Full Version: Recruitment: T-town recruitment drive

ludomastro
For various RL reasons, several of my players for T-town have had to bow out.

If you are interested in playing in a street level campaign set in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in my own warped view of the CAS circa 2070 please read the IC thread as well as the OOC thread before letting me know.

Use this thread for expressing interest and asking questions. However, I expect you to read the OOC thread to get the build requirements.
Redjack
A recruitment thread up for almost an hour and no posts? Business is off in the shadows.
Karoline
Holidays coming up, people are more busy I suppose.
Grimm
Well, I'm interested but he said not to post until one has had a chance to check out the IC and OOC threads. Which I have not. Hehe.
Thanee
Hi there!

I would also like to express interest. smile.gif

Is it really just Flash now, or have you hopes for Nick and Steve to jump back in?

What character concepts are in the current group? Or IOW what concepts would you like to see from new chars?

I would generally like to make something awakened, like a street shaman or an adept (all my chars currently are more of the techy kind, one of them you should actually know, as she was in the Southern Hospitality game and now joined one of Redjack's games wink.gif).

Bye

Grimm
Alright. I just finished all 26 pages of the IC thread. So would like to express an interest in developing a character. As was already asking, what kind of characters are you looking for to fill holes?
ludomastro
@ Grimm: Willing to accept all character types. Redjack is one of the remaining players and is playing a Covert Ops Specialist so that niche is covered.

@ Thanee: If any of the other players show up I may work an ensemble thing. At present I'm not holding my breath.

@ Karoline: Check your inbox; I'm working on the response.
Zyerne
Count me as interested too.

Regarding character creation, is Arsenal on the allowed books list now?
ludomastro
I don't own Arsenal: so, sadly, no.
phlapjack77
Dang! Always late to the party, it seems...

I'd like to express interest as well

Initial ideas are an Amerind troll summoner, or an ork ganger / mechanic.
Redjack
To add a note about the game and pbp in general:

We generally maintain an overall post rate of 1-2/week. Sometimes higher, but sometimes barely 1/week. The game is a couple of years old. pbp games are slow and take a long time. If you sign up to play, please take that into consideration. In my own pbp games, characters whose players go awol get eaten by freeway traffic or random spirits or falling pianos. (ok not falling pianos yet, but I will use that some day). I'd rather play than deal with players who got in but then disappear...

Thanks!
Zyerne
Was there a "solo" missing from that last sentence?

Anyway, count me still interested, with Arsenal unavailable I'm leaning towards a face.
Redjack

No. Perhaps a little bit of a run-on sentence... "I'd rather play, than deal with players"

EDIT: That doesn't sound right either... How about "I'd rather play"?
Zyerne
One thing I noticed is that while Alex lists Flash as a covert op specialist, you denied this in the OOC thread.

As I can't find a character sheet, Flash is obviously a sneaky fella so I'm going with Alex's interpretation.

(Also, making random observation so I can sign up for email notification, which I forgot to do last time.)

Hackers spreading disinformation.. But that is their job.

I read a blog that claims he's actually the physical incarnation of Deus. Personally, I believe the one that claims he's a lesser dragon though.
Zyerne
Drakes are expensive in a 350BP game smile.gif
Redjack
And they are weak compared to a lesser dragon.
Zyerne
Ah, by lesser dragon do you mean not Great Dragon?
Redjack
Yea.. but we could start a rumor that he's a greater dragon in disguise.

Hiding in plain sight - best disguise ever wink.gif

So, a quick list of the interested:

  • Karoline
  • Grimm
  • Thanee
  • Zyerne
  • phlapjack77

OK, post of a character thumbnail - not a sheet, just the thought process and maybe a hint of background.

Please note, "Kincaid, elf sniper/weapons specialist" is NOT a thumbnail.
However, this is a good start toward what I am looking for:
Kincaid, elf sniper/weapons specialist
Mercenary with honor
Won't back down once hired but will kill the client if he doesn't pay.
Recently released from the service of a very eccentric "entity" in the form of a little girl.
Recently passing through Chicago and looking for work.
phlapjack77
Ludo
Amerind Troll, summoning specialist
Slow and steady, draws strength from the earth
Impossible to anger
Can't cast a spell at all
Total luddite
Kicked out of tribe for "unnatural-ness" - SURGE I (allowed from RC book? if not, will just call it generic "Toughness" pos. quality)
SURGE I would be extra dermal deposits, giving a more "rock-like" look
Moved to Alabama to live with best friend from childhood
Interested in magical theory, nature of magic
Trying to enroll in the local university, but no luck yet
While waiting for university, has been doing work for a local talismonger
Thanee
Here are some details about the character I would throw into the ring. Had this done already (for another game that never really started), and it's pretty close to what I had in mind, anyways, so I only modified things a bit to make it fit. smile.gif

Raven, Street Shaman

Metatype: Human
Gender: female
Age: 24
Height: 1.68m
Weight: 52kg
Hair: black, shoulder-long
Eyes: green
Skin: fair

Appearance:
Raven is an attractive young woman in her mid-twenties. She is of average height and has a slender and willowy figure, with shoulder-long, black hair, typically worn open or in a pony tail. Her green eyes are usually covered behind a pair of orange-colored sunglasses. She mostly dresses in black, but her wardrobe also includes a wide range of fancy clothes. Thanks to her job, she is quite used to wearing fairly revealing clothes, and she doesn't really mind the attention it offers. Her standard dress consists of trendy, washed-out denim pants, a black halter top, fashionable black leather boots with modest heels and her black mid-length trench coat. On her left wrist she often wears a silver bracelet with intricate engravings, her power focus, and there are a few rings on her fingers at most times.

Background:
A traumatic experience in the past left her in a state that few manage to get out of. Hooked up to BTLs and with no motivation or drive left, she was basically destined to wither and fade. Noone would have cared. But Mel was lucky, and she made it out. At first, she didn't think it was real (and even nowadays, where she knows better, she isn't entirely sure), or just a figment of her drug-induced imagination. Whatever it was, it made her curious and it made her follow. It made her take the first few steps of what would become a new life, eventually.

It took a few years, while she learned a lot from her new mentor, until she was ready for a more civilized life. Time heals many a wound, and so it did for her. These things lie in the past now, buried and forgotten. The change she went through made her an entirely new person. She is now able to see the world in a different way, and thanks to her gift and the training, she can talk to spirits and even bend the mana to her will.

Thanks to JJ, with whom Mel had a rather short-lived, but pretty wild relationship, she was able to secure a job in the Concrete Beach nightclub; not the best job, but there are worse, and it pays the rent. She is still unsure, whether there was some kind of revenge for their breakup involved, that she now has to deliver drinks to the patrons in a rather skimpy outfit in front of his grinning face, but on the other hand, there wasn't much else available at the time, so she took the opportunity for what it was. As already mentioned, it pays the rent. And the working hours are flexible. JJ also managed to get her a fake identification, which was required to get employed and to rent the loft she lives in now. He also introduced her into the shadows, and an entirely new source of income, where her gift is a highly sought-after talent.

Lifestyle:
Got this nice place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Halfway between Northport and the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport. Old warehouse, now a so-called loft, top floor. Pretty fancy and laid-back at the same time. And let me tell you, it's huge. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a lot of furniture, yet, so it's only sparsely decorated, but it has all you need. Well, most of it. And I rather spend my money on decent food, really, and to get around town, chill, have some fun. And fashion shopping, of course. While it's not the best neighborhood, it's not the worst either. And as it seems, the security has the area rather low on their priority list, but the locks and stuff are pretty much state of the art. The Matrix connection is really slow for some reason, too. But as a plus, the rent is more than fair. And it does have a nice view towards the airport through an all-glass front. Of course, that goes both ways. Had to put up some room seperators to get some privacy. While I'm certainly not too shy and bashful about myself, there are limits, understood? Underneath, there is a secure parking facility, got a big place there. Plenty room for a car and even a bike. Overall, it's been a very good deal.

Contacts:
Jake 'JJ' Johnson (Bartender & Street-Level Fixer) 3/4
A tall, handsome guy with short, brown hair. JJ is one of the bartenders of the Concrete Beach nightclub, who is upping his salary by working as a fixer. While he is not super successful, he gets to know a lot of people through his job, which makes acquiring new contacts and customers quite a breeze. A few years ago, he had a short relationship with Mel, but they simply weren't made for each other, at least not in a long-term sense. They did stay friends afterwards, however.
Grimm
Just wanted to post that I am still interested, when I get done working I want to do a bit more research before deciding on a character to submit.
Karoline
I'm sure Alex can already guess some of the basics of my character from my pages, but still need some more answers before I can confirm a concept.
Karoline
Oh, didn't see this in the OOC thread. Is it 200BP or 175BP for stats?
Thanee
175 I would assume, as it doesn't say anything about lifting that "half BP for stats" rule.

Bye
Thanee
Zyerne
I'm also awaiting some info from Alex before I throw my thumbnail up.
ludomastro
Hopefully, I have answered the questions that everyone had sent me via PM. If not, or if you require clarification, please let me know.
Zyerne
Angel, Elven biker chick/social adept

Street racer
Does occasional work as a courier
"Little sister" to the leader of one of T-Town's go-gangs
Hispanic ancestry, bilingual in English and Spanish
Girl of many faces
Karoline
Step, Elven Singularitarian

Technomancer with a superiority complex.
Believes she (and TMs in general) is part of the next step in human evolution.
Highly fascinated with the old AIs like Deus.
Dislikes the 'real' world.
Grimm
Griswold
Dwarf Shadowrunner

Not really geared towards any specific area of expertise, but rather a rounded character with experience in a number of areas. Some firearms, some electronics, some explosives, some hand-to-hand, some mechanical.

Took to running the shadows and continues to as a continuous personal test for himself. His motivation moreso than nuyen is just to see if he can do things, particularly if others insist he can't.

Hm, I realize this doesn't seem like a very interesting, engaging character. That's usually how I play most of my characters though. As normal people trying to get by, and letting RP and story build up around personality in game. If you want more background info though I can flesh it out more.

Don't sweat it, this concept sounds cool! I also enjoy playing more of the "normal person dragged into the shadows" rather than the stone-cold pro. So no worries smile.gif

Ok, so we're looking at 5 new folks plus Redjack and the recently resurrected fistandantilus4.0. Total of 7 - a little higher than I normally like. We also have some overlap. Not necessarily a bad thing; however, we need to make everyone aware of it.

Let's review:

Redjack - Covert Ops
fistandantilus4.0 - Former hacker now TM*
Karoline - TM*
phlapjack77 - Summoner
Thanee - Street Shaman
Zyerne - Social Adept / Face?
Grimm - Generalist

* Somehow (old age perhaps, or maybe kids) I have given both fisty and Karoline different house rules for a TM. Not cool. Someone will have to doc me GM points. That said, it can be fixed.

Talk amongst yourselves to see if any changes to the lineup are needed.

---~~---~~---

Posting rules: You must post once per week. After seven days, I'll post for you. After 14, your character may decide the end of his gun is looking tasty. If you are sick or otherwise incapacitated or need some time away for inevitable RL issues, let me know and I'll post for you until you get better.

Any other questions or concerns?

Zyerne - Social Adept / Face?

Amongst other things, yes, face. Face of many faces, if you will.
Zyerne
Also, where do you want char sheets? Here, or the main T-Town OOC thread?

(That's if we're at that stage, must admit I may be jumping the gun there.)
Grimm
Once a week sounds fine to me. And gun barrels -are- in fact, tasty.
fistandantilus4.0
Wow, our crew is looking much more formidable since our last run. Nice.
Redjack
Yea, but both the Atlanta-2070 and Blood of the People/Legacy games started with large crews... I am the sole survivor in each today...
Zyerne
Oh dear. That's prompted a Blue Oyster Cult moment.
fistandantilus4.0
Maybe we should change your title to "DS Survivor." wink.gif

That is a good question though; how many people have actually seen a game through to completion? I know I've ran three that actually finished, and two that made it to good wrap points. (Blood of the People, and the series of In With the Family a while back). Had a lot more that fell of because of people dissapearing. Legacy started with less people however.

You want people to start including references? biggrin.gif

No. I'm good. For my characters, the world is a VERY dangerous place and team mates tend to drop like flies. They accept that as life in shadows.
fistandantilus4.0
Yeah I see that in Nyx. And I agree, btw, I miss the Cape Town game. I've rallied for it a few times. That would have been a great crew. I think Blood of the People did a great job of emphasizing the lethality inherent with the work.
Redjack
BTW: You never spell his name right. It's: Nix
ludomastro
Ok, peoples, we seem to have some nice discussion going. That's a good thing. Keep that up.

As far as character sheets, you may post them in the actual game's OOC thread. Afterward, I will review and let you know if I have any concerns.

For fisty and Karoline:
