, and also can posses and impersonate abducted people. The hound is a huge investment.

Snohomish is your area. That's where the farms and such are. Go for Middle Necessities + workplace to bump the area size for necessities to Luxury level, and that should basically represent a good size plot of land. No Neighbors would be a good choice as well.

When all else fails, talk with your GM what you want and work out something you both find reasonable.

By the way, I'm not sure how well I remember this, but I think that Spirits can't interact with even AR, so working with Drones could be problematic. Again, talk with your GM. As I remember, spirit, even a possession spirit, doesn't even have a physical voice.. The sound just sort of comes our from inside them. It's still purely magical, and therefore can not be perceived by non-living senses.

Being a ghost is kind of.. complicated.

Possessing a drone with a speaker allows the spirit to talk through the speaker.

Well outside the metroplex for true wilderness, just hopping the border will give you a mix of truly rural areas and suburbs. Seattle has a very small Urban core and a lot of lower density sprawl. You can find undeveloped areas all over, but they are often bookended by stripmalls and industrial parks. The Kent Valley is an odd mix of Industry, Agricultural Land, Retail, and Residential (and after the Ghost Dance mix a little lahar in as you go south towards Puyallup) and up north towards Snohomish you have a similar thing only with more Farmland. The Skyraker zone is clustered around Down Town Seattle, Down Town Bellvue with a handful in Downtown Tacoma and Downtown Everett, out side of that buildings in excess of 5 stories are rare, but 2-3 are the norm.

If you really live in the wild then you have no neighbors. The level of Neighborhood will depend on the level of natural hazards of the area. If you live in a place with a lot of predators that may kill you day or night, then you have a low neighborhood. I don't have the book in front of me right now, but I think that a wild area should be a middle neighborhood at most.
