PREMISE:
OK, I'm starting pbp game. The premise is that the SSC is causing more and more trouble in Outremer and of the individual corps keeping the peace there (KE, Metroplex Guard, Yakuza, dozens of small outfits), none can be bothered to do anything on their own, so the committee governing the islands has decreed a joint task force be formed. Every major player has to chip in material, people and information, small fish are encouraged to do so.
The PCs are one team within the task force.

RECRUITMENT:
I'm aiming for three players and I've already invited d'Ark and Scarecrow, so there's one spot free.

CREATION GUIDELINES:
400BP + 10 Karma + Cha*2 BPs in free Contacts
Basically all books, I don't have them all, so be prepared to explain any unusual stuff, no Empathy stuff (don't like it ), stuff from WAR! frowned upon
The group gets a patrol boat for free (someone might wanna be able to steer it ), everyone gets one free contact - your direct superior.
Usual availability limits (with the usual Qualities to get around it allowed) for the rest of your gear.
As for where the characters may come from and what they do: as long as they would reasonably be sent to be part of such a group - and are capable of working together with the other members -, anything goes. Remember, this might very well be a Yakuza working together with a KE cop and a hippy ecologist from one of the reservation islands, so play nice. Not too nice, though.

I'll have a character sorted by Saturday or Sunday...just started a new job so my brain is somewhat lacking.

I'm interested in trying some PbP, which I've never done before, so would you tolerate someone who is a newbie to PbP? How often would posts/updates be done and what, if any, outside resources (dice rollers, character managers, whatever) would you be using?

In my experience, expecting more than weekly posting is unrealistic (does happen, though not on a regular basis) and if the rate goes down to once every other week, games tend to die. So, about once a week.

I usually roll my dice on http://invisiblecastle.com/. Other than that, maybe google maps.

That figures. I tried a few weeks ago to create an account on Invisible Castle and still haven't gotten a confirmed account there. The forums for the site seem to be missing and attempting to contact who ever runs the site using the link on their page fails...looks like I'll have to sit it out unless I magically get an email soon.

Null sheen, any other dice roller's fine by me. Invisible Castle is just the one most folks here use, so I'm kinda used to it.

And seeing as this came up in a PM: I'd like your characters to have some tie-ins with the islands, be it that they're your home, or you work there (legally or illegally), or you're part of an ecological group concerned about the welfare of some species of nearly extinct killer sea lice, whatever. Partly conflicting interests and office politics are supposed to be part of it.

I'll have a sheet and so on up tomorrow, but I'm planning on playing a sniper. Something nice and simple compared to the headache inducing hacker rules.

Since I've not really had any ideas yet, does anyone want to share so I can have a vaguely related starting point?

I have a Parkour-based character dancing through my mind that I feel would fit this game, if you have room for one more...

@d'Ark: Not sure what anyone else is doing, but I'm playing a technomancer, so we needn't worry about hackers. Not until I get myself geeked, anyhow.

Something in between. You are officially working for the Outremer local 'gov' (badge and all, little good it'll do you in most cases) and if there is even just the flimsiest of token efforts to cover up your involvement with anything illegal, say being a Yakuza hitman, nobody's gonna look. Not digging into the backgrounds of the people being sent to the JTF is part of its statutes - as long as they keep from breaking the law while on duty.

So, you can be a regular Runner hired by some corp to join in while not risking compromising internals, a concerned citizen of any island in the sound, a security wageslave, an actual KE / Metroplex Guard leo, a member of a crime syndicate, pretty much whatever you want, as long as there's some kind of connection and usefull skillset.

So! adept geas acceptable?

a: Been thinking about this for a while and honestly, I'm not convinced that Adepts need that extra bonus. But heck, you can take a -25% Geas - but no "doesn't ever happen" condition shenanigans. BTW, if you want a discount on some of your powers, I got absolutely no problem with anything from Way of the Adept.

b: Ammo, well get your character some for the start, there's gonna be supplies later. If you know Nash Bridges, the various makeshift precints they had over the course of the show are about what it's gonna be for the start, especially the semi-converted pleasure barge.

Checked it, tried to make another account last week, still nada. Tried to "reset" my password just to kick the system into working, still nothing. I do have an account at RolePlay onLine! but I'm really a total newbie to PbP so I don't really know how any of this stuff works anyway. If you still want another player I'll figure them out but I am wondering if anyone is doing the boat's pilot sort? If that is covered, what role isn't really addressed? I need to review some material for an appropriate background, but can whip up at least a rough draft sometime today or tomorrow.

@Speed Wraith: So, hacker's covered. Announced but not in yet: Gunbunny and Traceur. Someone who can pilot a boat certainly won't hurt. Or someone who has more than zero (or even negative) social skills.

Perfect, I'm thinking about a local smuggler who has had his normal business in the islands interrupted by whatever the Salish are up to. He'll have a smattering of hacking skills but focused on a rigger bent and will have some social abilities because you never know when you'll have to bribe or con your way in or out of a situation to get your cargo delivered. May go elf, but probably human because all these skills are costly - I'm actually working on stats while my boss is at lunch

Traceur is developing into an infiltration/sniper specialist with a shotgun. Yay longarms!

I have a rough draft I'm trying to smooth out, but I'm not used to playing a character who is so fully terrible in a fight. I mean, way better jumped into a vehicle/drone, but in the meat? Anyway, you should have the character within the next 24 hours, provided I can come up with a decent name.

After coming up with some really great ones for some villains in a recent RL game I'm spent on good names...

BTW, IC posts don't have to be in order for the period before the 26th. I'm gonna throw in a few more to create background and the game's going live in about 24 hours, with as many players have sent in a character by then. I've already got an idea how to start with just a hacker and a smuggler.

Oh and Carlos is your surperior. If you're making a character with police or military background: be prepared to feel more qualified for his job.
