Moved this to 'Welcome to the Shadows'.
You should have much better luck finding a pbp game in this forum.
For a pbim game, you might also create a topic in the
GM/Player Registry

Maybe would could get someone to GM a game for all the ex/future/current military men and women we've got? I'd love it if we could.

Ooo! Tempting! We'll see. Haven't had much experience with pbp

Me either, but I'm no GM. Not enough expierience playing, plus I'm a crappy GM, as proved by DnD countless times. Once again, if anyone wants to GM this, you've got at least 1 garunteed player who'll actually post!

What kind of game would you all be interested in playing?

I'm not in the military, but I've been looking to join a game lately. I don't mean to threadjack, but if you needed someone else then I would love to join. I've loved SR for years, but I've never been able to find a solid game that I wasn't forced to GM (which I'm horrible at, too). So, um, yeah. If there's going to be something going on, I'd love to be part of it
I'd be able to post often, too, as I often need breaks from my schoolwork.

Hell, I'd be interested in anything from street level to being experienced mercs or runners. And congrats on your first post Goldirocks. So we got at least three people as commited players, or so it seems. And DocTaotsu does this mean you're interested in GMing for us sorry lot?

im pretty new to both these boards and Shadowrun (im currently playing with a group irl for the first time, weve met like 5 times-ish), but if thats not a problem id be interested in joining what seems like a forming group here.
i also have a character already created, but could easily make a new one if need be.
(and i feel really noobish asking this, but im guessing pbp and pbim mean play by post and play by instant message, respectively?)

I could be conned into GMing provided we came up with an interesting premise. I'm pretty uh... open ended as far as story goes, I typically don't mind having players dig their own holes...
Er...

I'd be up for playing Shadowrun again. PBEM for preference.

I'd say play by post, and a nice low sandbox style game. And please people, if you come asking for a game, why just let the thought die there?

Aug 24 2008, 07:47 PM
The first thing you guys have going against you is a low post rate. pbp games take a long time to complete. My experience is a consistent post rate of 1+/week. Is this something you are willing to commit to? What specific flavor of game? Street-level? Established runners? Seattle? Hong-Kong? L.A.?
Goldirocks
Aug 24 2008, 08:03 PM
I honestly lurk a lot, and this seems to be the only way I could actually get a game in. So the posting/commitment issue isn't a problem for me. Personally, I'd like to play something in Seattle, though anything would make me happy

Aug 24 2008, 08:10 PM
i would easily be able to commit to 1+ a week. I've been checking on this thread, just havent posted because i was waiting for some feedback.
As for the actual setting of the game, i have no real personal preference in regards to location, and i guess if given the option I'd prefer to start as being new to running. But really, I'm up for about anything, so it's whatever you guys want to do.

Seattle.. Hmmm... and what role are you looking to play?

I'd love to play a hacker, since I just got Unwired
Still brushing up on the rules since it's been a while since I've been able to play.

Lurking, but I'm restricted to 3e... either level is fine by me, but I hold a preference to merc-based games. Note that I'm not a service-member myself.
Redjack

Not many 3e games going in the forums. Several of the other members discuss playing sr3, but I think those are table-top games.

I've played in some PbP's, but I've had crap luck with them... the GMs seem to get distracted by RL or just lose interest and it fades away. I'm willing to play in a game if somebody's willing to run it and stick with it.
If we do a game, I'd love to play the technomancer... failing that, I'd love to do some sort of magician. I always have fun with those.

Aug 26 2008, 02:23 AM
Yeah, that's what I was hoping for, but it seems we've been threadjacked since my last check on this, eh fistandantilus4.0?
And as for a role, I'd take combat adept. And I can commit to anything below once a day. I'm usually on once ever 2 days, so once a week is easy for me.

(If you guys don't mind some tag alongs, I would still love to play.)

Aug 26 2008, 02:46 AM
Hm... an enlisted game... I'm interested. Some game ideas that leap to mind as runnable:
-Blue Planet SR4, ~250-300 bp. Players are junior enlisted aboard an orbital assault ship (read: dropship) which is part of a peacekeeping task force. Things go pear shaped and the players are stranded far behind enemy lines when war breaks out. BP is ostensibly hard sci-fi so no technomancers or magic. The rest maps fairly easily. Loyal sailors/soldiers? Mercs? Humanitarians? Survivalists? It's up to the players to choose their path on a planet where the wildlife is as dangerous as the war itself.
-Mercs! SR4, ~450-500 bp. Killing for money never really goes away. Players will be the core of a Merc company that travels the world doing bad things to "bad" people for vast sums of certified cred. Game will initially start in the Yucatan during the revolution and players will have a number of different factions to appeal to for cash and prizes.
=>Valkyrie 1-7 SR4, ~400-450 bp. A variant on the Merc game it focuses on a Yucatan rebel medical unit that provides battlefield evacuation. Think of it as "Doctor's With Guns But Without Borders". It's not all warm and fuzzy humanitarian of the year work of course. Lot of those Azzie's and rebs have cyber in em and the war makes it hard to import that sort of thing... probably get a good price on what you can salvage. Players are well trained but poorly supplied and authorized to make a profit wherever they can. They'll be less rolling opposed social rolls to negotiate and more plotting to knock over Azzie supply convoys.
-Not So Subtle Madness SR4, 300-350 bp. X-Files with move-by-wire and enhanced articulation. There are things that go bump in night and there are things that go bump in the night because that's the sound they make after their nervous system shutsdown. Low-Medium setting in Seattle and abroad. You guys aren't the Holy Churches right hand but you certainly know how to smack around some ghouls.
My preference is to run Blue Planet, NSSM, or V 1-7. A fun, somewhat mindless, and passingly tactical merc game has it's merits too. Once a week + sounds like a reasonable posting schedule and once I get back stateside (ETA 3 months) I'd be willing to run a couple hours a week of chat based gameplay as well. If you all want the NSSM game to have some enlisted flair I have a couple workarounds including making the players part of the "High Threat Animal Control Team"

I am definitely feeling Not So Subtle Madness...though would a hacker still be reasonable, or should I build someone more combat oriented?

I'm not very good at the whole hacking thing and I don't have easy access to Unwired so I'd say you should probably think of something a little less hacker oriented.
It doesn't necessarily have to be combat oriented since there will be a fair amount of investigation and CSI silliness. But you guys are Animal Control types
Hacking a corps AI is probably not going to happen all that often but busting a maglock or running a 'trix search about that THING that is ripping your van door off might have it's uses.
But yeah, a dedicated hacker is going to feel cheated in my games but a person with hacking skills will definitely have a place.

Sorta diggin' on this. I'm thinking about a trainee mage, first job out of community college.
I could probably post more often than once a week, if you wanted to up the pace. Chat might be a problem, but we can burn that bridge when we come to it.

Aug 26 2008, 06:27 AM
Wow... I really wasn't all that excited about this until the image of a community college mage came to mind. I think that this game will definitely be more fun at a lower power level 300-350 sounds about right (I'll have to look at RC about the whole karmagen thing. That seems to be making people happy)
Now it's glorious, it's like that street sweeper story you sent me the other day. I have this image of the players strapping flak and kevlar on over their "City Animal Control" jumpers
Oh yes... I feeling this. Anyone else interested? If I can get one more I'll start a new thread and start pimping it to the public.

Sounds interesting. Count me in. With a mage already in, what do you say to a (mystical) adept private eye type character?
Goldirocks
Aug 26 2008, 07:41 PM
And how about a gunslinger adept with a thing for parazoology(possibly a current student of it, or a recent dropout)? Or is that too magicy, with two others who also want to play awakened characters?
