Full Version: Mystic Adept Rigger

I'm just curious if a Mystic Adept/Rigger would be a viable character type at all? I've been trying and trying to build one in Chummer, but just can't quite find the right BP balance.

Suggestions? I'm assuming going with something like Hermetic or Qabbalistic might be good for the LOG drain attribute, though? And then taking Way of the Artisan for adept powers and upping enchanting?

I just really like the idea of drones etched with hermetic formulae. rotate.gif

Don't forget as a mystic adept you could summon and create homunculi which can look like your other drones but have substantially different capabilities.

I think there was a topic about this within the last month or so.

My thoughts: Mystic Adepts require stats to do what they do, both Magic and to resist drain. Rigging requires next to no stats, as it is run off the skill/program dice pool when hacking and rigging. These character concepts therefore have very little overlap in what they require to work.

You would then be splitting BP worse than if you have made, say, the more common Mystic Adept infiltrator.

This is going to be a sub-par dice-pool concept, short on either stats, skills, or both. It CAN be done, but you will suffer more than other cross-over concepts.

Think you could enchant a drone with a rigger cocoon to be a focus? Or would that not work, the focus technically has to be "on the magician." What if the Magician is in the focus?

I should think that something like this would actually need the 1,000 KarmaGen variant.

Also ... consider a Possession Tradition, and buy up your Vessel Preparation skill. That intersects well with Qabbalism, which is both LOG and Possession. Then you can park Spirits into your Drones, and forgo the Rigging almost entirely ...

Enchant your Commlink, instead. smile.gif

But the spirits don't get the benefit of any of the sensors or non-mechanical aspects of the drone. Could one rig the possessed drone and control what the spirit cannot?
_Pax._
What non-mechanical things are you worried about?

As for not relying on sensors - GOOD, because even a middling-force spirit is going to have better perception than most drones, anyway.
Makki
do you want to rig, or drive? Rigging requires up to no skills and BP investment, if you get the right programs.

You should read one of my old posts, and the discussion following it - it should explain a lot of useful tricks a Mystic Adept can do.

And yeah, they basically rule if you set em up right.

Oh, I remember that one very well. Great inspiration nyahnyah.gif
As told in the mentioned thread, it is doable. You simply have to know what exactly you want out of this character.

A high logic attribute helps with several technical skills if ou want to take these, too. Just don't overdo it.

I'm currently thinking of swapping my rigger/mystic adept's control rig for something more worthwile, like PuSHeD or some other brainware... we'll see. The Command program does quite a thing right now.

So I'm thinking that between Heightened Concentration (VR biggrin.gif), Math SPU, Improved Reflexes, Multi-Tasking, a cloud of surveillance drones and some beastly combat drones possessed by air spirits and I have myself a pretty scary mofo. Make him a spider and he's even more terrifying. He can be in-tune with a security system while just going about his business for the most part.

I have never really found the Math SPU worth taking. But that is me.

The Movement and Concealment powers that air spirits bring are particularly interesting. Concealment helps your drones stay undetected. Movement is useful because of the typically low body attribute of drones.
Just envision an Ares Heimdall drone accelerated by a force 3 air spirit. Would that be Mach 9?

Math SPU mostly ads in another component of the "surveillance specialist/spider" part. At least that's the reason why I thought of implanting it. An Orientation System in combination with Magic Sense might be useful, too, just edit your info into the three-dimensional map and share it to your tacnet.

It really depends on what you want to do with this build.

I always liked the math SPU, because busting down encryption to break into a node takes time, and you want to do it as fast as possible. I think it takes multiple Combat Turns now.
_Pax._
Also, someone with a MathSPU running Dynamic Encryption to secure their network, makes breakign in absolute murder on the intruder(s).

You also might want to ask your GM for a bonus from the adept power "Analytics" as far as solving riddles goes. It would be something of a house rule, though.

My calculation put it at Mach 8.8, so yea I'd say Mach 9 is close enough. smile.gif

Of course you could always add to the speed by using a pilot check and really go nuts. wink.gif

Reminds me of the Possessed Heimdall I suggested....
