tell me what you all think about this.
WARNING my writing skills suck.
So im taking a break from running shadowrun. about a year ago i picked up a game book called Maelstrom storytelling.
i picked it up because thats the name ive used for myself the past several years.
anyway, the setting is a world that is composed of many sub realities called realms. the main reality in which all the realms exist in is the maelstrom. it is a place, a storm, the world and reality in itself. in this world reality shifts and fluctuates. things change places move sciences twists and magic warps. in each realm science and magic work differently. some worlds may rely on oils while others use mills to generate electricity because those oils do not burn there. some use black powder bombs, canons, and guns. but if those stay away from their home realm to long they cease to function.
there are over a thousand realms in the world and its impossible to truly map it all.
the overall setting is steampunk-renaissance-esque.
the races are not your typical elves, dwarves, orcs ,and what-have-you.
there are several different races.
the krill are large lobster like people with minor telepathy.
the adollans are spider like people who live in seclusion.
the shrikes are twisted humanoids that are very violent to the other races.
the darig are lizard folk from the deserts.
the venth are a very tall gaunt race that are hard for me to really describe ill come back to them later.
the sowl are people with wing membranes and long tails.
and the kenratha which are pretty much just cat people ranging from elderscrolls esque kahjit to anime cat people.
and then there are newcomers which are people from outside the maelstrom reality.
essential you can be anything from any universe or time period.
the game mechanics are refreshingly different.
instead of straight numbered statistics you have descriptors.
there are four aspects
matter governing physical actions
mind governing mental actions
spirit governing emotional and spiritual actions
and chaos governing anything directly related to the storm
starting off you get two descriptors and a weak descriptor(flaw)
races do not have any real bonuses to them.
also there are affinities.
prime affinities are your characters culture, life style, or dedicated occupation.newcomers start with the kael affinity
prime affinities can also be supernatural gifts and powers.
secondary affinities are your skills and abilities.
i will add to this as i see fit.
