[[SHADOWLANDS:CLASSIFIEDS:CONTRACTORS(OTHER):"AQUADOME MANAHAZARD SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM NEEDED"]]

A friend of mine just lost contact. He was staying at his aquadome in the Caribbean around 17°N, 68°W. Be able to dive, be prepared for a manahazardous environment with potential for hostile Awakened encounters. Ability to pilot a submarine a plus, teams welcome. Position requires 400 BP or equivalent Karma build, may make exception for talented beginner. Offers full medical benefits, and 20,000 nuyen.gif at completion. Post with resume or to enquire for more detail.

Simon Kerimov

I'll use this color to say things that are out of character. If you would try to get in the habit as well, it will keep us from having to use multiple threads for communication.

I'm just gonna throw this out there...how do you feel about pixies?
Propaganda
Ooh, boats! I'm interested.

Sounds cool. Let me get my resume together and post it.

As long as there is nothing inherent to your metatype that makes a manahazardous environment impossible to survive, I am an equal opportunity employer.

Feel free to make any legal character type on 400 BP or 750 Karma.
Combat Mage
I'm thinking of making a Shapeshifter Unarmed Adept (probaby Seal or Shark). What rules do you set for Karma generation considering Karma cost for race and for attributes (x5 I presume?)

Also I would highly recommend starting a new thread for the game itself after recruiting is over to keep things organized.
augmentin
Also, could you please clarify "manahazard."

Hired.

A few things to clear up with Ben before play starts: Mystical Adept costs [10] BP, you paid [15]. You paid [80] BP for your skills, but spent only [68]. You should have a total of [17] BP left to spend. If you could give me the reference for the Hose spell and the Heightened Concentration Adept Power, as I can't find them, that would be great.

The rules for Karma builds and race/attributes are to not pay anything for your metatype, start out with the bonus stats (for instance the Seal shapeshifter starts with a BOD of 4), then you can spend up to half of your Karma plus twice the BP cost of your metatype on attributes. In this case, a Seal starting at 740 Karma can spend up to 375+(2*70)=505 Karma on stats at character gen. The Seal example would start with BOD 4, and would pay 15 Karma for the first extra point of BOD, then 18, 21, etc. The relevant text is in Runners Companion page 42.

We will start a new thread once the game starts, but I'd rather only have one thread with the blue comments than two threads for rolls and whatnot. More than one thread makes for much confusion.

I'm afraid that "manahazard" is most of the information I have. My friend was fairly closed mouthed about what he was up to in his aquadome, but I know it was magical in some way or another. Thus the generous payment.

Thanks for the reference. What, might I ask, is the Digital Grimoire? I've never heard of it. If it's published by Catalyst it's fair game, I just need to go get it.
No problem with the typo's, I just thought you'd want the extra BPs if they were there.

As far as the game breaking part with Karma gen, yes it does apply. Just keep in mind that the costs get pretty steep, so you aren't really getting anything for free.

01 / 02 / 03 / 04 / 05 / 06 / 07 / 08 / 09 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 13 ATTRIBUTE

Think it is a digital only (hence the digital portion) e-book. Try checking one of the places that sells the catalyst stuff online. Think it is only a few bucks.

P.S. Thinking about applying, just no idea what kind of character I want to have.

Yep, fully human here, maybe not all there in the head but the rest is all there. smile.gif

I was on the boards a long time back under a different user name, but I left and when I cam back I couldn't remember the password or email address I signed up with so I started a new account.

I have been playing Shadowrun since the first edition, mainly tabletop but a little online stuff in different forums. I haven't really had time to play the 4th edition rules, but I like what Catalyst has done with the rules and I am anxious to start playing again.

Heh, sorry about the spelling, I did the sheet on Google Docs and it didn't catch some of the spelling/grammer errors. I will go back and fix up the sheet.

I like it quite a bit. I did say "pilot" not "own," and a submarine will be provided for you to play with.
The Nautilus is a bit cooler than anything a starting character could manage. I think you will enjoy it.

I've hired three of you so far, and since you are all going to be spending time in close quarters soon, I thought it would be good of me to introduce the three of you. I've taken the liberty of posting a snip out of your Shadowlinkin profiles. I've embedded information on each of your commlink nodes in the profiles so you can get in touch of each other if you need to.

You three are professionals, so I trust that after you get to know each other, you can tell me if you need more team members.

SHADOWLINKIN::
CODE
Profile: Spencer "Fins" Reese : Human : Age 25
Base of Operations: ???

Appearance: Obvious cyber, big guy, chrome speed.

Rep Info: "New here. He's an ex-SEAL from the looks of 'im. He's kinda frakin' scary, actually, and I don't frighten easy."

CODE
Profile: Gull McNulty (aka Robert Paulsen): Human : Age 29
Base of Operations: New Orleans

Appearance: Meatloaf. Solidly built and frighteningly fast.

Reputation Info: "Who? Oh, right. I didn't recognize him at first. He's a ballsy smuggler. Ex military, drinks alot. I hear he can get you some pretty wiz gear if you have the cred for it."

CODE
Profile: Ben "Swims-With-Sharks" Campbell : Sea Drake(Human) : Age 19
Base of Operations: Seattle

Appearance: Weekend warrior build. Squints at people weird, then tries not to smile knowingly. Intense focus. Broody.

Reputation Info: "Guy got a navy commendation and deserted the next day! Whatever he got mixed up in to get that medal musta screwed him up heavy."

Echo back to me on if these write-ups capture what your character is supposed to be like.
Karoline
No one that can open a door, shut down a camera, or find out anything? And those commlinks, thanks for the contact info. Really should make sure you don't keep anything important on them if you aren't going to bother securing them. Bunch of liabilities, but I could use the money, argent, geld, okane, dhana. Who am I? Well, lets see...

CODE
Profile: B Bandit : Elf : Age 22
Current Base of Operations: Tampa

Appearance: I've heard everything from 'Body that just won't quit' to 'angel missing from heaven' but I've never seen that in the mirror, so I'll let you see when we meet.

Reputation Info: "Not sure what the B is supposed to stand for, but the hacks she's supposed to have done have a black duster hat icon that somehow blinds the icon who activates it."

I already added my contact info to your address books, so feel free to keep in touch.

Also is our employer providing diving gear? If not I'll have to change some things because so far I only have diving armor.

I know you've got a team of 9 already (kicking myself for not posting last night) but I'd like a slot on the reserve list if that's possible?

Been thinking the team might benefit if I switch to the free spirit. (There's already a shapeshifter.) I'll have to come up with a fairly interesting background. What do you think? Sea Drake or Free Spirit?
(FYI - If free spirit, I took the Power Pact and plan on trading the use of Regeneration for Karma -For 1 karma/24 hrs you, too can regenerate. Might be useful for the mundanes...)

I don't see that having two shapeshifters is any worse than having two elves really, but maybe that is just me.

I thought I would let you know that I will be traveling for the next few days, so the game proper won't start until probably Thursday. I will likely have partial internet access, so I may be sending players individual messages from Simon, and working to get players into the same physical location. Don't worry about making your characters backgrounds mesh, as I like the style of Shadowrun pick-up-group that posting a job on the Shadowlands leads to. Simon will take care of most transportation issues, which includes dive equipment for those that need it.

I also want to thank you all for playing and let you know how excited I am to get such a talented group of runners, as evidenced by the care you all put into crafting your characters. This should be wicked fun.
Simon Kerimov

Something to keep you motivated while I'm away. Any player that posts exactly three tropes to describe their character will be awarded 5 Karma. You can get an additional 2 Karma for a short vignette. Whatever you have posted when we start is what we will go with, so you have a few days to pick.

Here is a link to tvtropes.org cyber punk trope. I'm sure you can go from there.
Red_Cap
Gill McNulty never really wanted anything special from life -- a few bucks in the bank account, a Southern belle by his side, maybe some rugrats to hand his gun collection off to when the farm came up for sale. It's hard making a life in the Confederation, especially with all those damn inbred yokels from Alabama and Ole Miss running things in Atlanta like it was the War Between the States, Take Two. (Unfortunate Implication) The Navy was supposed to be a means to an end, but that dried up his dreams real quick. He was just trying to set aside a little extra cash for a retirement home in Tampa. It's not like he was selling tanks -- the Navy wasn't going to miss a couple of assault rifles here or there and nobody actually used them anyway. I mean, the Yucataners needed those to fight a common enemy, the Azzies! Everyone wins, right? (War for Fun and Profit) And now he's stuck in a black market reality where everyone's your boss and no one's your friend. Just to make a living, he had to fill himself with more headware than is probably healthy. It had taken him two days to figure out how to shut off the damn commlink that they installed in his skull; its hard to get used to waking up to an alarm clock that you can't snooze because its behind your eyeballs. (Unusual User Interface)
Combat Mage
Ooooh I love tvtropes.org

I'm so on this. spin.gif I will also write a vignette as soon as I find the time.

Here are 3 tropes describing Kensei:

-Anti Hero - more exactly a Type III: Good Is Not Nice Anti-Hero. His past has taught Kensei one thing over all. Pay evil unto evil. Fight fire with fire. Kill the killers. You can't stop the bad guys by being nice. Kensei can be a pretty mean guy. But only to bad people.

-Hitman With A Heart - He's an assassin but he only kills to rid the world of bad people.

-Berserk Button - He has more than one. Don't prey on the helpless. Don't mistreat animals. Don't take someone's freedom away. Cause you wouldn't like him when he's angry.

Other fitting tropes are (If you don't want more then 3 just ignore them but I was on a roll):
-Lightning Bruiser (How is this muscle-bound 2 meter tall guy so damn fast?)
-The Berserker (Once a fight starts the predatory animal instincts take over and it's hard for him to stop)
-Hero With An F In Good (He just can't live as a regular nice human that follows the rules. He wants to do good but his conviction that some people need to cull the black sheeps from the flock keeps him from being a Knight In Shining Armor)
-Dark Is Not Evil (Looking like an enormous feral tiger doesn't make him evil)
Karoline
B Bandit's tropes (Gezz it took me forever to figure out how to find any tropes for -characters-)

-Badass Bookworm: Better able to defend herself than you might expect, and certainly enters ridiculous levels on the matrix.
-The Smart Guy (Gal): Lowest Mental stat is a 5, highest is double digits.
-Science Hero: What can I say, B Bandit is a Technomancer, tech/science is her life.

Not familiar with the site or how to find tropes or anything, so picked a few of the ones I could actually find and applied fairly well. I'm sure there are others that describe her better, but I don't know what they are.

Edit: After having spent basically the entire day on this horridly addictive site, I've adjusted to the following three tropes that better define B Bandit.
-Disability Superpower: We'll see how long it takes you to figure out the disability wink.gif
-Technical Pacifist: She doesn't want to kill anyone, and if possible not even hurt anyone, but if she really needs to, she will plant your ass on the ground so hard you'll stay there for a few hours. Which brings me to...
-Badass Bookworm: Just don't tick her off, and she won't have to put you on the ground.
augmentin
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to bow out of this one. Somethings came up that'll require me to spend a bunch more time at work. It sounds like it'll be an interesting run, I hope to drop in and kibitz from time to time.
Ghostmaker
The Quiet One - Spencer is the typical quiet one, he usually only speaks when asked a question or if he feels he has something useful to contribute.
Hit And Run Tactics - Spencer's training emphasized hitting the target and moving, if you stay in one spot to long the enemy will pinpoint your location and bring the fire down on your head.
The Alcoholic - Spencer started drinking soon after his last op when almost his entire team was wiped out, he doesn't talk about it and instead drinks to suppress the memories. He is only a mild drinker at this point, usually only late at night or when isolated for a period of time, but it could and is steadily worsening.

Hmmm, this is kind of fun here are a couple more that I think might fit for Spenc

Cybernetics Eat Your Soul - The terrorist act took away a lot of Spencer's meat and the Navy replaced it with metal. It bothers Spenc sometimes, maybe another reason he drink, and he struggles to maintain his human side and fears having to get more cyber.
Anti Hero - Spencer does what he does for money and it is pretty much all he knows how to do, he doesn't really want to be a hero and use whatever means necessary to get the op done.
Ghostmaker
Spencer Reese stood at the end of pier looking out over the ocean, one cybernetic hand flexing involuntarily, the other holding a small bottle of synthahol. He stared out at the gentle waves as the rolled towards the shore, calm, constant and unstoppable. It had been a long time since he had been fully submerged under the waves, breathing in the water through the cyber gills and cutting through it with the fins implanted in his hands and feet. He missed it, but he didn’t want it, not like he use to, not since that night when four of his teammates and friends didn't come back from that water. He took another pull from the bottle just as his commlink beep with a new message. He glanced at it and snorted, so he got the job. The money was good, details light, and it was underwater, his realm, it was almost subconsciously that he answered the posting, and now it looked like he had some prepping to do.

He raised the bottle in salute, "Ready to Lead, Ready to Follow, Never Quit", he took one last pull, then poured the rest into the sea. He tossed the bottle into a can near him, turned his back on the waves, and walked down the pier to get a cab home.
Combat Mage
Humans are a mystery. They are capable of impressive feats. When they focus their energy on good, they can accomplish remarkable things. But when they turn their potential to evil, the horrors they produce are frightening.

The rain is pouring down, heavy drops falling from the black sky. A thick greasy mist is spreading through the alleys of Roseau that form the maze below me. I'm sitting on the slippery roof of a warehouse, waiting, watching. Then, I see his car stop in front of the gate. A black sedan, how chliche. A bodyguard opens the door for him, then he gets out of the vehicle. Impeccably dressed like always. Even in this dump. Ten minutes ago he was with his family, singing his children to sleep, kissing his wife. Now he's at the harbor preparing to inspect a new "delivery". That's what they call it. Girls, mostly from Atzlan and Cuba, shipped here against their will. Destined to be sextoys for paying customers. Not tonight.

He has almost reached the door of the warehouse when I strike. A headshot from the silenced FN-HAR takes out the gorilla. But for him that's to good. He needs to see me, to fear me, regret what he's done.

I jump, drawing my blade while in the air. Landing in front of him, a beautiful silver arc cut's through the darkness as well as his vocal cords. He's trying to scream, call for help, but there's nothing coming out of his throat except a wet gurgling sound. I pull up my mask, show him my face. "When you are in hell, tell them you're not the last to come." I bring down the sword, cut of his head, flick off the blood on the blade.

Humans are a mystery. They have many paths to choose from. And for those that choose wrong my blade will be the only thing waiting at the end.

It's a calm night. A giant feudal Japanese style fortress stands in front of the woman who looks like she belongs in an old west style action flick, a duster mostly covering her form, a black duster hat drawn low to hide her face from most angles. Imposing looking Samurai line the walls of the fortress, patrolling and looking outside for intruders.

"Shigoto o eru tame ni suru koto ga dekimasu."

With that she fades out of site a moment, only to reappear as a shadowy shape, hard to make out in the background darkness. A second similar shape appears next to her, it seems to nod, and in response the first shape rushes towards the walls. Without slowing down in the slightest, the shape begins running up the wall at high speed, cresting the top of the rampart just as two samurai pass each other, a temporary blind spot behind their backs. Using the edge of the rampart for footing, the figure launches itself forward, and disappears into the shadows beneath the wall, now safely on the inside with the guarding samurai none the wiser.

Now safely inside, the shadowy figure solidifies, but instead of looking like the woman from before, it is instead now a simple peasant carrying a basket of rice on her back. She begins to walk further into the fortress, soon passing other entirely identical peasants carrying similar baskets, moving from building to building. One building though seems to have no one entering or leaving it, and so the peasant makes for that building.

The doors open easily for her, but as soon as she steps foot inside a loud crack of thunder can be heard from outside, the skies having instantly gone from clear and pristine to being laden with heavy storm clouds, all roiling with lightning. The inside of the building meanwhile seemed very unimpressive except for a golden dragon statue, and two ninjas that seemed to step out of the shadows.

"Should have known a lord account would have been a better idea." The peasant complains to herself "Time to drop the act." At her words, her form shifts back to the wild west looking woman from before, except that this time in each hand she holds a revolver with an overlong barrel. Without further comment she raises the pistols, firing both at the same time, one at each ninja. Both Ninja catch the bullet fired at them and quickly fling it back with deadly power behind the throw.

The wild west woman drops a gun, which dissolves into nothingness before it hits the ground to grab the edge of her duster, drawing it up to shield herself from the bullets, which impact harmlessly into the leather. "Inshō-tekina."

As the ninja begin to charge, drawing their swords in the process, the shadowy figure from earlier appears next to the golden statue, passing a hand over it, causing it to disappear. "Zan'nen Shōnen-tachi." Dropping her duster, she reveals her other hand, which instead of wielding the pistol it had been a moment ago, is now holding a double barreled shotgun with bores that look as though they belong on small cannons. With a click of the trigger two slugs fly out, catching each ninja firmly in the chest, sending them flying back, crashing through the walls of the small building.

By the time anyone else arrives, all that remains in the building is a black duster hat, right where the golden statue was.
Simon Kerimov

Nice story. 2 Karma awarded.

Are we going to have a more long term OOC thread at all? I figure it'll take time for everyone to get to the meet and such and would like to register a couple sprites while there is some free time. I'm sure the mages would like to do the same for spirits. I'll do a few rolls in a bit, need to restart my computer.

I would like to keep the OOC in the same thread as the IC, just using the color="blue" tag to differentiate it. If people would prefer the format of a separate thread, I'm more than happy to start one.

You are free to post in the meeting thread. Let me know where your base of operations is so Simon can come up with overly complicated travel plans for you.
Aria
I'll get me sheet up on Monday if that's ok...? I stuck up an initial post in the IC thread anyway.
