Hoi Chummers Casazil here I just got a file from a good friend of mine goes by the handle Ganavio asked if I’d pass this on to the boards for him so here it is.

Life in Denver

Ok it’s been sometime since I last sent something down the line but then again I’ve been real busy lately. I know a lot of you know my good friend Casazil so I asked him to post this as I figured it might get a bit more attention that way.

Anyway as I said been pretty busy the year or so out here in Denver now I know a lot of you think that there isn’t much to do here that thing have gone cold now that Ghostwalker has secured his hold on the city you couldn’t be any more wrong.

First off Ghostwalker is way to busy to get involved with the street level wheeling and dealing going on and secondly if you think the many factions that make a living in Denver are just gonna roll over and take it your delusional.

Now you’re thinking who are these factions and what have they been up to lately to warrant notice? Ok fine lets start at the top and work our way down just remember you didn’t hear this from me.

First we have Mafiosi or more commonly called Mafia here in Denver we have two major families.

First up is the Chavez family they have a few deals working right now but one deal is of concern for some of the other players in Denver. That deal is between the Chavez family and Koshari (I’ll get to them later) the deal is unknown to everyone but them and has something to do with some kind of treaty involving Lakeside Amusement Park that has kept them as allies for over 10 years. I did my part to help keep that contract in place. This family also has ties to one of the big gangs in the area the Godz but more on them later. I’m on an ok standing with this family.

Second up we have the Casquilho family these guys are a lot more active in my opinion but then I might be a bit biased as I do have a VERY good relationship with them at the moment. Like all the organizations out here they have their hands in everywhere I personally help them keep a good man out of trouble a while back with his corp. come to think of it maybe I should call mister B one day here see if he has any new toys he needs testing. There was also this thing with a hacker and what I’m told was a free sprite but I had to do it as it was a request by the Don. There was this smuggler who made an error in judgment about his cargo but I got it back and heck even convinced the Don not to kill him. These guys are the ones that hired me bring a panda and a wolf seems the panda was intelligent the wolf its companion go figure something to do with bioware.

Next up we have the Yakuza I try to steer clear of them if possible I hear they don’t like me at the moment guess maybe I should play ball a little more often oh well. Had a small run in when I did that contract thing for the Mafia and Koshari but it was handled with a lot of deception and chaos. Another time I had a run involving the Yakuza’s casino not a bad run mind you but not a good one either if not for a very competent team it would have gone sour fast. One thing though don’t win too much money say 1 to 3 grand is ok maybe as much as 4 but any more and you will attract attention they after all trying to make money not pay it out. Then there is that thing with the panda and wolf but that only puts me a little outta sorts with them and really is my only draw back at the moment I do believe.

Now we come to the Triad. You could say it’s a love hate relationship for me with these guys they love to hate me. The Triad owns a club called klub karma not an altogether big place but big enough and lots of security so be careful if you go in. There was the thing with this Avtoritey lieutenant that got me deeper in trouble with them oh joy for me. Of course that whole panda and wolf thing they had to be involved with as well I figured frag it as I was already in trouble with them. Oh and be real careful if your even near their temple especially during one of their ceremonies you cause any trouble at the temple your automatically on their bad side found this out while trying to take on that hacker and sprite. And that’s if no one gets killed you kill someone at the temple well lets just say been nice knowing ya chummer.

Now we move on to the Koshari these guys as I have said are in with the Mafia and from what I’ve seen it’s working out well for them. Seeing they are in with the mafia and I am golden with one of the families my relationship is good with them. I’ve done very little to aid them but it worked for me there was that contract thing I mentioned earlier. Then there was the go get the packages run at that ski lodge. But hey that was fun got to ski meet some ladies heck even helped some loser corp. guy make it look like he was a bad boy. Hey if you go be sure to scan your room for bugs (listening kind not spirit kind) found out if you find them you can get paid 10 ¥ per at the front desk.

Next up the Vory just like the Mafia there are two groups of them working in Denver as well.

The first group is the Kirillov Vory. Right now these guys don’t give a frag about me although that could change easily enough it’s been a rough road with them. There was that thing with the smuggler they were not to happy with me about but I really didn’t like the guy they sent to negotiate. Seems I helped them when I helped this street doc named Tico although I didn’t know it at the time. I did do a little something for them with the Fronts gang which allowed them to expand their territory hopefully that helped me out. Although things would have been better I guess if I hadn’t helped the boss’s daughter get out of town with one of the gang members of the Three Kings gang oh well something to work on in the future. Now what I’m about to say next may offend some but hey it’s the shadows chummer shoot or be shot but I do keep records just in case I ever need them to get outta jail free. The next job involved me making some poor slob who crossed his own face early retirement. It was a nice little run and it put me in the good with the Kirillov. I can’t say much more gotta keep it quite and all don’t you know. Lastly they too were involved with that whole panda and wolf thing jeez now that I think about who wasn’t.

The second is called the Fomin Vory. I’m good with this group matter of fact things are above average with them but I do need to work on them some more. One thing both Vory did have in common was that street doc I mentioned earlier. Also that deal with that Avtoritey lieutenant that got me into trouble with the Triad was something that helped me with these guys. Although I think now that I know I would do things a bit different oh well hind sight is 20/20 they say.

The Godz ok so here we are down to the first of the two bigger gangs in Denver my interactions with them have been all good so far. Problem is with a gang your good deed for the leader can be forgotten if there is a change in leadership. Now you ask how things can change so fast one it’s the shadows chummer get used to it. Second not all members of a gang know you’re in with them someone sees a chance to advance they do then you have to go and explain things all over again. I once had to do a little singing to get in with this gang but it was worth it heck I had fun. Lastly there was the time I helped them while they were fighting over some turf in the PCC I do believe.

That brings us to the Fronts the second gang of note in Denver which I also am on the up side of right now. My time with this gang has so far been either accidental or very minor that I have little info on them at this point and time. It seems in my hurry to deliver that contract I talked about earlier that my not killing any of these guys when they attacked actually got me in with them or so they say. These guys also seem to think my singing was cool go figure. I know they are trying to grow their territory and the Vory are trying to shrink it so there is definitely some work to do there you just have to find it.

Now your not always gonna work for someone tied to these factions you may work for someone going against one or more of them weather they know it or not. If you find you’re into something that might involve one or more of these factions just tread lightly most times you can do the job and get away with it. However there are times when no matter what you do you’re gonna piss someone off the first and foremost way to stay kosher with any of them is of course not to use deadly force. You may step on toes but killing an asset makes you a target rather than a nuisance and targets tend to live shorter lives.

As for things that have no ties to any factions those exist as well but then again the one that sticks out the most to me was just really sick it involved a blood mage man nasty work let me tell you. Should’ve taken the fragger out but he had killed the people we were sent in to find so we turned him over to the person who hired us no idea what happened to him after that hope he got what he deserved.

Now some of the things you can do may be bad but not everything there are a few runs that you get to feel good about your self when done. Like I said earlier I helped a girl get out of Denver with her boyfriend. I stopped a blood mage from continuing his work. I helped keep the peace between factions. There are several things that make doing what I do a good thing and they far out reach any of the bad things I have ever done. Heck I even made friends with an intelligent panda (yeah she was annoying but she grew on me) although she only has about an 8th grade education but I still liked the critter.

Well there it is chummers a little low down of life in the Denver shadows as you can tell work is plentiful here if you can walk between the lines of the factions and not get killed. So if you’re looking for work come out to Denver and take a shot and hey if you can find it I hang out at the 5x5 bar stop by if I’m there I’ll buy ya beer if not just ask Matty when he thinks I’ll be around next. By the way if you do go to the 5x5 here are the rules:

Don’t talk work this is a smugglers haven and they come here to get away from work not find it.
Leave your weapons at home or drop them in the box at the door.
Hard currency and certified cred only.
No hidden comms or ghosting allowed

If you break these rules the drinks are on you as well as if the offence involves a weapon or a pan rule violation you’ll need to correct the issue ASAP or get tossed out hard.

Anyway I gotta go there is a new job to do and I need to get paid so till another time later chummers!

Whew! Cas, you a brave man. Dumping a whole lot of information there, some of it pretty hot stuff.

Bottom line though... A good professional works for who's hiring, and does the job. A true professional organization recognizes this, and rewards good service with the thing every piece of shadow business boils down to. Nuyen.

Not my damn fault the Yaks, Triad and Vory rarely go hiring. Perhaps that will change in the future...
