... And all was right with the world.
Paul
So is that for real? Please say yes!
fistandantilus4.0
Yes.

About two months ago, at ComicCon here in San Diego, my wife and I got signed up to do a focus group. Turns out it was a focus group to see what we thought of the new trailer, as well as the various concept art for the movie poster. We were there maybe two hours with a bunch of other people BSing about the first one and what they were going to do with the second. The only thing that had me a little worried were the words "limited release". But we'll see.

They'd discussed having the release on St. Patty's day, but we booed that down as taking too long. But we did suggest St. Pattys for the DVD release ... with shot glasses or steins in lieu of book ends. wink.gif

Then we went down to a bar in downtown here called the Tilted Kilt and met Patrick Duffy, Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flannery, and Billy Connolly (who talksjust like that. THe two "brothers" were drinking Coronas though. Dissapointing in a scottish pub. But we got an autographed movie poster out of it.

So Yes, it's real. smile.gif

As much as I hate to say it, BDS2 won't be that great. Without Willem Dafoe it's going to lack a lot of what made the first really awesome.

I'd be a lot more excited about it if Troy Duffy didn't seem like such a douchebag in everything I've ever read, seen, or heard about him. I enjoyed the film -- and Sean Patrick Flannery is actually one of my favorite actors, for what that's worth -- but I just can't manage to be very energetic about the sequel.

Yeah but he was a douchebag when the first one was made and it was still great.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I hope this film dies in a fire (not really). I used to be a fan of the first film until I made the mistake of finding the Boondock Saints forums to find other fans of the film. Completely changed my viewpoint on the film, effectively ruined it for me - sorta like going to watch a movie with a bunch of adolescent males in attendance who are doing their awkward best to "impress" each other and any girls present. Seriously, it was like Troy Duffy had cloned himself over and over, then made a forum dedicated to worshiping himself. It was almost on par with /b-tards.

So, when I see threads like this, I try to warn other people to steer clear of all things Boondock for their own sanity.

I'm just going to enjoy the movie regardless of the way others may think/act/ruin the internet.

But seriously - I'm looking forward to this. I had a dwarf character in 3rd edition I kinda modeled after them. that was fun to do for a while smile.gif

sounds like just about every group of people unsure of their own gender, and using pop culture to reinforce themselves to me, but then i may be old and tired of the monkey cage politics that seems to be on the permanent rise these days...

Nah, you have to realize that Willem Dafoe's character was the main character of the film, regardless of how much screen time was occupied by the McManus brothers. It was Agent Smecker who faced the moral dilemma of the McManus brother's actions realizing that they were able to do what he couldn't. Only through the final actions of Agent Smecker does the McManus's actions finally become validated. Without the Smecker character, the film would have been nothing but an alter to senseless violence.

[tactless sarcasm]
Wait, so let me make sure I've got this straight. You found people on the internet that were acting like complete ass hats? That happens?! Sorry, I'm having a hard time processing that. It's just so foerign to my world view.[/tactless sarcasm]

Seriously, who gives a flying fuck about some jackasses that shop at Hot Topic? Like the movie or don't, that's all well and good. But hate for your own reasons to hate.

Hmm, I think I might have just channeled Doc Funk. I might need to go lay down for a while...

Disclaimer: This poster neither claims nor denies any prejudicial feelings towards the mallrat-poser monument to commercialist hypocrisy that is Hot Topic. It's not like the mere sight of the store pisses me right the fuck off or causes me to spout out randomly slected angry but long buzz words or anything.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
CanadianWolverine
Fine, don't believe me, just please don't blame me for mental anguish if you google "Official Boondock Saints", find http://www.boondocksaints.com/ at the top and then proceed to follow the link to the forums, where I presume you will read and post.

If you still consider yourself a fan of Troy Duffy's work after that, well, I don't really want to know about it seeing as I have already been down that road and it led there.

I am also the kind of guy that if I had come by Dumpshock forums and found a bunch of asshats rather than the warm welcome for a newbie I did find, I would have probably signed off on the idea of ever having any fun socially with Shadowrun as well. Fans do make a difference, just not always a positive one. Thankfully, Dumpshock has been a positive experience and gives me hope for this IP. I hope that makes some sense.

Canada, while I'm glad that DS has been good to you (even with me going off on random rants), I'd hope that people here being ass hats wouldn't ruin SR for you. With shadowrun especially, the game is what you make it.

But I do get what you're saying. I had this problem with baby names. There were a lot of perfectly viable, even good baby names that I just couldn't consider becuase I knew some jack ass by that name that was , well, a jack ass. So I do understand how a bad experience can sour something. I wouldn't consider my self a Troy Duffy fan though. Boondock Saints is the only thinkg I know of that he's done, and I have no inclination to look deeper. I literally ran into the guy and didn't know who he was. That being said, I still love the first movie, and hope the second one is as good. Maybe with a dash of hoping the guy learned something from making the first movie , and stopped being an ass the second time around. Even though I have very little faith in the common man, I'm still optimistic about their chances in life.
CanadianWolverine
I get that. I also hope that for Troy Duffy, as I would anyone that mistakes can be learned from and not repeated.

And just let me clarify aka be as clear as possible: to date there has been a distinct lack of asshattery (hehe, funny made up word) on Dumpshock, so big kudos on this community.

I am also glad you understand where I am coming from with regards to the movie in question, the movie may very well turn out to be plenty of cinematic fun, just as the first one is and was for me.

Here, I thought of a semi-funny saying to further express my feelings on Boondock Saints:
"When someone tells you that a movie is a cult hit, you don't actually expect to find a cult!" wink.gif nyahnyah.gif

Luckily, I have been well versed in the wonders of the man with the chin. Dare I say it? Bruce Campbell vs Army of Darkness, one of the best schlocky movies of all time, "Shop smart, shop S-Mart."Which reminds me, I should make up a character with a cyberarm chainsaw for a hand... grinbig.gif
