so...I figured this was probably where I should place this, but if another Forum area is better, tell me. I just wanted to share my GM's last run for us.
It was a normal run, get in, grab the package, get out. We were told that the package in question was large enough to not fit in a briefcase, but COULD fit in a body bag. That should have tipped me off that something was wrong, but it didn't.
The first part of the mission, getting in, was easy. Our Technomancer had gotten a temp job at the NeoNet building a day or two before as a tech security specialist, thus getting us easily into the building and down the elevator to the hidden floors. From there, we found what we were looking for, which was apparently a little girl, about 15, and trapped in a secure cell. I decided to Astrally Project to try and learn some more about what was in the room, but she didn't register when I looked at her, she had no Aura. I'm pretty damn good at Assensing, but I couldn't sense a thing from her. Fine, she's a drone, I thought...until she turned directly at me, and started talking, talking to ME.
Now keep in mind, I was in Astral Form, not even my party could detect me, and Tech shouldn't be able to see me either. It started to freak me out a bit, what was she?
Well....we got her out off the cell easily, and she kept asking to go outside, she'd never been outside. We tried to oblige, but something got by our techno, and lonestar was alerted. Damn. This never ends well.
We got up to the floor above our entrance, and then Lonestar busted in. They didn't know where we were, but they knew we were trapped. The girl was scared, and I had a plan, which involved large earth elementals.
I overcasted, Force 12 Earth-man, and he went out, busted up some Lone Stars, and attracted a big ass gunship too. Damn, too bad about my Earth Elemental, but in the confusion, we got out of the building, and ran.
Lucky for me and the girl, I can turn into a big dog, a big, strong dog. And she's never ridden a dog before, go figure. We ran back to my place, the others split up, covering my retreat when possible, and we met up later. I couldn't help but notice though, that cameras and sensors were shutting down when we passed, and the girl kept saying, "Don't let them find us, don't let them find us..." Freaky eh? Our Techno might have some competition.
When we met up, I had her play with my friend, Siya, while we discussed the implications of what we found, while our Techno went and met the Johnson in a local VR Hacker's bar. Turns out, both the Johnson and this girl are prototype AIs...that can channel both Mana and the Resonsance. This freaked me out even more, as my entire view of the universe was brought into question. Magic, Hardware/Software and Resonance? Impossible, right? But maybe not...
When the two AIs left in one of our Drones, I let her take one of my Magickal trinkets she was playing with, a small Coin that displays various light shows...just a toy....then I found out it never left my shelves...and she simply replicated it....weird huh? Now we can add Mana and Matter replication to her list of abilities? There goes the laws of Physics...
I'm gonna keep a close eye on these two, and on NeoNet, their not gonna take kindly to this. What scares me most: she's supposed to be a prototype...
For those who think we're breaking the rules of the game...yes...we are...or the GM is at least. For us, it's just a plot hook, and a damn good one I think.
But if you have some constructive feedback, please feel free to leave it. Keep in mind, I'm not the GM, so I have no power as to what rules are going to be broken. Personally though, I like where this is going.
