Credsticks and Certified Cred: A credstick is an antiquated way of carrying money, but still widely in use. Like paper money is today. You can connect a credstick to any standard com (think USB port) and transfers money from or certified cred to it. Certified cred has actually replaced credsticks per se. The certified cred is like an electronic bank draft, drawn against and issued by a bank. To validate its legitimacy, you simply need a matrix connection that will sync to the bank and validate it as the authoritative copy of the cred. Once you validate to the bank, it changes validation keys thereby invalidating any fraudulent copies... So it is in your best interest to validate certified cred as soon as you get it.
You can also get wireless credsticks which slave to a com and routinely validate the funds. Since that kinda defeats the purpose, they are not very popular in my Shadowrun. Most certified cred are drawn against either Cayman banks or Zurich Orbital, both being outside the legal reach of most governments meaning you have little concern of being traced. Though if you are concerned about the Big-10, you better have your cred drawn against the latter.
When you 'spend' certified cred (as opposed to simply transferring it), the bank it is drawn against simply makes a transfer to a legitimate account of funds. Legitimate businesses who receive large amounts of certified cred, tend to have that cred "washed" by transferring it through shell accounts. Illegitimate businesses simply transfer the certified cred around. Banks that deal in certified cred deal in a bit of speculation regarding percentages of certified cred that will never be redeemed.

Electronic communication: Written vs. Spoken: In the early 21st century, people selected between a variety of electronic formats to communicate. Voice, text & emails were the most common. As electronic communication continued to mature, so did voice recognition software allowing more common place live-time translation of communication. By 2070, translation of electronic communication is ubiquitous allowing a person to send as written and the recipient to receive as spoken or vice-versa without concern over the media; It just is.

Maps

1. Puyallup Barrens, Seattle Metroplex: Point of note, this is based upon a map from the turn of the century, when information was still free. We mark it up as we need to.

Loveland, Puyallups
Sitting on the west central side of the Barrens and formerly known as Spanaway, Loveland is a stronghold of the mafia in Seattle. The local government is mostly seated with sympathetic candidates; Unsympathetic ones tend to drop out or disappear.

Places of Interest

Crazy Joe's stuffer shack & road house @ Hwy 7 & 224th St E
Crazy Joe's is a stuffer shack/road house. A retired runner, his security team is top notch and use a mix of GEL rounds and REG, depending upon the nature of the conflict. This is generally the furthest point south that a cab will travel.

Java Jane's: Coffee house @ Pacific Ave S & 170th St S
Strip mall coffee shop ran by Jane, a friendly dwarven woman who has little patience for rude or disruptive customers.

Raven's: Talismonger shop @ 18110 A St
Raven is a talismonger with a soft spot for hard luck cases and good people down on their luck.

Chin's Quikie-Stop: Stuffer shack @ Hwy-7 & 260th
This particular Quickie-Stop had ceased to be a franchisee for years... or decades. Given its location deep in the barrens, it is more Mad-Max than Seven-Eleven. The bars on the doors and windows are a constant fixture and the figure on the roof is undoubtedly a sniper member of security. Only certified cred is accepted in a location like this and its presence is a bastion for the down trodden who live nearby.

Loveland Quinn's: Nightclub @ 22nd Ave E & 192nd St E
A favorite of off-duty soldiers from Ft Lewis for over a decade, the nightclub is nearly a landmark in Loveland. Last year the bar was gutted by fire, claiming the life of its owner. After a complete remodeling, though mostly restored to its original decor, the club re-opened under new management.

Women, Infants, Children and Nora's Soup (WICANS) Shelter: Shelter & Soup Kitchen @ 18020 B St E
Formerly a WIC center, prior to its closing in the 30's, the building became a woman's shelter overnight for many of the women it formerly assisted. Nora was a child who lived here with her mother. Now an adult of about fifty, she has been the proprietor for nearly thirty years stepping up when most of the staff was killed one night by a drunk ork man coming to take his wife back home. She stood in the doorway with an old .357 magnum the staff had stowed away for one of the abused women. In the end, the ork went out feet first and Nora was nominated to carry on. These days Nora and other provide soup and shelter for the down and out.

The Retirement: Bar @ 144th St E & 126th Ave E, Puyallup, WA
Under a mile south and east of the Crime Mall, the Retirement has passed through several owners in the past two decades. Formerly a restaurant & bar it has deteriorated to just a bar. Given its proximity to the Crime Mall, it is a favorite of Crime Mall groupies on off nights.

The Mall, aka The Crime Mall: 136th ST E & 122nd Ave E, Puyallup, WA
Lone Star has been trying to put this place out of business since it opened after the first Crash, but so far they’ve had no luck. It’s no wonder—this three-story abandoned mall on the outskirts of Puyallup is the best place in town to find just about anything illegal you might be looking for. Weapons, armor, drugs, pirated software, electronics, cyberware, magical gear—if you can think of it and it’s not legal, odds are that somebody here is selling it. It’s simply too useful to too many people to allow the Star to shut it down. In the past couple of years some of the core “merchants” there have chipped in to upgrade the place’s defenses (including an AR network designed to confuse the hell out of anybody who doesn’t belong there) and they charge the small fry a nominal fee to participate. There’s high turnover among the smaller merchants as they get picked up by the Star or knifes in a dispute over pricing, but the big ones have been there for years and are well-versed in
staying out of trouble. [ Runner's Havens 116-117]

There are known entrances to the Ork Underground that ensures the escape of the Mall's tenants during the raids. The Mall is not open every night, but rather only a number of nights per month to reduce Lone Star's ability to effectively execute operations.

What kind of weapons are expected to be carried around over there?
Crime mall is security rating Z. No police, except when there is a raid and then they always expect heavy opposition. It's almost a no man's land. There are of course pay offs to keep raids to a minimum.

And what kind of crowd is found there on nights that it's open?
All kinds, except Yaks. Mafia tends to cap them on sight. There is an unwritten rule about open violence: Expect to die. Think of a subway car with every passenger armed for protection. The minute someone attempts a robbery a dozen people shoot them. The big hitters (mafia, several big time fixers, arms dealers and smugglers) provide security for themselves that extend to the areas of the mall.

I was thinking of bringing [insert weapon here] for protection, question is whether to put it in a business suitcase or simply slightly concealed on the inside of my armor jacket, held by some kind of strap over my shoulder.
Any of the above is fine. Some shops have a weapons check at the door. Only carrying the gun in you hand will cause problems with local security.
Security forces tend to carry all types. Those working security tend to have little mercy on people causing problems. Also, getting to and leaving the mall is where you are most likely to have a problem. That is when the vultures seek to relieve those with a lot of tech and little security of their burdens.
An ork gang controls the underground. They are well organized and only the crazy or stupid mess with them.

Mall Office: Inside the Crime Mall
Located on the second floor of the Mall, this is the name given to a former restaurant now serving as a the onsite bar. Smokey Joe is the proprietor. A former runner of some repute, he now claims the bar and has several times been challenged. Joe is ruthless is maintaining his position as owner of the Mall Office.

The decor of the office is pretty unique. There is a long bar that runs along the far wall and out to the middle of the floor making it kind of a "T" shape. There are twenty-eight stools along the bar. Seven along each of the four lengths. Along both walls, left and right, in the room are a number of booths with curtains. You know from experience that each of the twelve booths have white noise generators as well as sound dampeners. Using the booths brings a minimum drink charge every fifteen minutes. There are six tables with four chairs out on the floor area and finally, there are 3 larger rooms in the back for rent.

Puyallup Gangs

Mall Monsters: This street gang holds sway the area under the Crime Mall.
This gang of the Ork Underground runs the tunnels underneath the Crime Mall. They are fiercely protective of the tunnels and extract "rent" (ok, protection money) from anyone who lives too close to the mall. They are high tech, maintain wireless coverage in the tunnels in the area immediately underneath the Mall and have several shamans in their ranks. In the event of Lone Star raids, they insure that vendors who have paid insurance policies (ok, protection money) get away.

The Lifters: This street gang holds sway the area around the Crime Mall.

Persons of Interest

Kilroy: Fixer to the downtrodden, Kilroy was well known in the 50's and was the fixer to know in the Puyallups. A growing rivalry with the Yakuza in 60's culminated with rumors of his death in '61 by Yakuza hit. In '69 Kilroy re-emerged or at least someone claiming to be Kilroy. Kilroy of the 70's communicates only via the matrix and never meets in person. He is either a very good hacker, a team of hackers or employs a team of hackers as he is known to take over surveillance nodes and the like around his teams from time to time.

Go Gangs

Eye-Fivers: In the 50's, this gang claimed I-5 in central Seattle as their turf dealing violently with those who opposed them. From '57 to '59, that resulted in a war with Lone Star that ended with most of the gang dead or in prison. What little remained of the gang after that could barely be called a bottom tier gang. To make matters worse for them, many of their members either defected to other gangs or were killed to settle old scores.
Over the next decade they laid low, rebuilding their numbers but not reclaiming turf. Today they are as much mobile mercenaries for hire as traditional gangers.
