Full Version: Aspected Wujen and Shapeshifter

I searched the Forums and can't find a reference for this. Got an Albino Fox Shapeshifter Wujen in the works. Was noticing back when considering if he should go Aspected or not that there are 5 elements listed.

Fire, Water, Earth, Metal and Wood.

and 5 Elementals

Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Wood.

Am I correct in that the Metal should be an Errata to Air? Also, is there 'opposing' elements in Wujen (thus allowing a possible specialist Full Mage in one of the Elements)?

Lastly, this would be the first time we've had a Shapeshifter in the team, and he's amiming for a "quadraplegic" without the flaw (Ie: 1's in all his human physical stats), but a normal Fox (3's as a fox). But, Stealth, Athletics and other common 'animal' skills are all based on the Human stats? Seems a bit off. Any idea why it's done like that? Probably won't matter much in this character (going for the Astral Guardian type character with 8's in all his mental stats), so he'll probably just 'default' to his attribute for those skills... is that the rationalization? That animals don't "learn" they "default" for the more primal type skills?

Wujen has indeed five elements, air not being one of them. Now, wujen cannot summon elementals, only elemental spirits (which are pretty rare) and spirits of man (OR ancestors : youre choice).

Now, you're right that it's strange that Metal aspected wujen are linked with the spirits of wind... Go with it or rule that it's spirit of man or create spirits of metal.

I think there was a kind of "circular" opposition, but I can't remember how it was.

For py shapeshifters I ruled that they wre defaulting to their attributes without maluses for action natural to their form. After all they are allready using Re for attack and a fox shouldn't be unable to sneak.

Just be sure you keep in mind the limitations of Spirits of elements.

You have to be within a certain distance of the raw element in enough concentratoin. Aka a match won't let you summon a Fire spirit, but a bonfire, a bus full of burning children or a convent going up in flames should. Wind needs like top of a sky scraper, or mountain top, where wind is moving quickly, just being under open sky isn't enough unless it's a windstorm. and other stuff like that

Matchstick I agree with, but Wind? Definitely off there boss. Any 'outside' would be fine for summoning a wind spirit. Requiring such limitations would make the elementals useless since you'd never be in a place to summon them. Hell, a torch level flame is enough to summon a Fire Elemental.

Torch level flames aren't enough, well maybe if you plan on summoning a force 1. But it says it in the book windswept mountains, or anyplace with fast moving wind on its own. I don't know the page but it does say something like that. And yes that's the point they have limitations, they also can't venture beyond thier domain which isn't far. Wujen spirits have usefull powers but are limited in range domain and where you can summon them. It's a tradeoff. If you don't like it (I know I wouldn't) Get invoking for greatforms.

I'm positive the different elements, alignments and opposing elements is covered in the FAQ on the official site.

I'm playing a Wujen now (when I play) so I've got reasonably familiar with it.

Wind has to be 'strong natural currents' iirc, so outside won't necessarily do it, btw. On top of a building, in downtown with all those skyscrapers making odd eddies, yes, just outside, no. At least, not in our game.

The rest are really hard to find occasions to use them. But a Wujen can also summon spirits of man if they exclude one of the elemental spirits, so I've dropped water (illusion, as ever) and taken that, in exchange for a Water Spirit Bane flaw and a phobia of open water. Which makes me far more useful to the team, though still quite limited. I use spells far more than spirits, with the exception of the ubiquitos watcher.

Shapeshifters I don't have a lot of experience with, so I'll stay out of it!
