This is the OOC Thread for Plata o Plomo - Reloaded

Please repost your character sheet (updated for the month that passed) and your background here. I'll edit the first post to put links in so we can find that stuff easier.

Feel free to post a "what I did in the last two weeks" post in the IC thread, and post any "Could I have bought...?" questions here.

In the first two weeks, the runners tracked the two men they were hired to shadow, and their contacts (not going into details here, in case anyone plays the campaign still.)

Assume you all got 12500 Nuyen, and subtract living cost and other likely expenses. 1 karma for the scene we managed.

First Jasper is looking for a browse 6 (common use)program? nuyen.gif 600 ?
if he can get that he'd use it to find a cracker site(search data + browse[8,1day])
day 1 = 3 hits
day 2 = 4 hits
day 3 = 3 hits
then he wants to get a biofeedback filter 6 (search+browse[18,1combat turn]) nuyen.gif 600
pilot 4 for his 2 trucks (search+browse[16,1combat turn]) nuyen.gif 1,000 each
and patches for his 20 programs(that degrade 1 in a month right?)(search+browse[3-17,1 combat turn]) nuyen.gif 1,640
this is a lot of rolling, but its in combat turns, so i figured its like one minute a program tops...?

then he'd like to buy upgrades to the response chips in his van, from 3 to 4 is availability 12 and 4,000?

total 8,840
plus lifestyle: 1,000
let me know if all this is kosher, then I'll update the character sheet

edit: I also want to upgrade the atmospheric sensors in the van- 75

Nuke has a busy month. He starts off by buying 2 Nexi (Response 3, Signal 0, persona limit 5, processor limit 20) for 3k each, through a legit retailer at the start of the surveillance job. Over breakfast, he downloads a bunch of pirated software.

Here's the sheet for Rossi. I might have to check through to ensure he's 20th A compatable if you're going to be using the latest changes (I don't have the book yet. Just the pdf detailing the rules which aren't the same.)

I've left all the BP's and costs on for reference.

His current nuyen would be at 8200 and he'll have 1 Karma unspent as I'm fairly sure I won't be making any spends with him yet. Mostly as it's been so long since the game was active I've forgotten most of the specifics.

Edit - I suspect I was saving up points for both a pilot ground vehicle score and a bike. So he can get to/from places without any serious trouble.

Edit 2 - was to update nuyen total.

Glad to see Discharge's memory lives on! Sorry about the van. wink.gif
Fuchs
Is everyone ok with using the SR4A rules? Without optional Direct Combat Spell drain.
DWC
Sure. Just have to do a tiny amount of juggling to make Nuke's commlink legal.
Oenone
I'm not sure I'm especially fond of some of them to be honest (and I only have the free pdf they released to expain the changes). But if everyone else likes them then fair enough. The better karma reward system will at least make it less of a pain.

I was about to post something about needing to change social DP bonus items about, but it turns out he's getting a +8 bonus and has a combined attribute + skill score of 9. Meaning he's actually already compliant, which is a plus point.

Out of interest did they actually include prices for darts for the dartguns that got added? They're not listed in the changes pdf and neither is the skill used to fire the guns. I'd assume they're supposed to be exotic weapons?

Edit - Will post something IC later tonight.
Fuchs
Way I understand the DP limits apply after all modifiers - positive and negative - had been calculated. So, even if you're above the cap you'll not be forced to change anything since you'll be calculating the DP for each test anew anyway.
Oenone
Does it count a skill specialization as a modifier too?
BlackHat
IIRC, there was also an optional rule to cap dice pools at the higher of 20 or twice the attribute+skill.
Since its optional, I assume you don't have to worry about situational modifiers being lost on you, but it might be something to check on.

Thought you'd like that cyber.gif

i haven't got SR4A ... guess I'll look for the errata, I'm running a real life game with people who don't want to update yet(having just purchased and learned the other rules), so this could get confusing.

edit: found the errata, 3 pages? not as many changes as I thought. I looked over my character and I think its all kosher(assuming my glasses are rating 4 and my earbuds are rating 3) also, can you put the modular electronics upgrade in any device or is it just for vehicles?
Fuchs
Yes, specialization is a modifier too.
Oenone
Are we using any specific colour code conventions?
Fuchs
Not to my knowledge.
dionysus
Sorry I haven't gotten anything posted - work's been hell and I got a nasty bug that laid me out. That being said, I think I'm going to bow out - I'm just not going to have the time to put towards something like this until June at the earliest. Hate to leave just at the start, but I don't want people to wait for me.
Fuchs
Ok, Dionysus. For the rest - meeting's at 20.00, meeting spot is outside in the side alley, as before.

Comment on Timestamps. I'd like to use the same calendar as everyone else. April or March?

We're all working together here to have fun, so one thing to keep in mind is post order and scene timing can actually be different. For example I posted IC Yukika arriving just before the meet time, that's just what she does. But I OOC posted before a lot of other people because I happened to do that first. If you'll notice in my post I did not specifically mention or indicate who Yukika expected to meet, other then what was already known that someone was already there. This leaves room for anyone posting after myself to IC arrive earlier then Yukika and post IC accordingly. I have no problem editing or adjusting my post if necessary, but I did make it very open for that reason.
DWC
Pretty sure it should be April. My reference to March was a time stamp copy/paste error, which I've sorted. Good point about not specifying who's where when.
Fuchs
Corrected the date, it's April, yes.

I am shooting for one post per weekday, more or less, and I will be trying to keep the game moving. If someone gets skipped we can always adjust the posts (or clear stuff in PMs) but I'd rather not have everyone wait for one post for more than 2 days or so.
Fuchs
I'll add the Johnson post in the evening today, for those who want to get some bantering in before that.
Oenone
It's looking like I don't have time to keep up with all my forum games at the minute, tons of stuff going on IRL, so I'd be best ducking out now. Sorry it's taken me so long and I hope you all enjoy the run!
Fuchs
Ok, oneone. I'll delay the "meeting the Johnson" post until this evening so a new player (LostProxy) can get his character concept in and take part in the meeting.
Fuchs
Got no answer so I went ahead.

Cha 5 + Negotiation 2 + First Impression 2 + Kinesics 3 + Cool Resolve 2 (Opposed social test) (14d6.hits(5)=5)

Work towards higher pay, the 20% advance seems good enough, though if we need the cash ahead of the job let me know. I am assuming most of us have some cash left over from the last one.

I am presuming for the purposes of moving through this scene that no one objects IC to accepting the job, at which point we can proceed to gather the details after the negotiation test.

What You May HAve Learned about Snow Flower

During the last run, Snow Flower would have used lots of watchers and spirits, displayed a distrust of technology in her own personal use while admiring other's people facility with tech, and taught everyone how to play with a flower deck. One spell for certain you will have seen her use is Animate, since she entertains herself by making small objects move themselves on their own.

Edit. And Yukika remembers everything....
Fuchs
What you may have learned about Stray: Stray hasn't displayed exceptional smarts, but showed great talents on a physical level - especially with gymnastics/dancing and hand-to-hand combat. She also seems a bit easier than expected to manipulate, and not very tech-savy - the group's hacker had to upgrade the programs in her commlink before it could be deemed safe for group communications.
DWC
Nuke is more definable by what he's not than what he is. He's not a "Hack the Planet" digital anarchist. He's not a basement dwelling, soy-snax addicted, sunlight allergic hermit who lives his whole life in VR. He's not a technobabble spewing weirdo who talks in three letter acronyms. In short, he's pretty much as far from a matrix nerd as a hacker can be. If pushed to define himself, he considers himself a thief, rather than a hacker. He's mentally quick, but not brilliant. To him, hacking is just another thing he has to be able to do in order to live outside the dictates of the law and is no more special to him than being able to scale a fence, hotwire a maglock, or use a rifle. It just happens to be what he's best at.

Psychologically, he's the archtypical worker bee. He falls quite comfortably into being bossed around, and actually seems to work best in situations where he can ignore the big picture and focus on the tasks in front of him.
Red-ROM
working with Jasper, you probably learned the names of his vehicles and drones (and his gun "Harry") and you probably learned that he'll talk to them just as much as people. He doesn't have the hottest gear, and he complains about it constantly. He misses the military hardware he was accustomed to. he likes to make jokes and is pretty laid back, even when things get dicey. aside from being a decent shot with the most powerful handgun in the world, he sucks in a fight, But he's got some well rounded technical skills and a lot of tools. also, he loves to drive. just about anything. it doesn't matter. a beat up sedan, a tricked out bike. he's been behined the "wheel" of just about everything.

man, no van? not a lot to go on..

Mr smith/ his house

Andrew Kelborn

United Oil

cheryl's apartment

cheryl's friends/ clients

the Evrette mall where the van was dumped

Lonestar?

am I missing anything? where're we headin after Ticklers?
Fuchs
One notice: If in doubt, be a bit more abstract and tell me what your character is trying to find out, don't simply ask what's in a place, or on a list.

For example (hypothetical), if you want to check whether the peanut butter price has anything to do with Cheryl's schedule, don't ask for Cheryl's schedule and for a list of the last 14 days' peanut butter closing prices, simply ask "my character cross-checks the peanut butter price changes with Cheryl's schedule, does he find anything suspicious?".

More stuff to go on:

Checking Cheryl's commlink account at her provider to see if she was contacted or hacked recently. Same for her appartment.

Checking if anyone pressured Lone Star to put the case on a backburner.

Checking if the van went through any chop shop before it ended up in the hands of the runner - there were no RFID tags left, so someone took great care with it, not the usual modus operandi of a "steal a van for the job and hack the owner's data so they don't miss it for a day" runner team plan.

Checking if Mr. Johnson has any rivals who might want to take over or wreck his business.
DireRadiant
I guess we're moving to take a look at the scene of the crime, while planning on our next moves.

Any suggestions?

Snow Flower will want to see Cheryl's apartment at some point too.

02-Apr-2071, 20:15:45, Ticklers, Alki, Downtown, Seattle

Mr. Johnson nodded to Nuke. "Ok, I trust you to treat this information with the utmost discretion. Cheryl was meeting a Mister Frank Smith in the Chelsea's. ....
Fuchs
Ah, me bad, I was sifting through all posts but mine.
Fuchs
The recording of Cheryl did look surprised.
Red-ROM
so where is Chelsea's?
Fuchs
A good area of Downtown (though not that good - not too much surveillance).
DireRadiant
Things to look at

Mr Smith aka Andrew Kelborn
Home
Work
United Oil

Cheryl's Home
Friends/Clients

Driver

Snow Flower can't do much legwork, but face to face interviews, and visiting a few locations will prove useful. So we need to locate and meet people, and get into physical locations.

If someone can do the Data Browse and various hacking Matrix Mumbo Jumbo on those three it would be good.

Do any of you have contacts who might know something about any of the people or elements involved?

Fuchs, Snow Flower will ask Butterfly (L2 C4) if she knows anything about Cheryl, or the Johnson. She'll also check with Jake the Oni(L2 C2) if he knows anything about the Driver. Let me know if you want dice rolls for this, but I'm good with simply buying hits.
DWC
Nuke's on something of a wild goose chase mental tangent that's going to eventually lead to hacking GridGuide to try to find the vehicles that the kidnappers used before and after the van, though that can easily be set aside in favor of finding Andrew Kilborn and looking at United Oil.
DireRadiant
Multi tasking!
Fuchs
Not much from Snow Flower's contacts about the girl. Cheryl hasn't gotten any special attention by the Yakuza, though she'd have been hired if asking for work. The Johnson is another case - "Slick Jim" is his nickname, and he runs an escort service mostly in Downtown, operating in Tickler's as well. He pays protection money to the mob, so the Yakuza tagged him as mob-associate. By all accounts he's the typical pimp, though more business-minded, and he goes for charm instead of slapping, and considers himself a lady's man, even though his partners are recruited from his employees. He did start out as a male escort for Renraku, however, so his sleazy manners might just be an act - he certainly did not behave like that in the past.

Oni remembers the driver - "Kool Kate" was her street name 2 years ago, when she was a freelance rigger. Her team got caught up in some shootout with Shiawase security, and she needed major surgery afterwards, then started working for Slick Jim's business as a driver. The woman hasn't ran into Yakuza so far, but did a few runs for associates as a freelancer.
gobogen
Flash will ask around to see if anyone within the Klashers know anything about either of them. She won't go into details as to why she wants to know though.
DWC
Did Nuke's agent find anything about who owns United Oil? Is it privately held, or is it a publicly traded corporation? If it's public, who are the major shareholders? Also, was Nuke able to find an address or a commcode for Kilborn?
Fuchs
Public Corp. No shareholder is involved in running the corp, it's treated as a purely financial investment.

Both Slick Jim and Cheryl are a bit out of the league for a gang. Slick Jim might be known, but no more details than what was already posted. He is under the protection of the mob, at least as gangs know. Depending on who Flash asks, and how stoned the gang member is, she might also get questions why she wants to know, or jokes about a moonlighting job.
Red-ROM
Jasper will hit up Mrs J(L2/C4) and Slim(L4/C2), see if they know anything about a van Impounded in Everette being stolen off of Lone star, or anyone hiring for a snatch job in Chelsea a few days back. He'll also have Charlene scan for Lone Star radio chatter nearby.

also, is everyone riding separate?
