do you add specializations before or after split pools? like say for sake of example:
agi 4 pistols 4 specialization: ares predator 4
he has ambidex and splits his pool is it
5 for one and 5 for the other or
4 for one and 5 for the other
Dv84good
Where does the 4 on the ares predator come from
Rooks
Specialisation Ares Predator IV
Vaevictis
I'm pretty sure he's referring to the Ares Predator Model (remember, they have I, II, III and IV as Ares Predator models)
Jaid
it never says you must split your pool evenly anyways.

But you should roll a total 10 dice, either way.

Hey, I have just become a "moving target." Lucky me!

Altough i must admit i don't see the problem: you add the specialisation before splitting, so 5/5 would be a valid answer.

Specialisation would not be ares predator IV, but semiautomatic pistols, which is much more usefull ...

In SR4, you don't specialize in a specific weapon anymore.

whats more likely to see, is skill 5, specialized, with agility 7. 12 dice, 14 within your specialization. with ambidex, it 7/7. without, its 6/6. specilization will usualy be semi-automatics.

also, you split pool before modifiers, so aiming wont help- if your at long range, either spend 2 simple actions before you shoot, or else its -2 to each pool.

it dosent have to be pistols though.. you could get two ingram smartgun X's, and burst with both guns.

Since the character's dice pool is split when he's using a second firearm and the dice pool includes all the dice rolled in the test (see p. 54, SR4), specialization and all other modifiers are included before the split.

I'd say this depends upon the group/powerlevel you're playing with... wink.gif

That will get you in trouble when trying to calculate dice for two weapons with different net recoil.

Why should it?

Uncompensated recoil of one weapon also applies to the other one...

But while I was looking after the rules due to your post, I found the passage that I think troubled Rooks in the beginning:
QUOTE ('SR4 @ p. 141')
Attacker Using a Second Firearm
[...] Split the pool before applying modifiers. [...]

Since dice pools usually include the modifiers appropriate to the test (see Dice Pools, p. 54, SR4) and the use of a second firearm is listed as Ranged Attack Modifier, I'd include "personal modifiers" like a specialization before the split and only other Ranged Combat Modifiers after it.

Sure, it wouldn't be really a problem - it just would allow to reduce recoil of one weapon.

But, since that's not how the rules work, it's a moot point, anyway.

As a sidenote: starting a named quote with a - totally ticks off the parser.
