Agreed. People have fought the world over and so virtually every culture has had warriors. But without some form of continuity in regards to training standards and the like it's really rather useless and imprecise to start applying the name Krav Maga to whatever Jews throughout history fought like at any given time. It'd be similar to me claiming that the time I punched a guy in the ear is descended from the traditions of Aztec or Viking warrior culture. I mean, yeah, sure, I'm half Mexican and a quarter Norwegian, but really it just seemed like a good idea at the time.
Clearly it is descended from the legendary Mixed Viking/Aztec Martial Art, Hrimgarouatl. This is the original martial art of the American Native people, coming from a fusion of Erik the Red's teachings and those of his companion Acolaua, developed during Erik's years in El Dorado.
As to the question of the relative power of Krav Maga in Shadowrun - yeah, it seems pretty darn good.
