Next Friday, September 26th, is the closing reception for the "Death of a Samurai" show at my art gallery. There will be art, food, music, video presentations and...

...Shadowrun.

I conned my business partner into agreeing to host a one-shot campaign in one of the conference rooms at our gallery during the event, something about SR fitting the theme because it has Street Samurai--the point is I rolled well, and it's happening.

As mentioned, there will be food, drinks, and entertainment, as well as a projector in the conference room for either maps and visual aids or to provide video entertainment for the 1 IP characters between combat turns, (or while the hacker's doing his thing) depending on what we get together. I'll also be DJ'ing a soundtrack for the game as we play.

I've already told my regular gaming group about this, but I wanted to put the call out there so anyone in the area can come by and join in. I haven't got a solid commitment from my group's GM, so it will probably be either him or me running the show--though I'd be happy to lend the reins to any more experienced GM's that show up.

Expect a drop-in, one-shot campaign with a blockbuster movie feel. Pre-made characters will be on hand for anyone who doesn't have their own (or needs another one after their's get's fragged), as well as a complete collection of SR4 rulebooks in PDF format. You can even borrow my dice if you need to.

The art opening will run from 5 to 7 pm, but the game can continue as long as we want, I'll be there all night. This may be an art gallery in a corporate business center, but the attitude is very laid back, and typical gamer dress/behavior is both acceptable and expected--just leave your monowhips and other restricted gear in the car, and keep the criminal activities in-game.

The gallery is located in the San Luis Business Center at 4251 South Higuera, Suite 800, at the intersection of South Higuera and Los Osos Valley Road. It's the big 2-story building in the middle of the complex, you'll be looking right at it if you come down LOVR. Just come in through the double glass doors facing the street, and I'll show you to the conference room. Keep in mind the doors are tinted, so it may not look like we're open when you get there. Guest parking is available in front, behind, and to the left of the building.

Here's a link to Google Maps to help you locate and identify the place.

I'll be posting more details throughout the week as they become available.

Don't worry, I'm actually a nice guy in person. biggrin.gif

[EDIT]

Game is going to be 400 BP + 20 karma
Houserule on rocket and missile scatter: it only happens when you miss
Advanced lifestyles allowed
Otherwise pretty much RAW

Without giving too much away, the run will involve breaking into a Renraku R&D lab on the top floor of a skyscraper. Also, there will be lots of people after you. Contacts, Combat, and Hacking/Stealth would be good areas to focus on, but I intend to include a little bit of everything, so bring whatever character you want, and I'll adjust the challenges accordingly.

normal 400 bp, or more rad

I'm debating.

Probably just the Basic 400, though I might throw some extra karma in there--I have to flesh out the scenaro more to be sure. Assume 400 BP as a starting point, then work on what you'd add with maybe 15-20 karma just in case.

[edit] Edited original post, answer is there. [/edit]

What I have in mind is something between The Warriors and the last two episodes of Cowboy Bebop. Basically you're going to be trekking across the sprawl and getting into it with all kinds of groups, working your way up to a showdown with an elite Red Samurai commander and his unit.

Since it's a one-shot campaign, I'm trying to design it so the difficulty ramps up gradually, with a pretty decent chance of everyone on both sides dying by the end in spectacular fashion. I'm keeping the details loose and flexible so that it can accommodate players dropping in and out throughout the game, and so that if Matsci or someone else shows up who can DM better than me and wants to take over, I won't end up knowing all the twists.

Mainly, I just want to be able to go with whatever the players feel like doing, giving as many options as possible and only defining the beginning and end points so everyone gets to do something fun for them and we can keep it going for as long or as short as we like.

I definitely encourage bringing multiple characters, so we have them as backups in case someone dies and so we can pass them around or double up as players drop in or leave. I have a handful of character builds that I'll have on hand for people to use as well, but variety is always good. It's also a perfect opportunity to bring out "cannon fodder" builds and other characters that wouldn't work in a long-term campaign for whatever reason.

Be creative, it's taking place in an art gallery after all. cool.gif
