Hey all!
I have decided to try this on-line game thing. I am looking for 4 players minimum. I have 2 slots reserved at the moment. One for Blitz and Fenris. I will probably cap at 6 tops, assuming I get some compelling submissions.
So here's the breakdown. Build characters with 125 BPs please. I allow a maximum of 5 edges and 5 flaws with a net difference of 5 points max. I have the same needs you have probably read a million times. Backgrounds with well thought out concepts, don't cripple your character with excessive flaws, build characters that have some reason to work in a co-operative manner, and be mature. After you have built your character you get 100 karma to improve them. I want veterans of the shadow world. You will also receive an addtional 500,000 nuyen to spend after the character has been finalized. This extra gear is subject to street index and ratings. Don't get too out there with gear please (4 cases of APDS, etc), I want to keep a gritty feel to the game. I am open to anything cannon to the SR world (changelings, ghouls, meta-variants, etc). I will need a copy of your characters for reference, send them to the email attached to my id here. I will need to know when you would be posting. I want to set a schedule everyday to move the game forward. It seems on-line games move so slowly and people lose interest as they drag on. I want to try to avoid that by having a daily GM nudge to the timeline/events.
The game will be very magic and metahuman focused. So if you are playing a mundane character, make sure you have some background in magic-related skills. You will be hired as part of a team to deal with a upcoming threat to the city of Seattle. You do not need to do-gooders for this run but it wouldn't hurt. I plan to send out regular files to you all with maps, extra info, etc. I have no life right now so feast on my boredom.
I am certain there will be questions about things I have forgotten to mention so let them fly.

Oh man, I just got an idea to bring an old character of mine back into play. He is a Ork physad named Paladin. He has lots of contact with the Ork Underground and a rep on the street for being a good guy, but not the type that is a pansey, just someone people respect.

A few yeah. I tend to look at who is playing in a game and deside to join from there. When he dropped your name, I desided to join up, cause I like your RP style. Lately a bunch of the games I'm in have dropped off anyways. I've only got like 4 or 5 active games now.

Ok, fixed the email issue now it will be there for you to send to. I do favor roleplaying over rollplaying. But I also know nothing beats the thrill of throwing a handful of dice.

I will let people roll their own rolls unless things start to look fishy (OH WOW!! all 6's again). I will have an IC and OOC thread, so just let me know what you're rolling and for what. I am very open to complimentary skill rolls, if you think it would apply run it past me. I am a co-operative GM, no me against you business. That is all for now.

*twitch, twitch* Sooo have a concept... may be a touch at odds with the other characters, but only verbally, well, unless they happen to be Toxic... thinking a mundane, resistant to magic himself, hunts out Toxic and Blood... possibly an Amerind, very likely to be metahuman... will flesh out the idea on paper, then submit a character...
There any prefered method of sheetage? I tend to write mine in a text format, because my two systems have different setups editing-wise, and the NSRCG doesn't have the book feel... also, SURGE a yes, or a no?

Send me a snap shot of the character after the first build, then one with the improvements with the 100 karma. As far as formats should be ok. If I have any problems with them I will get back to you. It's open submissions. I will look over what I get and pick to build the best fit possible.

Yes but you need to build them like Magic in the Shadows, with strictures, etc. You will also need to populate your magic group with NPCs. Run them by me and I will look them over, I reserve the right to alter them or veto them altogether. If you want a hint to make them more agreeable to me, make them with some sort of roleplaying flavor. I see magic groups as something more than "get more powerful quick" meetings once a month. Sharing magic is very intimate act amongst a group of eccentric individuals. Some examples of ones I have created or my players have that I liked.
Keepers of Life: All shaman group that swore a vow to preserve innocent life and promote the natural world.
The Inquisitors: A group devoted to the study of deeper mysteries and ancient magics.
Five Sacred Mountains: A group of ghoul adepts that served Su Chang, Incense Master of the Yellow Lotus Triad.

The more the merrier. I may not be able to accommodate everyone depending on how many submissions I get. I have no problem with people new to the system. I have 2 semi-veterans (Fenris & Blitz) so I will have more than enough time free to answer questions and help out when needed.

History
Asset DC598 always loved his job. He was cold, calculating, and fast. He was the best assassin Ares had. Then they sent him someplace he wouldn’t ever return from.
The job was a simple one. There was some leader down in the Orc Underground, some modern day MLK, was causing problems. He kept claiming that Ares was a racist company and in return, Ares wanted him eliminated. Being that Asset DC598 was an Orc, he seemed the perfect assassin to go into the Underground. That was their mistake. Asset DC598 tracked the leader’s every move for a month. Also during that time, he heard every speech and message the orc leader had to give. It spoke to Asset DC598, the message reached him, down to his soul, and told him that what he was doing was wrong.
Asset DC598 went AWOL. He left his old life of assassination behind him and decided to take the high road. He used his time and skills to help those who couldn’t help themselves. He went to O.R.C. demonstrations and stood up for the rights of his people. He was doing what was right and with his old life dead, so was his name. Now he was Paladin.

The Sons of Liberty started back around the same time that the Orc Underground did. Not many people know that it exists and those that do, know to keep it secret. The Sons of Liberty take members from all types of awakened people, be they Mage, Shaman, or Adept. They all have their oath binding them to the goal of the group, to serve and protect the Orc Underground.

Sticky one that. In the past I have allowed it in on-going games with the house rule of only being able to cash/karma up to half the reward given. You get 4 karma you can cash/karma for 2. With this game I am going to say not with the intial build but as the game goes forward you can with rewards given out. Just make sure you track it since it doesn't add to karma pool and you will need to provide an in-game mechanic for it as well. Playing the ponies for karma for cash. Buying and studying ancient tomes on magic for cash for karma.

How'd you want to handle gaining contacts? Can we buy them out of the 500,000? and if so do they have a street index? *8-> char sheets nearly finished just got 200k to spend and I've only bought one thing with it so far *8->

Pay the same cost as char gen for contacts. Make sure you give them some personality. It makes my job easier if they have depth and details so I know how to run them during interactions. I want to stress I don't want paper golems who have received a booster shot of karma and cash. I want chars with history and content, same with contacts and magic groups. No one has been doing that I just wanted to put it out there.

History:
Born in the slums of Redmond to a whore and an unknown father, Helen's early life was not likely to be a good. Especially when it was noticed early on that she was a very pretty child and would probably grow up to be an extremely beautiful woman. This certainly didn't get missed by her mother's pimp and he eagerly awaited her reaching pubity.
When that day came he tried to take her away, but then fate intervened and her magical powers awakened. Terrified and upset she lashed out not knowing what she did and lashes of raw magic raged in the room killing the pimp and her mother. Coming out of the rage and terror and finding the horror of her actions left her fleeing and promising to never take another life.
Somehow during the next four years she avoided the pitfalls that could befall a beautiful woman living in the barrens and after a while she gained protection from most of the inhabitants. This was due to her constantly helping anyone who needed it, ganger, squatter it mattered not although she did generally manage to extract promises that the patient would try not to hurt anyone for at least a week in payment.
Her entry to the shadows was a violent one and also not an expected one. She was out on a normal patrol around the city when a fire fight broke out between a group of runners and some security guards. Before she had a chance to get to cover, she felt as though a hammer had hit her shoulder and she was thrown to the ground. It could have all ended there if it weren't for one of the runners who saw her fall and took her with the group as they left.
When she came round he was still there waiting for her to awaken. Looking up at the elven face by her bed she felt her totem push her mentally towards him and even though he was a cybered mundane over time their feeling grew. For the next year she ran with Ghost's group on many occasions and she mothered them all evenly. Even while she was busy with other things she still always spent at least a day a week in the Barrens looking after the citizens and now that she was gaining a hefty income she started to expand the care she gave. Setting up a clinic and when she found some like minded awakened people found a group to help out however they could.
The only bone of contention within the relationship between Harlot and Ghost was that he thought she was wasting her time with the Barrens people and she thought he'd polluted his body with metal but over time it became more of a joke between them than any real problem.
Magical Group: The Shield of the Weak
Type: Dedicated (Protection and care of the defenceless of Seattle, mainly Redmond at the current group size)
Strictures:
Attendance (every month), Belief (To protect and care for the defenceless), Deed, Fraternity, Obedience, Sacrifice, Material Link.
Customs:
Spend at least 1 day a week of downtime tending to the masses. To protect the weak when possible.
Resources: High (50% of dues paid by Harlot)
Members: 5 (Sam a human grade 2 Snake Shaman, Darina an elven grade 1 hermetic, Corus an orc rat shaman, Jason a human amerindian Buffalo shaman, Quicksilver a troll hermetic)
Headquarters: Redmond Barrens apartment block that is converted to act as a clinic and is open to people to stay at. Most of the magical resources not normally needed for day-to-day care of patients are stored at Harlot and the various members houses for safe keeping (They maybe out to help people but their not stupid).
Hopefully that's okay if you got any questions or need me to re-write it gimme a yell Buddha. I think it came out faaaar to sickly sweet but it wasn't meant to be... well not too much. She basically a nice person but certainly not a saint. *8-> Oh and the character sheet should be winging it's way to you now *8->

Here's a character idea I had for a while. I'll have to upgrade the guy with the karma and cash, but here's the basic rundown. Name: Mackie Lane. STreet name: Expediter.

Mackie Lane's is a story of the best of intentions leading one astray.
He was a smart and athletic kid (athletic even for an ork) who was fast tracked through high school and given a football scholarship to the University of Seattle on a racial program designed for shorter lived orks. He was the perfect candidate. He was smart but not too smart, he was an athletic prodigy and he was easy on the eyes.
He took metahuman studies, sort of like women's studies but geared toward a different "minority." He quarterbacked the football team, too. He played the guitar at the occasional event to make some extra cash. He also caught the eye of Professor Deerman. He was invited to attend the Twillight Club by the good professor, a group of orks that gathered to talk about their slant on metahuman issues, as well as socialize. The professor taught him the basics of the orkish language, which he himself had learned from Robert Page. THE Robert Page of Dunkelzahn's will (PG 32 of that supplement, 3rd paragraph).
He also managed to get some "under the table" work in the campus night club as a bouncer and took a course to become an armed security guard which Professor Deerman arranged for him. He was now a licensed "Armed bouncer" at an off campus nightclub. He was 17 now, so he was old enough to carry weapons.
One night at the club there was an altercation when two inebriated young punks harassed an attractive young woman. In order to break up the scene he had to hurt the two pretty badly and he broke the hip of one of them. The punk's father was on the scholarship board and arranged for Mackie's to be cancelled and for the young ork to be blackballed. However, the universe decided to manifest balance at the same time. The woman he'd helped was one Michaela O'Connaughy, an agent who was taking a night off. She gave him her card and said she owed him a favour.
He called in that favour pretty quick. He was booted from campus and had no place to live. His family's house was over crowded with orks of several generations. He needed money. She arranged for him to get a job at the Skeleton in Redmond...a hot night club where young and bleeding edge bands play, hoping to get noticed. Every agency had talent scouts there. Now he was an armed bouncer in a drek hot night club 2 nights a week. He even filled in for guitarists on the rare occasion when they became unavailable. He found a small studio apartment to rent and became a resident of the barrens.
He started to take "after hours" work, taking bonuses from the manager for "teaching a lesson to the idiots who start trouble in my club!" Oddly enough, the subjects were almost always human. He took the work to pay the bills, but unless the guy really torqued him off, he left the "idiots" with mere bruises. However, it was also his first step toward the shadows.
Soon he was being hired for other types of shadow work instead of legbreaking. He started to build up a small reputation and would be attatched to the occasional team that needed some extra muscle. He used the social skills he aquired as a member of the Twillight Club, getting them up to the level of basic competance. Now he's ready finally mada a name for himself...a small reputation but enough to build on. He tends to get hired to fill in where needed and has managed to earn a nickname...Expediter. He's known for keeping a cool head and his eye on the ball. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty to get the job done.

When I have selected the players/characters for the game I will need those people to let me know what time they usually post. I will pick a time to move the timeline forward everyday that will give everyone the chance to post. I need a completed copy of your character for me to reference.
I am fine with people doing their own rolls unless it starts to look fishy. Just let me know what skill and any pools you are using. I may apply modifiers if needed. The OOC thread will be for rolling and admin stuff. I will send out emails with maps or personal side stuff that people take away from the public eye from time to time. I will let you all know when karma pools refresh and give out karma rewards based on chapters in the game.
Was there something more specific you wanted to know about?

Hmmm...my Red Dice of Doom™ tend to roll pretty good (as a few here will agree I'm sure). I tend to get at least one 7+ on rolls of 5 dice or more, usually 2. Would you prefer I use the dice roller that comes with the NSRCG?

Was thinking of changing characters. 6 person group with 5 magic types and 1 sammie type just doesn't jive well with me. Was thinking rigger with some security skills.
