This is the world of shadowrunners, chummer.
A world dominated by mega-corps, directing the flow of wealth, power and information.
A world populated by numberless orcs, elves, and dwarves, as well as billions of humans.
A world where the vast majority live lives of quiet desperation and the very few enjoy fabulous luxury.
A world where the only currency is nuyen and the only means to it is subterfuge.
A world where precious data is worth many times its weight in gold and teams of shadowrunners specialize in its extraction -
- without detection, if at all possible -
- with extreme prejudice, if necessary.
The year is forty years from now.

Gives the wrong impression. They are not "numberless", first of all. But it makes it sound like it's metas vs human. I'd go with a sentence that illustrate the casualness of part of the population being mythical creatures, rather than make them sound like the barbarians at the gate.
"A world where the only currency is nuyen and the only means to it is subterfuge."
The Nuyen is not the only currency. It is just the most widespread.
"The year is forty years from now."
2048 is VERY early in the SR timeline, just FYI, but that might be your choice. The current timeline is 2071 for reference.
