The elf's scream was cut short as a broadsword sliced through his upper chest, the runes of the blade glowing red through the spraying gore. Around the base of a crimson tower, other solitary adventures slaughtered the citadel guard. the dwarf pulled his broadsword free of the corpse, wiping the blade clean on the elf's cloths. Seeing that his little corner of the battlefield was empty, he began searching the corpses. Beside him, a glowing rune-circle appeared as an ork 'ported in.

"What are you doing?" asked the ork.

"It's called looting," the dwarf replied, showing a handful of gold coins into his pouch. "You should try it."

"Do you mind stepping out for a moment so we can have a real conversation?"

"Hell, no. The Fall of the Crimson Tower is in full swing. We can take the pointy-earned bot'turgma this time."

"Sorry to interrupt," the ork muttered, biting back harsher words. "Something's happened. We need to talk."

"This is as good a place as any." The dwarf switched from guttural or'zet to a language long since dead. "I'm hoping to level up, so make it quick."

"Something's been stolen from the old wyrm's vaults," the ork replied, not rising to the bait.

"I didn't do it."

The ork shook his head. "I didn't think you did, otherwise this conversation would be in person. I"ve been doing some research. I over heard Williams---"

"Who?" the dwarf interrupted.

"The Atlantean on the board of the Dunkelzahn Institute of Magical Research." The ork frowned. "I overheard Williams talking to an operative. Williams seems to have reason to believe Aztechnology was behind the theft."

"And this concerns me why?" The dwarf cocked his head, watching the shadows movements inside the tower's doors.

"Think of the ramifications."

"You haven't said what was stolen yet."

"One of the Eochair kailiu," the ork said. "I don't know what it was doing in the dragon's vaults. I'm fairly certain none of the children on the board knew its significance, though Aina might."

"You suspect her?" the dwarf picked up a rune-etched blade from a corpse, testing for balance.

"With her history---"

"I think you're jumping at shadows, old man" the dwarf said, flicking the looted sword over to the black-haired ork, who caught it easily. A new wave of slender elves emerged from the citadel, swords raised high, screaming horribly mangled Sperethiel war cries. The ork held his sword in a grip identical to the dwarf, morring his motion as they parried and slashed.

"I need help looking into the theft," the ork said, as he sliced through one citadel guard. Beside him, the dwarf decapitated a second attacker. "Someone not connected. Someone dependable."

"Not interested." More guards surrounded them, and with the economy of years of practice, the two went back-to-back, swords ready

"I didn't mean you. Her. Your...apprentice."

"Journeywoman," the dwarf grunted. "She's gone out in the world a bit. Nothing like getting a little experience under your belt. I can see if she's available. She's busy these days." the ork knocked the final guard's blade out of line and the dwarf skewered him through the heart. The dwarf flashed his companion a grin.

"Just like old times eh? Ehran?" The dwarf said. The ork just flicked a glance at the red spire, then another at the torn bodies, clad in gaudy silver armor. More citadel guards were pouring out of the respawn already.

"What is this ridiculous child's game?" he asked, disgusted, even as he readied his borrowed sword.

"Dawn of Atlantis X: City of Spires," the dwarf replied. "Game Fan's Fave Rave for eight seeks running. Jancey bough me a subscription for Christmas. Keeps my sword arm in shape."

Hello. This is a recruitment thread for a Dawn of the Artifacts: Dusk Post by Post campaign module. Dusk is the first adventure of a four part story arc in the Shadowrun cannon universe. The adventure begins in a selected city, but then will move to Lagos, Nigeria ( A area featured in the Feral Cities setting supplement). Thus far there are 3-4 potential slots for saved for this game, so I am looking for 1-2 more potential players, along with a few reserves in case people drop out of the game. The maximum PC count will be six at all times.

-It will be a 425 Build Point character creation campaign. The player also have the option of using 400 BP and 50 Karma points to spend on their characters. (Edited 9/20/09.)
-There will be a 200 Build Point Maximum allowed on Attributes, 50 Build Point Maximum on Resources (Unless you are using the Born Rich Quality), and a max availability 12 (except with restricted gear).
-SR 4th/20 Anniversary Edition rules will be utilized.
-Every character creation book and supplement is at the PC's disposal.
-Unless the character is from Lago or has spent a signfigant amount of time in the region, they are allowed a maximum of one starting contact based out of Lagos. Edited 9/20/09.
-No Vampire or Nosferatu characters - Sorry.

Dawn of the Artifacts: Dusk is an international campaign, so please create characters/use who would be willing to travel outside of their home cities to exotic and dangerous locations such as Lagos, Chicago, Denver, etc. You will be playing the roll of treasure hunters, bodyguards, and world-wide travelers in this adventure, and will have the potential to make a large sum of money for those with other motivations. I will be adding a few personal touches to the adventure module and will not be following it verbatum as it was originally written. Player characters will be expected to post every few days and a minimum of once a week, unless it is stated that they cannot for personal reasons in the OOC thread. If players do not contribute to the IC thread or communicate in the OOC thread for more then a month and do not respond to nudges then, a reserve player will take their place.

Here is a suggestion or optional plot hooks to get your characters suited for this run.

-A corporate Shadowrunner who is working with the Johnson.
-Shadowrunners who have just been on a high profile run and need to lay low or leave their city of operation for a short period of time until things cool down.
-Exotic treasure hunters/thrill seekers/ or world wide traveler.
    -Mercenaries.
    -Native Shadowrunners of Lagos.
-The job will be low-profile and will encourage the Runners to stick the Shadows.

More likely then not the runners will not have worked with each other in the past. But I will let the PC's decided if they want to be a regular team. Or at least have run into each other in the past. Here is what I need from potential PC's before being accepted and here is what I am looking for in terms of the application process.

-Character sheets under a organized and clear format, including character build point breakdown. If you are having a problem finding one, I can supply a sample.
    -A suitable character biography
-A list of answers to the 20 questions.
    -Physical Character Description.
    -Character Vignette (Optional)

Feel free to post your applications in this thread, send me a Private Message, or send them in an email to SincereAgape@hotmail.com. I'll open this thread up for questions, thank you for taking time to consider joining this PbP game. The applications will be taken at a first come first serve basis, as long as if they are quality in production.

OOC Thread

Mister Juan
I'd be very interested! Let me dig through my brain a bit and get you a character concept.
Would you prefer having a background and character description now, and sheet later if the character is picked... or the whole thing ?
SincereAgape
Hi Mister J.

A character description, background, template would be great right now. I am interested in see what type of character concepts this campaign inspires people to come up with.

In order for the application to fully go through though, I'll need the entire nine yards.

-Agape.
Mister Juan
What starting year will the game be set in?

Seeing that Chrysalis is going to play Vera, I think I'll submit Dexter Pope (Mercenary)... since they've been in an aborted game togheter wink.gif
Give me a few minutes and I'll post everything up.

I'll try to find where I stuck his 20 questions and vignette at...

Digital Heroin
I'd like to toss my hat in the ring on this one, potentially as an Adept Infiltration specialist.
Chrysalis
This'll be fun.
Karoline
Hey there, just posting to show my interest in the game. Will take a look at what others are doing and see exactly what kind of character I'd like to make.

Haven't played in a few years or so, so don't know what the 20th anniversary stuff is. Has much changed? Will I need to go find new books or are the old ones still basically okay?

Edit: I think I'll either make a sniper or a hacker... not sure which yet, or maybe I'll do both and use whichever one is better suited with everyone else.
Chrysalis
SR4A updates some things, but most books are still written for SR4.0, so go with the SR 4.0 books if you have them.

Digital Heroin
A question comes to mind: given the extra BP on creation, are you allowing some manner of initiation at build?

Edit: I ask because the character I have in mind would be served well in having Masking.
Karoline
Couple of questions.

First, if you use Restricted Gear (p 101 RC) to get a weapon over rating 12, can you also get a modification for that weapon under the same quality? Ceramic Plasteel components (p 149 Arsenal) is what I'm looking at in particular. Or would this require a separate Restricted Gear quality?

Second, which 20 questions are you talking about? Only questions I remember are the ones in RC.
Digital Heroin
I need to revise one thing about my concept. Mystical Adept is the way I'm planning on going with 'im, or 'er (haven't decided on the gender yet).

Karoline: From experience, the Runner's Companion questions are usually good enough to present a character to a GM you're courting here on the boards. If you're feeling extra wacky, check under the spoiler in Mister Juan's last post for the expanded question list. Oh, and welcome to the boards!

My 20 Qs:

[ Spoiler ]
SincereAgape
Hi guys,

@Mister J. Game time will be the first week of February in 2072. The Pope looks very good. Having a grizzled ex-military war veteran who acts as a bully, but really cares about his partners seems like a solid dynamic. He reminds me of Jet Black on bi-polar disorder. (Be prepared for a decent amount of Cowboy Bebop References). Looking forward to the character sheet.

@Digital Horizon. Would love to have you. Are there official rules for converting BP into Karma in RC, Street Magic, etc (Sadly, don't own that book, but do have access to it through friends). If not, I am thinking about implementing a house rule. Ten Build Points to initiate, with a maximum of one initiation ranking at character creation.

@Karoline. Welcome to the boards! As Chrysalis stated, 4.0 works just as well. You can find the changes made in SR 4.5 in this link. SR 4.5 Conversions.

If it's a modification for the same weapon, then it shouldn't be a problem. Tomorrow night I'll check up on Ceramic Plasteel components through a friend's copy of Arsenal, then give you a final confirmation via PM. But as of now, throw it into your build. (Kid Stealth anyone? )

@Chrysalis. Thanks for the help thus far Laurie. Sent you some feedback/tweaking for Vera through email. But overall she looks great.
Digital Heroin
There's no official ruling iirc, I've only ever seen it houseruled. I'll got with the 10BP unless something else is ruled. Working on my shade right now...
pbangarth
I've seen several entries in Dumpshock in which people have reversed the cost of nullifying a Negative Quality or buying a Positive Quality to apply to spending Karma at chargen. So, a 2 Karma to 1 BP ratio is used. Then, spending 13 Karma on an Initiation at chargen costs 7 BP ( rounded up).
Mister Juan
@SincereAgape
I'll start working on Dexter's new CS tonight. Should probably be done around the wee hours of the morning.
Out of curiosity, do you use any houserules concerning contacts? And what is your general feeling toward the Gauss Rifle (it makes me all warm inside every single I see it... but I never get to use it in ANY game nyahnyah.gif)
pbangarth
Gauss Rifle? What the hell are we getting into?

Fun stuff. Don't worry though, that little toy won't match my weapon devil.gif
Mister Juan
Ever since I've seen the stats, I've been CRAVING for an excuse to use it in a game.
I personally see it as the ultimate anti material rifle. I wouldnt shoot people with it.... well.... maybe if they were like... behind a brick wall nyahnyah.gif
SincereAgape
@Mister J. Sorry. Even though it fits with the character of Pope, availability of 12 is the maximum. Also, getting that into Lagos will be tough. Once inside the country though, there is a possibility of getting it, but it will be hard to get.

Contacts will have to be bought using build points, unless you do not have any. Then you will get a contact with a rating of 1 loyalty and 2 connection. That being said, unless you are a local of Lagos or have traveled there somewhere in your character biography then the maximum number of contacts you can have in Lagos will be one. And with that one, there has to be a short story behind it.

@Digital Horizon. Go with the 7 BP. The 2 Karma to One BP is a good ratio, but the cap on this will be 25 BP spent for a maximum of 50 Karma. This represents the extra 25 BP when compared to the normal 400 BP character.

Edited. Added the comment to @Digital Horizon.
Digital Heroin
Sweet, the 2-1 works out quite well. I didn't actually plan on initiating past that first grade, mind you.

I was thinking about Lagos, and about ties with my character, but I'm thinking if anything he knows someone who moved there, rather than having been there himself. Keeps his experience there fresh, but gives him someone with a little pull. Mind you I'm going contact light for this guy in the first place.

Mr. J - So I'm not the only one who's been salivating over the Guass Rifle, eh... gods that such a nice piece of hardware.

The simple fact it pretty much halves ALL armor before even applying AP..... It can literally shoot at anything through anything!

SincereAgape, are you suggesting up to 50 Karma worth of Initiating could be done? That would allow 3 grades of Initiation. Are you sure about that?
SincereAgape
@Pete,
Yep, already thought about that. In post 18 of this thread it states in the section to @Digital Horizon, that the maximum initiate grade one character can take at creation for this module will be one.

To make thing clear, because this effects the other PCs as well. PC's are allowed to use a combination of 400 BP plus 50 Karma Points instead of a 425 BP character creation module. The extra 25 BP or 50 Karma represents that the Shadowrunners have experience in the Shadows and a decent amount of street credibility.

If this done, please mark where the karma is being used in the characater build breakdown on the character sheet.

@Mister J and Digital. If you guys really want to use a Gauss Rifle, I should consider throwing in a random Azzie tank encounter somewhere down the line smile.gif
pbangarth
OK, thanks! It's clear even to me now. The underlining really helped!
DigitalOYABUN
I know I'm a newcomer to the forums, but have room for another? I was thinking a completely vanilla Merc, ie no cyberware or magic. Just skill and attributes (yes a smartlink and other tech, but no cyberware per say.) like the original Merc from 1st edition.

Hope I can get some AV ammo by then.

BTW where does it say anything about the gauss rifle halving the armor of the opponent before applying anything else?
Chrysalis
I am not so worried about the tank, it's the truck load of azzie soldiers coming up through the jungle that worries me.

It all depends on engagement distance and prep time. If both are decently large... well that is when a sniper really earns her keep smile.gif

Hi guys. Loving the enthusiam. Once all of the applications are in, looking forward to seeing how everyone plays off each other in the OOC thread.

@Digital Oyabun - Looks like we're going to be filled on regular PCs. I can place you on the reserve list in case someone does drop out before the game starts or during the game itself. Keep the Vanilla Merc idea in mind. By the way, welcome to Dumpshock!

@Everyone. For the record. Seattle, Lagos, and the rest of the world wil be suffering from a shortage of Gauss Rifles. Thus the only one to obtain one in the campaign will be to pry it from the cold fingers of ONE of the Aztechnology Cyberzombies. rotfl.gif

I guess thats a sign to stock up on APDS.
SincereAgape
One more thing. The reasoning behind the maximum of one Lagos based contacts for non-residents is because I want Lago to be a foreign enviorment full of danger for the PCs. One where they have no friends, no allies, and are constatly having to think who their enemies are. You are the white devil, in place where there is very little concept of civilized law. This place is hostile, and everyone has the potential to be an antoganist, even women and children.
Chrysalis
That's why hiring a local is so important. Like anywhere in teh world.

If I get rid of my car and bump my lifestyle to high. What does a high lifestyle include?

Fine by me, I'll keep my sniper rifle. Much more effective against not tanks.... also slightly less conspicuous. Not to mention trying to find ammo for the thing

I bet it includes water smile.gif And likely some kind of car come to think of it (Transportation is a part of lifestyle)

@Everyone. Hi guys. I was just kidding about this post. The tough thing about the internet is that you can't type tone of voice. Write it off as random GM humor. To address the Guass Rifle once and for all. Sadly, you cannot start off with one. However, there is a possibility to purchse one during the game, and there will be a few scenes to use it.

@Chrysalis. It means a luxury apartment in Downtown Seattle, top designer clothing of any fashion, five star dining, and the ability to rent cars and private jets via credit card. After reading Vera, perhaps you can attribute this lifestyle to her many clients in the corporate world. Hope this helps.

@Karoline. That was very well done. The Vignette had me glued to the computer screen. I assume she has a "Deep Cover" or "Amnesia" quality from RC? Question: Do you have her past all planned out, or did you want me to come up with ideas for your character?

@Mister J. Received your character sheet! After a first review, it looks good! I'll give it a final look through tonight.
Karoline
Hehe, glad you enjoyed it. I have the past planned out, I'll send you the story in a PM later, in the meantime Char sheet is coming at you... just want to add some DPs to the end so you have an idea of strength. I can play around with stuff a bit more if it seems overly tweeked or anything....

Edit: Oh, out of curiosity, is there anywhere where it talks about age modifications and such?
DigitalOYABUN
Yes, please add me to the reserve list. I look forward to following the game at any rate.
Karoline
The following was posted onto the matrix on January 29, 2072. The document was attributed to Ares, who of course denied all knowledge of it instantly. A brief flash fire of public interest surrounded the document, but many are prone to believe it is simply slandering by a rival company. Those in the know however recognize the coding used as Ares' style.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the post in which this document was released onto the net, was the closing....
