This is Los Angeles. The City of Angels. A city of a million stars and a million bright lights and a billion paparazzi pictures providing point for their existence. Here the newest megacorp, Horizon, has its headquarters. Go a little down, however, and the waterlogged tunnels under the city will devour you whole.

Though I have DMed or GMed everything from AFMBE to Shadowrun to Exalted to the Unnamed Generic RPG, I must warn you that I have never done a PbP before. There. Fair warning.

I need from all of you:

1. A character sheet in spoiler tags. We will generate our characters with 425 BP and 25 Karma. Normal character creation rules otherwise, any book goes.

2. Backgrounds. The twenty questions in Runner's Companion will suffice.

3. Posting. Once every two days is fine. Tell me about any lapses.

NPCs: Do not assume the reaction of anything that's likely to try to fight you or give you significant stuff.

Dicery: PM me your e-mail. Then, Go here, register and join the dice log. Edit: Damn this, let's use invisible castle like everyone else. Just register and sign in and roll. Much simpler. Our Campaign name is Integrity.

Conventions: Changed 12/15: Narration "Speech" Texting/IMing/Subvocal/Thoughts Emphasis

NPC Character Notes: Reserved.

Question: Is this game for a particular group, or are you recruiting?

Comment: The link to the dice server gives me a "Secure Connection Failed" error (hamete.org uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed). It could throw a few people off. They can set up an exception to ignore the error, but the screen looks pretty much like it does when a site doesn't exist.
Shadow
Assuming you are recruiting, what kind of game is it? Will combat heavy character be left in the cold, or visa versa.
Glyph
I have a question: do you use the optional rule that adepts can take a power point in lieu of a metamagical technique when they initiate? This will influence whether I initiate or do something else with it.

I have a character, Dancer, who was in two games that fizzled. She was originally created for an L.A. game, so she might be a pretty good fit for this game. She is an adept who is a combat-oriented face. The good thing about a dancer/face/combat build is that it is a lot easier to switch points around if you think she is too much in a certain area.
Damage
I would like to be considered. I'll have a character worked up and posted quickly. Probably a human combat shaman.
Curuinor
I am recruiting.

All arenas of the shadowrun experience will be factored in.

Yes, the security thing is messed up on the dice server. It's not really a worry— I use it while I play by e-mail, and it hasn't done anything in the 3 months I've been using it in.

The PP rule is allowed.
Mickle5125
'ello comrade. Sign me up, should there be an opening yet.
JoelHalpern
I would be interested in joining the game.
I am tempted to run a technomancer or fall back to a hacker. (If you would prefer the hacker, I need to know what your take is on the pirated software rules in Unwired.)

Thanks,
Joel
Shadow
Consider me applied then.

ravensoracle
Consider me in if there is still a slot left. I am open on a character concept at this point. I can fill in any holes in the team.
Glyph
Here's Dancer:

Character sheets, as fast as possible, please. Pirated software is allowed up to rating 4, and it gets obsolescent.

Also note the dice system change. Thank you for conforming.
Ears
Looks like there are a lot of people already but if you've still got a slot left, I'm interested. Character to follow in a few hours.
BlackHat
Also interested, but it looks like you've got six or seven before me, and it would be a day or two before I would have something together. Let me know if people drop out, though.
DWC
Add me to the waiting list, also. I can have something ready by the end of the day.
ravensoracle
I am working on a Magician/Street Doc. Will have him posted later today.

By "gets obsolescent" I take it you mean the software degradation rules, from Unwired.

It isn't called out in the legal software vs. pirated software section, but according to page 94 of Unwired, downloading pirate programs (from the Cracker Underground, for example) costs 10% of the price of legal software. Would you allow this at character-generation, too, for characters using pirated programs, or do you want them to have to pay full price?

Mickle5125
any special house rules we need know about?

IE:
more nuyen/ bp?
natural Cha*2 free contact points?
changed availability?
no limit on qualities?
BlackHat
Draft character for consideration (if other people flake out). smile.gif Dusted off from a previous game, so my feelings won't be hurt if the game is full-up, and it doesn't get used. Also, might want to make some changes (shuffle some points around, spend leftover cash), particularly depending on the rest of the team's makeup.

Finally, I've been trying to find a recruiting SR4 game for about a week and a half. Ha. Fair warning: I'm new to the system, but no tabletop gaming or PbP. So, I may have a few system related questions at first and I may have the most absolutely awesome character build.

I made him an outsider to the Shadows because I am new to the game. He's as ignorant as I. I've never gone on a run, so neither has he.

UPDATE: Ok, he's at 425BP + 25karma now.

[ Spoiler ]

Also note that I am note that I'm not married to the character. I like him, but I'll also play something else if it means I get to play. I just really want to finally get to play some Shadowrun.
ravensoracle
Here is my Magician/ Street Doc.

I still have to finish polishing the background but here is His sheet so far.

[ Spoiler ]
Mickle5125
Character: Rose
Concept: Pixie infiltration/assassination specialist

BACKGROUND to come later
Felime
Very interested(as games never come up, and I allways seem to miss them), I'll be giving you a sheet either today or tomorrow.
Ears
Took a bit longer than I thought, here's Bloom, an elven demolitions / heavy weapons guy:
[ Spoiler ]

As I don't have Runner's Companion, I just wrote some blurbs about the guy. If I missed something you want to know, just ask.
Kerris
Any room in this game?

(Figures, I don't check it for a day or two, and a game pops up)
Curuinor
Thanks to all those who applied. The IC game is here.

This is now the OOC discussion topic.

According to the second post:
Shadow
Glyph
Blackhat
Mickle5125
ravensoracle

I think the GM was rather surprised at the level of response.
Joel

Shadow
Ahh I was looking for a new post, he was sly and updated and old post....

and woot I'm in a game with Glyph it's been a while biggrin.gif
Shadow
It would save an enourmas amount of time RP wise if we were an existing team, maybe not veterans but all knowing of each other.

Whisper is a utility/healer. He has a couple of combat abilities, and of course he can summon elementals which are awesome. He is fantastic at stun damage, and can pretty much take any one target with a single touch attack biggrin.gif

Beyond that he is a bhudist who follows it as much as he can. He usually tries to find a solution to any given problem that doesn't involve killing.

Mickle5125
Rose is a Pixie infiltration speciallist. She used to be partners with a moderately famous hacker, but rumor has it that he's recently caught a bad case of dead, since she hasn't been seen with him recently.

I don't mind knowing you guys... maybe even worked with you once or twice, but as an established team, it doesn't work too well.
Felime
Aww, so, it's closed? And I just finished the sheet and half a decent background. Damn you people without school and your ability to get to games first.

I'll post it up anyways just for giggles and go back to lurking for a new game.
ravensoracle
Doc is a magically gifted street doc. He is a strong spellcaster but a little weaker when it comes to spirits. He has started a small clinic and been running the shadows to keep the place afloat since the clinic doesn't have the richest client base. He is not only skilled at magical healing but at the mundane side as well. Doc is also a skilled chemist and biologist. He is definitely an academic at heart so while he can fire an SMG for protection he prefers not to kill. Normally he doesn't even use anything more deadly than gel or Stick-n-shock rounds.

I have no problem knowing the rest of the group. It will definitely save time and makes the group dynamics work a little better IMO.
BlackHat
Summary (for those who didn't read the whole PC): A metasapient AI. Very good at getting into systems, undetected, and punching holes in their security for others, and doing the same sort of malicious things a Shadowrunning team usually wants a hacker for. Doesn't really hide the fact that he's an AI, and if you guys have worked with him, you'll know he is not good at respecting other people's privacy - but that if you've shown any concern about it, he will stay out of your systems. If anyone doesn't have any problem with it, he'd happily ride along in somebody's commlink - otherwise he has a drone he can bring to the meet.

I'll start posting IC, if that's alright, but have some leftover cash to spend (that I'll get sorted out tonight, I hope, or early tomorrow morning). If that's an issue, I don't really mind loosing the 3K or whatever.
ravensoracle
He can ride my comm if you want Blackhat. Its not top of the line but it should be sufficient I think. I am not 100% on the AI rules yet. Doc wouldn't mind him stickin around. I was planning on decking out Doc with some radar and Ultrasound and some sensor programs to be used as a poor doctors diagnostic imaging suite. Since Doc isn't all that great with computers, he would appreciate having someone give him a hand with it. It would be a good reason why the two know each other.

EDIT: corrected Blackhats name to blackhat not blackout. Sorry was looking at gear.
Shadow
Wow, I didn't know you could play AI's that's awesome!! And Yeah he is welcome to come along my commlink as well.

@Raven, hey Whisper is a warding specialist, the two of them could make some extra money doing wards. It aint hard and the money is very good. Anyone with a magic point and astral vision can do it.
ravensoracle
I think that would work. Like I said Doc is trying to get his clinic off the ground so that would be some extra income. I wrote Doc to only have DAy Job at 10hrs with the idea that he is funding the place and has other mundane doctors working there full time. He really shows up for a day or two a week to check on things and add his magical healing to the mix. Mainly getting called in on the harder cases.
Damage
Sorry I missed getting in, but I look forward to seeing how this works out.

Here's the basic character sheet for Silver
[ Spoiler ]

History and full gear list are in the works
Felime
Here's the (fully complete, probably shouldn't have taken the time to do that) sheet:

[ Spoiler ]

I'm not going to finish the bio, that'd require a lot more time for a game I'm likely never to see, but, basically, Alex was born in a downtrodden area of Hong-Kong, knocked about, and got her start as a shadowrunner in the street gangs, running drugs. She slowly began picking up augmentations, here and there, starting with eyes from drug money, and, finally, getting in on the big stuff, until she grew out of her gang-roots, slipping off into the night and never showing her face again. She bribed her way through customs, landing in California, picking up some unscrupulous loans to finish off her suite of 'ware, and blew towards the money. LA seemed the place to be.

She's a stealth specialist, focusing on support from afar, watching, and intervening in a very physical way with carefully placed Ex-Ex rounds.
Glyph
Since we're doing character summaries, here's one for Dancer. She is a relatively new transplant to L.A., but would probably have worked with the others on a few jobs (and maybe one or two jobs that included Rose). All of the P2.0 stuff would still seem bizarre to her. She wouldn't have any privacy issues with the A.I.

Dancer

Description
Dancer is a petite but well-proportioned orkish woman who moves with the feline grace of a dancer. Pale blonde hair in a tousled pixie cut frames a deceptively innocent-looking face. She has startling bright green eyes, and a golden tan that is too lush and even to be natural. She wears minimal cosmetics and dresses to blend in (except in nightclubs, where she is very daring), but she still draws people's eyes. Although attractive by human standards, she has not gone for any procedures to alter her orkish looks (tusk reduction, etc.).

Background
Dancer is a runner out of Seattle, a con artist and backup gunsel who has gravitated towards jobs such as information gathering, willing extractions, and datasteals. Subtler jobs where violence is not as ubituous, if still small-time stuff for the most part. There are rumors she danced in some of the sleazier clubs to supplement her income when she was starting out, and darker rumors that she used to do wetwork. The latter rumor doesn't quite seem to fit her personality, though. While ruthless when she has to be, she tends to shun violence except as a last resort.

Personality
Dancer's original youthful idealism has faded to a nonchalant cynicism. she has seen it all, and nothing much fazes her any more. She is cheerfully amoral, but in a laid-back, casual way. Her manner actually induces people to open up to her, since she gives the impression of being someone who won't be shocked or judgemental by most admissions.

Role
Dancer is a face, also specializing in close combat, although ironically, she tends to see it as a last resort when talking, shooting from cover, or running away are not viable options. She dislikes killing, and using her charms to lure targets, even if actual sex is not involved, but she will still do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Glyph
Here is the roll for Dancer's starting money.

7 x 50 = 350 nuyen.gif
BlackHat
Got busy with some stuff that I didn't plan on, and now its midnight. I'll post an entrance for Malloc.I in the morning.

Edit: THinking more about it, if Malloc.I is riding in on some of Doc's hardware, he should probably post first anyway, so I can feel less bad about sleeping first. wink.gif
BlackHat
Reused some of that introduction. Hope no one minds - I promise I won't normally be so wordy - but I think it gives a good introduction to the character.
BlackHat
Starting cash roll here. (19x50=950 nuyen)

Spending remaining chargen cash prepaying one extra month of lifestyle, if that's okay?

Also, "Malloc" is a fine nickname if you guys prefer it, but the name is really "Malloc.I" (pronounced MAL-a-kye). wink.gif

Also, I assume the holoprojector has speakers, and so Malloc.I could speak out loud - but you would all know from working with him, that he most easily communicates with "Matrixese" which is cobbled together emoticons, memes, symbols, etc that most people (who use the matrix) have been exposed to, and can get the gist of. His English (or Japanese, for that matter) isn't particularly good, especially when not discussing things in matrix-jargon. He probably gets confused a lot when you guys speak, and just lets it go unannounced.
BlackHat
I did a poop-job of sticking to the formatting guidelines. embarrassed.gif I'll do better, and try to keep to the present tense, too. I think for a post mostly about what Malloc.I did leading up to the present, its fine the way it is.
BlackHat
Hacking (6) + Stealth (9) = 15 dice for Hiding on the To's Noodles node (other icons are at -6 to detect).
[5,6,5,3,2,3,2,1,2,3,5,6,1,1,2] (5 hits).

Went ahead and assumed that Malloc.I was moving around undetected, not that most people would care if a strange icon was logged into a public node.

Matrix perception tests: Computer (1) + Analyze (6) + Observe in Detail (3) +AI bonus (3) = 15 dice. Will simply buy 3 successes, since I don't really care.

Can ask three questions about the random corp icons (which I don't expect to matter much), but they'll be:
- What is their System rating?
- What is their Firewall rating?
- What is their Encryption rating?

I assume those are the sorts of "ratings" one can get from this test - not 100% clear on encryption, but since one would have to decrypt it before attempting to access the node, this seems like how you would gauge how hard that is.

Don't spend a lot of time on any response, since I have no intention of taking up a lot of time digging around in their systems (since it would probably not matter), but a general sense of their ratings might be useful. If the corp has deep pockets, these guys might be all rolling with blinged out Calibans running rating 6 custom corporate OSs with military-grade encryption, or something - and so one might think they could afford more than their offering for important data. If they had to buy their own comms, and they're all running Vector Xim, with no encryption, then one might get the opposite impression.

So, its not a total waste of time to check, I'm guessing.

Sorry Blackhat, I was really too tired to have posted last night but didn't want to hold you up. For some reaon I thought that his name was Malloc-One and figured Doc would probably just drop the "one" part since he sees Malloc.I as just another person only without a body. Consider the mistake not too have happened on my part and I will start adressing him properly.

BlackHat
No biggie. I kind of wanted the .I to look like a one. (Like, maybe, malloc version 1 or something), but the names sounds better if its an I. Malloc is fine if people think their characters would use that instead.
Shadow
We can always call him Mal biggrin.gif
