Full Version: CharGen Program Output?

Does the CharGen XL program (most recently modded by blakkie) have a way to print record sheets off of the XL file? I'm a bit of an XL Newb so if it's not obvious, I'll need help knowing how to do that.

If NOT, can we get an XL wizard to whip that up? nyahnyah.gif

Thanks!

I get the impression that it is formatted to print the page you're looking at, you just click print. I checked out each worksheet and the print preview appears to be a pretty workable minimum sheet.

Make sure when printing in excel that you select a specific area to print, and print each page individually. Otherwise you'll end up with it spreadiing over 4 pages because it prints an extra column of crap.

Yeah, I get it to print that. But there's info on all four sheets that could be combined into 2 fairly nicely if someone knew how to do it.

I guess I'm thinking of how HeroForge produces a NICE character sheet for Dungeons and Dragons 3.5. And HeroForge is a very similar XL file.

Silly question, but where can I get that program? I couldn't find any thread discussing it other than this one. frown.gif

I think this is the thread you are looking for. There are quite a few different programs discussed in the Community Projects section.

...the Wizdoc.XLS CG does generate a character sheet that is three pages. Still it is only good for the character's first run since it doesn't have a "finalize" option to allow for character improvement using karma.

However, check the Community Projects forum. There is a new SR4 Chargen in the works that looks like it will be very similar to the old NSRCG.

I never thought about searching other parts of Dumpshock. I just assumed that SR4 chargen systems would be in the SR4 forum as it is edition-specific. Thanks a lot, Fortune and Kyoto Kid! biggrin.gif

It was mentioned here when it was last updated, and I've got a link in my sig. But any posts here scroll by real fast.

As for printing it should have the Print Area set for all the pages with it set to resize to print each sheet to fit 1 page. So at least 1 sheet doesn't sprawl to several. It'd be great if someone added a macro to populate one that editable PDF version has or something. But I don't really have the time for that myself. The reason it is designed the way it is is because....well I don't know since I didn't initiate it, but I find that splitting it up the sheets the way it is makes finding the parts to quickly build a certain type of character easy to find. Plus you don't have to scroll at all to find anything (dependant of your screen resolution obviously, but I don't think even an 800x600 sceen has to scroll except maybe for cyberlimbs).

What I do personally is either go with the 3 or sometimes 4 pages of printout (I very rarely use the cyberlimbs sheet), or occationally 2 pages. Or I just transcribe straight from the screen to a character sheet of choice, because it isn't really built to maintain the character after creation. It is built for speed of character creation. I have at times print using a PDF File creating driver and then patchworked together a 2 page version from there, but I like to use my sheet for scribbling in the margins so I find the extra space handy. wink.gif

Incidentally I had expected that XLS sheet to be defunct by now, replaced by a dedicated character generator. But I find myself still using it because it's really straightforward in showing the options you have. Which is why it was update to Street Magic. I see on the community board there is a project in the works for full on SR4 character generator like McMakie's SR3 version, complete with customizable output format. I hope that works out, although if I find my Clout sub-system house rules working well and they don't support it (completely understandable) I might not use it right away. SR4Chargen is still really fast.
