I will be hosting 2 SRM events on November 13th. I want to run the SAME adventure so that i can get the most players covered. What adventure would you like to see?

If you need another SRM online GM, I can volunteer! If the demand is large enough, I could run a game two. And for the scenario, since I think SRM00-05 will be out for this date, I think the best would be to start the campaign by running SRM01-01 worldwide. I could do my games for my teams too that weekend.

Well I said a fork in fates path but then again you are still doing the game day the 3rd? weekend in november?

I voted for Forced Recon, but I'd also like to play Mission Briefing, Strings Attached, and Fork in Fate's Path. I played Double Crossed, Demolition Run, and Dark and Stormy Night at Dragon*Con. Though I wouldn't mind playing Dark and Stormy Night again...we had some real idiots in our group that time, which blew the run for the rest of us.

Honestly, as the only person in my area whose considering running SRM (that I am aware of), I couldn't truly select an individual scenario. I guess what I would need in order to participate as a player (and not as a GM) would involve an online game.

Well, I can't play Mission Briefing or Demolition Run. I've read them (And even run Mission Briefing) so those are out. But any of the other ones would work great.

you bastards would be picking one of the hardest to run online...
Right now, I'm planning on using AIM, mostly because it is multiplatform and ubiquitous and everyone pretty much knows how to use it. It also has the dicebot. I'll be delivering player handouts as password protected files which will be delivered to the players beforehand - the password will be given out at the appropriate times. The day or two before the event, i'll get everyone together to do a "comms check" and make sure everyone has the files, etc so that we don't have to waste time on game day getting set up.
I'd like to run FORCEd RECON - i think it is the easiest one to work out for an online game...but i'll wait and see how the voting goes.
If anyone out there has a lot of experience GMing online games that wants to give me any other tips/suggestions, feel free to contact me.
Also, any other GMs (such as DF) that want to join me on the 13th for this, please contact me also. I'm also going to be looking for some "assistant GMs" that can help with the adventure for when the party splits up, for example when the mage goes astral or the decker goes into the matrix...

Rich, you might want to overlay a grid (with rows & columns labeled) on top of any maps you have in case crap hits the fan and there is a full-blown gun fight. If there is a fight, you can use the coordinates to convey the location of individuals involved (kinda like battleship).
What we've done in the past is have the GM send a master spreadsheet to everyone at the beginning of the round and let individual players update their maps as the game progress. The GM re-sends the master copy every couple rounds so everyone is in sync. The spreadsheet can be as simple as a blank sheet or as fancy as having the map as background with movable icons for individuals.
Also, you might want to consider beforehand admin stuff such as how to distribute SRM record sheets to players, mailing/postage, fees, etc.
Those are the things that came to my mind right now. Look forward to playing some online SRM. =)

OpenRPG is a good forum to play on...it has a dicebot, can send nodes back and forth, and it has a map.

I know D20 games, which operate like skirmish miniature battles, could benefit from this sort of grid system when run online. But ShadowRun is not D & D. I really think Shadowrun bogs down when it is run in that format.
I agree an overall map is useful if a significant combat occurs, but chess-like moves of ::Trogilator runs from A3 to D4:: isn't necessary, and detracts from the drama and mood of the game.
I realize some people have a hard time visualizing what is going on based on descriptions on AIM, but perhaps those people shouldn't be playing games online.

I know the grid system works best for d20 games where it's becoming more and more like glorified miniature battles. But a grid is still a good reference system, especially in a gun-fight where strategic positioning and cover is important.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Instead of saying "I duck behind the 5th barrel from the 3rd column 10~20 meter away from the back door", you can just say "I duck behind the barrel in D20"
Or, more often than not in online games without a map, this is what happens:
GM: "player 1, it's your turn"
Player1: "Where is everyone on the map?"
GM: "The sam is ducking behind the 5th barrel from the 3rd column 10~20 meter away fromt he back door, the adept is in the rafters directly above the crates in the middle of the room closest to the broken window..." (five minutes later) "... near the door."
Player1: "Okay, I shoot the sam."
GM: "player 2, it's your turn"
Player2: "Errr.... where is everyone on the map again?"
GM: (thinks to himself: @$%#$! Here we go again)
It's not that people cannot visualize what is going on based on descriptions. It's that many people cannot remember/keep track the location of 10+ characters (runners + opponents) in memory without visual aid.
Bottom line is, a map with a grid can reduce a GM's repetitive descriptions during a fight when the last thing you need is to get bogged down by the nutty gritty details.

Hi all. Personal obligations had forced Rich to cancel the game. Instead, I will run the online sessions. I mostly run SRM online, so I'm getting used to this kind of game. This should run smoothly!
To all the players who sent an e-mail to him, don't panic, I have all your info and I'll contact you so that we might set up a date. I'm thinking about running both Mission Briefing and A fork in Fate's Path to help most players get up to date with the game.
I will post further informations here as soon as I can set up things, so for those who want to do one of these missions, prepare you characters!

i hope you're not implying *I* have incompetence with computers!!!
i remember here at work when one of the new snot nosed programmers was giving me crap (i'm the network admin / IT manager) and i slapped him around and told him that i'd learned how to program computers before he could learn to read.
he then asked "what year did you start programming a computer?"
i replied "well, that would be about 1978, when I was in Junior High and they started a computer club when we got our first computer systems into the school - DECWriters - paper only...we programmed in line oriented BASIC...then my father bought me one of the first Apple II+ computers in '79"
his response: "read? i hadn't even been BORN yet..."
that's when i realized i was "old"...

I learned to program in 1984. Got out of it in 1996. Now I own a computer/networking consulting firm and have lackeys to do the real work. The joke was on me.

Luck you all. Here in SA we have black enpowerment. So you have to hire a black who has the qualification. But lacks hands on. So here IT Andministrator/Tech Manager has to get hand dirty daily due to lack of incompitance in the staff.

I thought a lot about it and I think we should play the november 13 session another day. I'm writing SRM01-03 and my deadline is this Sunday, so I must focus on that since my scenario will be presented at Gencon SoCal december 2, and there's still work to do until it's completed. I wonder if it would fit people best to do the online game at another date.

Bit - not to surprising. Only 19 votes total. Only 5 selected Fork... For some people the date/time probably didnt work. For others - me included - didnt have enough time to create a character and schedule the availability to play. I need like a month notice to schedule something like that.

Oops, I didn't notice the original run date at the top of the thread was to run this game today. So I'm actually glad Dark Father isn't running A Fate in Fork's Path today. I'm interested in playing the rescheduled game, Saturday December 11th or 18th would work for me if we're sticking with Saturdays.
What's your email address Dark Father, so I can send over my character? Or should I just forward it through Rich? Your profile doesn't list an email address either.
