Full Version: Dancing Within the Void - Recruitment
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Welcome to the Shadows
Fenris
Disclaimer: Those members of Reflections of a Full Moon and Reflections of a New Moon that choose to submit either existing characters or new characters here will receive priority. However, that being said, please feel free to apply since I'm looking to fill 8 spots.

As I mentioned in the two previous threads, I think my format failed because I lost my "motivator" (and I was taking 34 units in University). With both of those problems corrected, I'm ready to move forward again. So, the format for this game will be as follows:

I'll be running the game with an over-arcing story line in mind. This means I expect it to cover several runs, not just one. I'm expecting, based on the normal pacing of the boards, that it will go on for a couple of years. From previous experience on the boards, I'm also sure I'll lose some people. Critical mass in my mind is 5 players + my motivator (who I'm positive isn't going anywhere), so when I lose 2 or more players, I'll put out a call for new ones.

Every player will be expected to post at least three times a week, preferably at least once a day. Action will move forward, to some degree, every week. I'll set a target goal for where we should be by the end of the week, and if we're not there, I'll take it upon myself to bump forward the action to the stated goal, playing PC characters as necessary. It won't be as robust as in my previous games, but I'm not trying to finish it before school starts either wink.gif If you fail to post the minimum amount for at least three consecutive weeks, I'll find someone to replace you in the game. Yes, real life stuff comes up, and you're welcome to talk to me about it if something does come up. I'm a reasonable guy.

The premise of the game is that runners have heard through reliable contacts that Watanabe Security Consulting is offering long term, stable work to "freelance" operators that can be stable and reliable. WSC has a good reputation among higher B and A rated corporations as a sort of testing grounds. Basically, corporations hire WSC to make mock "runs" against their corporation to test security, find weaknesses, etc. After the "run", a full break down of the action is given, including information about how weaknesses were found, how they got in, etc. These runs are usually done using non-lethal weapons and ammunition. (If your character is unable to or uncomfortable with using non-lethal methods or weapons, this is not the run for that character.)

So, those of you brave enough to try this I'm taking submissions from now until the 29th, at which point I'll choose the final group of 8 players.

Here's the mechanical guidelines:

450 build points. Otherwise standard rules on caps (230 on physical stats) and allowances, including availability. If there's something you really think your character should have, send me a PM, but be warned, it will require some pretty significant back story, both in quantity and quality.

Those of you bringing characters from the other two threads are welcome to carry over directly with earned karma and gear. Those of you who were players in the other threads but are bringing in new characters, you'll be allowed half of the earned karma before I officially ended the games for your new character.

Free contact points = 2 x your base, natural Charisma, obviously you can purchase more if desired.

I'm very strict about allergies, so if you're going to take one, it needs to be significant.

I've worked out a conversion system for merits and flaws from SR3 to SR4, so if there's something you want from SR3, let me know.

Karaden
Sounds very interesting, I'd like to join and will get to work on a character right away.... Actually make that sometime when I wake up in the morning.
Toras
I would also seek to throw my hat in. I suspect that I will be managing a Street Sam or Technomancer, something other than the two adepts I currently have running.
Redjack
I think I'll bring Atreus, physical adept from the Full Moon campaign. I will be advancing his history a little since the past run and writing Ammon out as well as motivation to connect with Watanabe.
Fenris
Glad to see you back Redjack wink.gif
Tarantula
I'd like to throw my hat into the ring. If you have the space.
Method
I'm in with Vertigo. I might rework her qualities though if thats cool? I think one of her flaws could be too great a liability...
DireRadiant
Sweetness!
Fenris
Taratula - Please, toss your hat in with the others.

Method and DireRadiant - Glad to see you guys coming back in.

Redjack
So what's the chance of kicking an IC thread up early just to start bringing existing characters back to life? Atreus knows Sweetness, but not Vertigo.
Method
Redjack: Atreus is Ammon's brother right? Maybe we could work that angle if Fenris wants us to be an established team.
Dashifen
Give me a holler if you need another player smile.gif
Meriss
Dervish is ready to continue at any time biggrin.gif
Fenris
Sounds like the group is fast coming together ;D
Redjack
@Method - Yes, Ammon and Atreus are twins.

@Fenris - Looks like it. 3 returnees and 2 new fodder candidates.
Dashifen
@All,
For the possible new candidates, can the returnees give a brief intro to their character? If I join up, it'd be cool to know who's who.
Fenris
I can throw up an IC thread if you'd like, I'll need to do something with WSC. Lemme check with Buddha, and I'll let you know later today or tomorrow.
DireRadiant
Sweetness - Face

Gregor is an orc aging well into his early thirties. He wears his graying hair
with distinction, though it is in a short military style. His trim and well
cared for mustachio is a concession to vanity. He dresses conservatively but
well, typically with tailored suits in conservative style. In a bid to capture
past style and fashion he carries a stylish leather wrapped steel cane with an
ornately carved handle in the form of a dragon encircling a cross as it
strangles itself with it's own tail. Or perhaps it is simply eating it's own
tail, it's hard to tell without close inspection.

What Everyone Knows
Gregor is a very nice polite entertaining tusker gentlemen who
likes to help people. He assists a lot of church functions and
is comfortable in all levels of society.

What some know
Sweetness acts as a special agent/bag man/cutout for a slew of
magical organizations.

What very few know
If Sweetness shows up something bad is going to happen, to
someone or something. Inevitably. And Sweetness if likely to
be the hand doing it.

QUOTE (Fenris)
Every player will be expected to post at least three times a week, preferably at least once a day. Action will move forward, to some degree, every week.

Do you include weekends herein or is most of the action expected to take place from Monday until Friday? I'm hopeless about going online over the weekend but can make an effort as necessary.
Redjack
Not sure what WSC is, but I'm all for an IC thread.

BTW: Which character is Budha bringing back?

As to posting, Monday's are bad days for me. Others are reasonable... Going on how pbp does, I'll be excited to see a consistent 3/week. wink.gif

Atreus - Infiltrator
Atreus is an elven male just over 2 meters tall with dreamy brown hair. For an elf, he is solid built with clearly defined muscles. His clothes are generally all black and his armored coat is full length. He rides a newer model, imported street bike and is generally soft spoken.

What everyone knows
At first glance, very little separates Atreus from any one of a hundred other elven go gangers around the city... except that he has no weapons, no tattoos and no gang colors.

What some know
Atreus has a twin brother who is a spell slinger, though the two usually travel in different circles. Atreus has a solid reputation as an infiltrator, getting in and out undetected. He practices Parkour off the beaten path and at night. The last troll ganger who tried to evict Atreus from the gang territory has pins in four bones and is blind in his left eye.

What a few know
Atreus and his brother have had a falling out. Atreus tends to avoid conflict and only lashes out if cornered, either literally or figuratively. When he does though, he winds up and lets loose like the Tasmanian Devil..
Method
Vertigo is also in infiltration. She is an street-smart young hispanic girl who dresses mostly in black and has a penchant for silver jewelry.

What everybody knows: Vertigo used to be do a lot of B&E. She worked as a cat burglar stealing expensive target items for wealthy patrons. She has only recently "graduated" to shadowrunning.

What some know: Vertigo is an illusion adept who uses a mixture of spells, adept powers and technology to get the job done.

What few know: Vertigo has an aversion to open combat (which was formally manifest as a combat paralysis flaw, but I'm thinking of reworking that so she can better keep up with a combat effective team). She also has a cleanliness geas that requires her to bath daily (communion with the illusionary energies of the water element... or some such).

Fenris
Alright, so I've only got 8 potential so far, so no problems with numbers, although anything could happen in the next week wink.gif

I'm going to go ahead and toss up an IC / OCC thread so you guys can start to interact a little bit. I talked to the player running the character that's forming this group, and he said that he would probably look to a fixer to present a team, not recruit individuals. So, enter Tank, a troll fixer working on the outskirts of Seattle, still looking for that big score to kick him into prime time.

OOC: Dancing within the Void

IC: Dancing within the Void
Fenris
And sorry, WSC is Watanabe Security Consulting ;D
Dashifen
should new PCs be sent anywhere or posted here in spoiler tags?
Fenris
Info, similar to the blurbs about the character in general, should be posted here.

The actual character sheets should be emailed to me at qaumthoughts at gmail dot com. They MUST BE in either .doc or .txt format, and yes, I have Office 2007.
BishopMcQ
I'm throwing my hat in with Finn. Vat job sniper, good with pistols, great with a sniper rifle.

What everybody knows: Finn likes to put holes in people. Premier professional, he never betrays the intial fixer and follows his contract to the letter. His loyalty is bought and paid for but never put to question.

What some know: Finn was part of a long-standing team, that had operated in Seattle for a few years before the Comet. Following the Crash, he and his team retired. Recent events brought him out of retirement and he hasn't settled back down yet.

What few know: In the wake of Halley's Comet, the MO for Finn and his team changed. They started targeting very specific endeavours, helping out a few people who couldn't pay the usual rates.

Laughing Man - Combat Specialist/Computer Expert

Laughing Man is a human with fairly extensive modifications. Some technomancers were better, but they were far more fragile. He is a fair hand with a submachine gun, because when things have gone pear shaped enough that he needs to fight, he needed a lot of bullets.

What most know?
Laughing Man emerged as a cutting edge tech expert, who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty.

What some know?
He doesn't seem to have much in the way of history, but in the last six months he has made a name for himself as dealing some of the most hazardous runs most have seen.

What few know?
His history isn't the only thing he is lacking. His memory begins six months ago, in an upscale hotel room. He was sitting on a coach, surrounded by bodies. A new SIN card tucked into a copy of Catcher in the Rye. He took his name from the passage to be selected.
DireRadiant
Laughing Man? Seriously? I don't think I could handle that Handle.
Redjack
I must attempt to kill anyone who uses the handle Laughing Man to determine if it is the REAL Laughing Man... (No offense. wink.gif )
Karaden
Sure, everyone thinks their the Laughing Man, massive stand alone complex.

But the only way to prove your the real one is to have someone without any sort of cyberware look at you, then describe you to a police sketch artist, and somehow come up with the Laughing Man symbol and think it is compleatly right.

P.S.

I really need to get a move on finishing up my character, though he isn't turning out quite how I want, ah well.
Toras
I just liked the poetry of it all. But if anyone has a suggestion for another book that would work with another passage, without the sort of Stand Alone Complex baggage. Its supposed to be a part of the mystery, a clue to his origin.
Karaden
Acid Burn, Crash System or System Crash don't know which... Only two I can remember off hand, but I know there are others, some much more famous then that, but I honestly can't remember off hand.

But honestly Laughing Man is just a bit too... I don't know, well known maybe? It would be like having a character named Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee or something. Sure, someone could have that name, but it would just be odd.

Maybe you could use Gota or Ishkawa, they where both hacker types, well, Ishkawa was at least, he always seemed to be in the hacking room with Bulma.

Hmm, a bit more out there, but Wrench from Anti-Hero for hire (webcomic), also from Matrix now that I think about it.

*edit*
You know what is even funnier? There is a good chance that someone who is into retro anime and such would have actually -seen- GitS:SAC, which would just shoot everything to heck with that plan.
Meriss
Oh boy that was quick. Don't worry I'll live. biggrin.gif

Dervish

Dervish is the stealth guy. The in and out expert, he grew up in Seattle and has an intimate knowledge of buildings and structures. You want something done quietly he will do it. You want to send a message you send in Dervish.

Fen, revised char sheet ASAP.
Toras
If we are going to go classic, let us go Silicon Cowboy classic.

McCoy Pauley - (Circa Neuromancer)

It has a similar bit of significance.

The character sheet will be emailed shortly.
Method
Hello all.

I am in a static zone (aka my parents only have dial up) until the 1st or so. I will try to post Vertigo's entrance to the initial meet tomorrow, but if not know that I am lurking and keeping up to date on the threads as best as I can.

Happy Holidays,
Method
Fenris
Okay, so, IC and OOC threads are up, this thread is officially defunct. Thanks to everyone, looking forward to the game running long and hard ;D
