So, after all of the War! hubbub, I decided to poke around some of the other forums where people were talking about Shadowrun stuff. And I promptly remembered why I don't talk about Shadowrun anywhere but here. Because Dumpshock isn't a goddamned cesspool.

So thanks, moderators, for keeping this place un-cesspooly. You have my heartfelt thanks for it, especially since you all seem to do your damnest to stay impartial, or at least as impartial as you can. And that goes for current and past moderators.

Hey, Thanks. smile.gif Always nice to be appreciated.

*Yay for being "un-cesspooly"!*
And here I've been thinking of us as the Red Headed Step Children of Shadowrun.
(My apolgoies to all the red headed step children out there. My wife's one too and she hates it when I say that.)

WHAT does cesspool(y) mean?

Like a cesspool. A pit to store feces/urine.

You know, this is one american expression that I never quite understood and I think it is really funny.
And red chicks are hot, anyway.

Maybe red-headed stepchild is linked back to Orphan Annie? Google suggests it's 1830s, hinting about men who marry women who still carry evidence of having had relations with an Irishman...

On topic, DSF is the first forum I've been to where about 80% of the people who received disciplinary action come back later and say they totally deserved it. I think that definitely says something. *thumbs up*

Im not even sure how to understand this with real words. But hats off to you, as someone whos Irish, I just pissed myself laughing.

On a DS note, as a reformed troll to this site (Im throwing "reformed" around a bit loosely.) I can agree with neZumi. The mods dont needlessly modslap the shit outta you, UNLESS you have done something to be modslapped for. And no one has immunity regardless of your relationship to the mod. You brake the rules, and they bust out the paddle. Something I can say makes this better then most, we all get along. And for the occasional hiccup *ahem* Frank *Cough cough*, its dealt with accordingly and without major incident.

hey. great to be here, not sure if this is the right place to post this
SinN
Theres actually a thread to post to prove youre not a spambot, but im sure its fine just the same.
Gridiz
stunned)..
Stahlseele
And we need that thread, badly <.<
Method
No kidding. We're trying to figure out whats going on. Hopefully its just a wave and will pass soon.
SinN
Yea ive reported 2 just today. Id heard talk of a wave of spambots but i hadnt relized how bad itd gotten.

insert spam

Oh the irony!
nezumi
The EP forums have a function where if three people mark something as spam, the system black bags it until a mod can check on it.

Then again, given this group, might be a bad idea here...
Redjack
That would never get abused here.. Never.... Right?

BIIIG Eyes O.O
One can do THAT?

I appreciate the grace with which several members have taken Administrative Warnings. A number of members have stepped up and said either: I deserved that, sorry. Or I see how my post could be taken wrong, sorry. The other end of the spectrum proves that it takes little to use the Internet, sling insults and set new lows in maturity.

The moderation staff is all volunteer and all come from the community. Being a moderator is a labor of love and sometimes makes us wonder if the grief from the latter types above is really worth the effort... So thanks to my fellow moderators and thanks to the members who post civilly and when they step outside the TOS respond in the first fashion above and not the latter.
toturi
I'd say I have never been warned or have threads broken off and locked for disagreements with the mods. I could even disagree vehemently with the mods and they have let the thread and the responses therein fall as they may. For this, the mods here have my respect and thanks.
nezumi
Indeed. No matter what, the mods definitely treat us like peers, not like 'this is my sandbox, my rules', which I get in most other forums.
Hocus Pocus
but isn't it good to get "down and dirty" maybe with some hot chicks in a pool of jello?
fistandantilus4.0
Yeah but that'd be a different forum. We're all out of Jello. Despite the rumors, there is, in fact, not enough room for it. *shrug*
Tiralee
Damn - you know, I had always assumed that SR forums would be like Dumpshock.

Yes, enjoying here and our Mods a lot more now I've stuck a toe in the world out there.

I just refuse to go to the "official' forums anymore. HUng out there when they first opened but damn there are some ignorant peoples there. Most of my SR group does not come on here regularly anymore, as it is not "official" BAH! the people here and the mods are where the knowledge is at.

Thank You 'Shockers

and Thank You Mods for making this a fun engaging and open forum.
Whipstitch
My single biggest issue with the official forums is the layout. Having separate threads for gear, rules, character critique, general SR discussion, setting history AND a GM's lounge is just too much. I don't even lurk over there, really.
warrior_allanon
I inhabit both the "official" forums as well as DS and enjoy both but i can also agree that the childishness and stupidity run rampant there

But we have plenty of PUDDING love.gif
Stahlseele
Thank you for NOT using a piece of crap software for these here holy boards that decides to autoban you on a whim with no way to contact anybody about it . .
Unlike the official board they started to try and get into competition with dumpshock . .
Method
We try to be objective about things. The active mods all came up from the membership, so we don't feel like we have any more "right" to Dumpshock than anyone else. We also don't feel its our job to censor people.

But somebody has to keep things civil at times, so we do what we can.
fistandantilus4.0
Definitely agree. All of the current mods at some point got a random PM asking them some questions about issues they might have with dumpshock or things they might change, or thoughts on changes to current moderation, etc. Those pms were prompted by other mods going "Hey, we're short on people. Who's been a good, polite poster, posts regularly, goes with the ToS and seems to be known a bit around here?" Then we all compare notes on who we suggest, and shoot the a PM to talk about if they'd be interested. We've never brought on a person that asked if they could mod.

We're all pretty much just glad to be here and willing to help out. It's nice to have previous mods to talk to and take some advice from as well. For myself, I still gauge off of what guys like Neuron Basher and Adam had set up here in the first place. DS works because people are free to express as long as they aren't kicking sand in each others faces. We back that up by not deleting or editing what others say, even if they get Warnings of suspensions for it, as well as avoiding public Warnings.
Stahlseele
And it's good like that.
Can't be aresed to try and remember how many times i got banned on rpg.net allready . .
