Every year for many many many....(you get the point) years my gaming group has alternated games and we try and give a new game a try at least once a year. This has brought use endless hours of fun and has us introduced to greats like Fringeworhty, Robotech, Morrow Project, Shadowrun and so many others. With Everquest addictions a now fading memory and SR back in limelight for the foreseeable future. (messed around with that other games 4th ed but players are in full revolt against it). So for 09 I was considering Eclipse Phase but don't normally get space rpg's, played too many and if I want more usually go back to Star Wars. But I was willing to put it on the short list and it stood there alone after others got added and tossed off. After seeing CGL publishing Cthulu Tech I did little digging into it. I had actually heard of it while back when was looking at Delta Green setting but never saw it published anywere. Now its out and with CGL and has a mix of stuff the players have experience with. So now have two games on my list for extra research this fall.

Budgets tight and another baby on way this winter so other then continuing my SR compulsion I need to narrow the field to one new trial game. Anyone have any experience with CT? Anyone up for pitching pros and cons of either?

I've a bit of experience with both CthulhuTech and Eclipse Phase. I'd be happy to do my best to answer questions on either. However, you might be better suited checking the CthulhuTech forums or visiting the Eclipse Phase web site.

CthulhuTech is available now in PDF, and will have a new hardcopy print run soon. It also has two expansion books, both of which have been very well received.

Eclipse Phase is due in, IIRC, January 2009. So, if you want to read it or run it this fall, that'd be rather problematic.

CthulhuTech uses a fairly innovative dice pool mechanic and has a strong anime feel. While it can be run a number of ways, it has a strong militaristic bent. As you noted that you've played Robotech, I'll venture that you're a fan of that series. CthulhuTech riffs on Robotech very strongly. So, if you like that show, there are a fair number of subtle and not-so-subtle references that I enjoyed seeing. (Notably, though, the game system does a much better job of replicating the heroic feel through its Drama Point system than Palladium's house system does.)

Eclipse Phase is a game focused on Transhumanism, space travel (though generally without space ships), and redefining what it means to be sapient. The notion of taking your brain patterns and uploading them to a new body makes it pretty different from most other RPGs. It can be very in your face, but it can also get fairly cerebral. The game system is a percentile based, and is very straightforward.

Thanks Dunner got cgl's twitter on an rss feed, been keeping tabs on EP since it's announcement. Checked out forums at CT and gone over most of there material as well. I tend to do alot of research before going with any new game. As for timing I wont be running this game until after the first of the year as SR has my schedule pretty much sewn up for next few months. (we meet once every two weeks)

CT would seem to be a sweeping global conflict against horror with plenty of subplot and lots of giant mecha action. (essentially robotech meets chthulhu)
EP appears to be a more personal transhuman journey against ???? guess still few holes in the EP story. What is the antagonist in EP other transhumans or something else?

"Your mind is software, your body is a shell, death is a disease, extinction is approaching."
Eclipse Phase is a pen & paper roleplaying game of post-apocalyptic transhuman conspiracy and horror.

Ok so pinnacle of transhumanism fighting against a govt and .......? What is the horror or is it a more personal horror?
