You didn't miss it, it isn't stated in the BBB. At least a search of the PDF (and the Street Magic PDF) shows nothing useful.

don't think the second crash was a major 'killer' though was it.
Anyone know if any of the later splatbooks (YotC, SOTA, etc) give any population figures.

In general, the purpose of the plagues and such has been to keep the 2050-'70 population approximately equal to the 1989-2006 population. So I'd guess 6.5 billion in 2071.
