Full Version: Looking for some gaming guys to balance out m/f ratio for a forum game

Alright lemmi explain. A while back my jaded heart started running forum games other than Shadowrun.

Currently I'm running a survival horrer based game. It's got about 800 posts already, but the guy/girl player ratio is tilting too far to the feminine side, and I find things work best when that is fairly balanced.

I think the guys on the board are also having some trouble with there being risk involved and a dice mechanic hiding behind the scenes.

I'm guessing the runners on this board should fare much better.

Anyway again the setting is survival horrer where the players are "regular" people, and so are prone to dying (though death isn't the end).

There is quite a range of personalities in the current players. But I'll post a couple of the pics the girls used in their character sheets to give you an idea.

Anyway in a past game I'd brought over some dumpshockers and that went well (especially with InfinitZen), so I'm hopeful this time around.

Lemmi know if you're interested.

EDIT: Before I offend anybody, I'm not trying to exclude or be mean to female dumpshockers or something. You're welcome too. It's just I don't think there are many (any?) female dumpshockers.

Why does this thread seem familiar....

I think I remember reading another thread where someone was playing a forum game that had too many females and came here recruiting.

That was me. I mention it in my post above. I picked up InfinitZen and a couple others. They seemed to have a good time.

But after something like 4500 posts that game completed.

This is a different one, but I'm having a similar issue, and I'm hoping some dumpshockers are up for a good time.

(In case it isn't clear, these games aren't meant to go indefinitly, they operate on a full story with a beginning and eventually an end).

I'm reading this on a cell so I may have missed it but did you put what system your using or should I have assumed your using SR4?
sunnyside
No. I do GM Shadowrun, but this is based on a much much simpler homebrew system.

I think we had a thread in the other board some time back about bringing new people and demographics into role playing. While a game like this could be done with SR4 mechanics, I think it would make for a hard barrier of entry for a lot of people, especially some of the young ladies who are completely new to role playing games, and who couldn't simply be loaned the books.

I looked at the pictures. Having someone who looks like that in a survival horror game seems like comedy theater. Especially if some guy joins up and plays Rambo.

Heh. That's an awsome find!

As for the girls, they make it fun. Bug City is still one of my favorite SR products, but survival horrer doesn't really work in SR in my experience. Or rather it turns into action, because runners tend to be whirlwinds of death even if you try and take away their toys, and even if you throw enough stuff at them to kill them they don't scare.

But yes, you're welcome to join up with a character who would like to think he's rambo, but the "power level" of the characters is rather less than the 400+BP sort of char you're used to.

Ah, the days of Call of Cthulhu... when the game was a race to see which came to your character first, death or insanity.

I remember the PC I was given in a RPGA game who had a phobia about cats. An hour into the game I noticed the player in the seat beside me had cat earrings. IT WAS AWESOME!

You can make it role playing after the fact by playing this music after the firefight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfYJKpLX1xw

EDIT: That makes it deep.

How can this forum not have a facepalm smiley nyahnyah.gif

Still, for that you'd ideally have some lady that they're missing. The bimbo they put in their backstory probalby isn't going to cut it, in part because the typical runner will have had her killed off before she even got out of the backstory nyahnyah.gif
