Posting Conventions (IC):
I'd like to follow something akin to a normal literary template for posts. I realize that we have a riot of color, fonts, etc. available to us, but if I have to stop and think about what a particular format means I lose some of the enjoyment of the reading. So here goes:

Please pick and use a single font (except as listed below) throughout the life of your posts in the IC thread.

"Speech should be set off like this, in double quotes. Please make sure to end paragraphs before lines of spoken dialogue, and to start new paragraphs after the dialogue. Just like a book. Please use this color - the code is #00FFFF"

Any internalized comments or monologues should be italicized, like so.

Dialogue or information passed in a digital format should use the font=Times New Roman and Color=Light Yellow tags, as I've done here. This includes texts, files, maps, etc. The color code is #FFFACD.

If it's in a language other than English, please set it off in orange. That's the easiest way to distinguish, since otherwise it should look like any other dialogue or internal conversation. The color code is #FF8C00.

Please bold the names of characters or NPCs to make it easier for me to find elements within the posts. Feel free to bold proper nouns if you want such corporations or locations like the Looking Glass etc but its not a requirement - I just need the names.

Posting Conventions (OOC):
I would like everyone to please use Invisible Castle which can be found here. Then copy and paste your dice rolls to the OCC thread please. Please detail dice rolls out with notes so all the dice can be accounted for. For example, a social adept trying to lie his way out a ticket from local law enforcement:

Con + Charisma (+3 from Tailored Pheromones and +2 from Improved Ability: Con)

Something like that is what I am looking for.

Optional Rules Being Used
Learning Metagmagics (Street Magic pg 52)
Learning Echoes (Unwired pg 145)
Spellcasting Drain (net hits do not add to the Drain Value)

Improving Characters
*Most skills can be improved at any time. Any number of skills can be increased, however, no skill can be raised more than one point per week. The week resets on Monday each week.
*Martial Arts will require an instructor or tutorsoft, and martial arts advantages require a flesh-and-blood tutor.
*Spells require spell formulae
*Initiation and Submersions require in-game components
*Metamagics require magician or free spirit tutors.
*All other rules (like time for bonding foci) all still apply.

Every one please make your first post here a Gear Carried/Worn list and whenever you're changing the gear your character is wearing or carrying, please edit the post. I will check for that post of "Gear Worn/Carried" entry for your character and assume that's what you're wearing/carrying. Same for PAN settings and False ID's. Astral and AR/VR states I'll take from IC posts, unless you explicitly state something here.

In this thread I would like you to answer any of the above questions/concerns. Also feel free to ask questions here or if you prefer more privacy then PM me.

You will get 1 karma a week every Monday starting next week plus additional points rewarded (roleplaying, pushing the story forward, completing a major goal, etc) by me in this thread. Please PM me with any karma expenditures you make. I will ask for updated character sheets from time to time so make sure you have a current copy.

Fat Man's current gear is the Assault Gear set.

Appearance: Fat Man is a short, barrel-shaped, long-armed Asian man of indeterminate age. He has thick pale-blonde-white hair, beard, and mustache, except for some black patches around his upper cheeks.

Fat Man's Gear
Buddha: Also, a note: Fat Man is dual-natured, and so he normally uses Masking/Extended Masking to hide his aura as mundane because he can't turn it off. It's possible for people to see through this. If you would rather roll tests yourself, he would oppose Assensing+Intuition with Magic(6)+Intuition(6)+Power Focus(4)+Initiate Grade(4)=20d6. He also has active foci hidden by the same Extended Masking (because they let him make it harder to see through, and if he's busted he's busted anyways, foci or no).

Counterspelling
Fat Man defaults to providing counterspelling to anyone who is on his team and in LOS, even if they aren't currently expecting trouble. This would, under normal circumstances, include the other PCs.

Discrete
Magical Gear
Force 4 Power Focus [form: a brass ring with a square hole in the middle. He'll normally wear it on a metal band, over the FFBA but under his clothes] (active, hidden by Extended Masking)

Combat Fetish [form: large metal ring worn on thumb of left hand]
Detection Fetish [form: large metal ring worn on thumb or right hand]

Appearance: Q has several appearances which are layered like a parfait or Russian dolls.
First outer layer: This is a magical disguise that effects all the senses including taste and smell. Q is a mildly handsome orc with a scar over his left eye which only enhances his appearance, giving him a tough but not mutilated look. He is wearing an armored leather trenchcoat with under armor beneath and has an Ares Predator in a side holster. There is also a large 2-handed wrench strapped across his back. ((Defeated with Intuition+Counterspelling Threshold 4))

Second middle layer: This is a physically donned disguise that only affects his appearance. This Q has a flat, lumpy face that has been mutilated on the left side. He is wearing a set of Industrious Line heavy duty foreman line technician coveralls. He still has the large 2-handed wrench strapped across his back. ((Defeated with Intuition+Perception Threshold 4))

Third innermost nuggety layer: For Budda's eyes only!

I realized this a while back, but didn't think Zerone would be confident to mention it yet, but can I switch to using his actual running handle, Zero, and not his first name?

I admit, this is my fault because I'll embolden any and every name, and I think I introduced him as that... Still, any chance I can switch to what it should be? biggrin.gif
BishopMcQ
copperheed--Now that everyone has posted and I can reply, did you get the answer to your question about "hidden" mode?
copperheed
JxJxA:
I'm cool with calling you Zero.
QUOTE
Pocket Mage Library (Rating 3, written in Sperethiel if possible)
And what is it? Sounds cool.

BishopMcQ:
I believe so, though let me recap to see if I understand. The modes are a state of the commlink's interaction with the world around them. Active mode is when reaching out for things like using a search engine or hacking something; also allows other commlinks/nodes to send you AR stuff in real time. Passive mode is when you're not using programs outside your commlink, but people can still look at you and see basic stuff; it also prevents annoying AR spam and such. Hidden mode is when you're trying not to be noticed by other commlinks/nodes and don't return their ping; many upper scale neighborhoods regard this as indicators of criminal intent and it makes policing people and drones look twice.

Cypher was in passive mod when letting people download the data packets. He's connected to other devices but only receiving requests not making them. Am I correct?
BishopMcQ
Copperheed--Pretty much. Mechanically, Active and Passive nodes can also be found as a free action, if I query them. Hidden Nodes require a specific test to find, meaning most lay folk won't be able to do it, but tech folks can.
Buddha72
JxJxA I have no problem with you wanting to change your name - good luck with getting the other characters to go along with it since this is an odd bunch.
JxJxA
@ Buddha: Thanks ^_^ It will give Zerone another reason not to call people Mr. or Ms. nyahnyah.gif

@ Copperheed: Thanks ^_^ The Pocket Mage library lets me do data searches on various paranormal and magical phenomena, adding its rating to a data search on the subject. It's on p.67 in Augmentation. I figured it's always useful to have.
Buddha72
Ok all thanks for getting your place holders up!

Next step is get your gear filled out for those that still need to. I would like to have that done by the end of next week - let's say Friday of next week. I was going to let the roleplay go on till Monday then bump to the recon unless you all are ready to bump now. I don't want to rush things - just keep them bouncing along. Let me know.

Fenris if you want you could deploy the drones while the meet and greet are going on and I could feed you the results of those rolls/actions.

All was there any other outstanding rolls I need to address - contacts called etc?
BishopMcQ
I think Emilio called Bakatare
Strangeglove
I'm always in favor of bumping along. There's always time for roleplaying, even during runs.
Conversation is always more interesting when there are bullets whizzing overhead.
JxJxA
Rolling to contact Dr. Rebecca Huxtable (C3/L4) regarding digitally mapping Zero's DNA: Rolled a 1.
copperheed
Did I kill the IC post? If so, that's the 3rd one in 3 days frown.gif
I'd figured it was polite to alert ones allies to morally questionable (among shadowrunners even) powers so that a new group isn't surprised. It has turned out poorly for him in the past with a different set of runners overreacting due to lack of knowledge of Magic. And no I don't plan to use it on party. Zero and Fat Man can also easily put a stop to it as well.
JxJxA
LOL, no, you didn't kill it. I've got writer's block right now, but I'll try and toss something up soon. nyahnyah.gif
copperheed
@ JxJxA: Pocket Mage Library looks quite cool. I'll add it to my wish list. Don't feel rushed, I was just checking.

@ Budda: I've a roll to look at the astral around the Safehouse and its area: 5d6.hits(5) → [1,6,6,2,1] = (2) This was done before people showed up is specifically for the safehouse and it area.

Secondly, where would you like our appearances? And are rolls against the others PC's needed? I'm content to go with defaults since I've a superstition against rolling dice needlessly.
UmaroVI
Extended Masking: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3703601/

copperhead: that would get you that Fat Man is healthy, he is calm and relaxed, and he is Awakened. He has no cyberware, and is a Magician. He does not have any visible active spells or foci.

While we're at it, Fat Man would also be assensing the new people.

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3703605/ why can't I roll like that for something more important frown.gif
copperheed
@ Budda: would it be alright if I put appearance and such in the gear list? That way it's still at the front and everyone can see it.
And I presumed Widget was introduced to me by A as a friend; their actual relationship is totally up to you.

@ Fenris: I hadn't thought it was that direct a moniker. That's awesome that you can control so many. Additionally, is one to presume to presume that Zero is the beta version of his batch and Cypher is an exceptional code cracker (beyond his excellent matrix capabilities)?

@ Umaro: Ah, to have that level of Masking... And I wasn't actually looking at the fellows here with that previous roll mentioned. It was from when I first arrived and checked out the Astral of this location. I'll edit the previous post to avoid confusion. When looking at the other players now that I'm not sustaining Improved Invisibility and Manascape, my default hits to assencing will be 2.

Is there any opposed test (other than Masking or Initiation powers) that reduces assencing? Not that it'd matter against your Eyes of Soul Piercing Prana.

Fat Man looking at Q:
Q is a healthy Awakened individual who is calm yet focused. He has a Health spell and Illusion spell weaker than your Magic and you've read his signature. (I don't know what this is supposed to be. Is this correct? Ex: a shroud of deep, shifting darkness surrounds him with smoke occasionally broiling forth. You catch a very brief glimpse of pinpricks of baleful red light glaring out from the darkness.) His Magic is lower than yours and there are no other astral signatures on him (to my knowledge. Budda may know different). His Magic is 5; the Illusion is lvl4 and the Health spell is lvl3 (do you know the exact spells?); he has bioware around his neck, armpits, and groin. (I figure one needs extensive knowledge of the bioware to tell what it is. If no then I'll replace this with it). He has had attribute increasing gene modifaction.
UmaroVI
There's a few other things, but Masking/Extended Masking is the only thing that really lets you get much done. The Concealment spirit power subtracts dice from Assensing (just like Ruthenium works against Perception), and the False Impression and Manascape spells let you completely replace auras with different ones.

I think you're getting signature and aura mixed up. Someone's signature is a property of any spells and such they cast, and you can use it to identify whose spell belongs to who and to track people astrally (since you have active spells, Fat Man would know your signature). Aura is what you described, and it's unique to each person and can be used to identify them.

You don't get exact spells, only type. You get presence and location of bioware, and actually you just get presence and "location" of geneware too, so Fat Man wouldn't know what it is, just that's it's all over. He would get that you are a Mystic Adept (if that is correct?) since you get "class of a magical subject."
Buddha72
OK going to be posting heavily tomorrow - these weeks has been parent/teacher conferences for me along with 1/2 days at school for my kids so time has been tight. Thanks for hanging in there. smile.gif

That's actually a really good idea. I think I'll do that myself. ^_^
Buddha72
Afternoon all! I'm fine with including in the gear post your description or links to images if you have one - feel free.

UmaroVI keep in mind you need to roll for each person when assensing.

All I need an Intuition + Perception Test (threshold 4) then an Intuition + Coutnerspelling (if any - holler here if you have any going please - threshold 4).
BishopMcQ
Any special senses that would help?

Perception Base (7d6.hits(5)=1)
Audio then Visual bonuses (3d6.hits(5)=1, 3d6.hits(5)=1)

2 hits on either Audio or Visual, 1 hit tactile/smell/taste

Intuition Test (4d6.hits(5)=2)
UmaroVI
Assensing Jon (3 hits), Strangeglove (4 hits), and Breeze (3 hits); http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3705766/. Everyone else he's already assensed. This is enough that he can recognize their auras if he sees any of them again (which is the main reason for the assensing), otherwise he would probably just get information he already knows like that they have lower essence than him and 'ware.
UmaroVI
Buddha: Fat Man is definitely counterspelling himself (since you automatically do that). I didn't mention if he was counterspelling anyone else, but he easily could have been (on a run, he definitely would be covering everyone in LOS). Your call if he's covering anyone else.

PER: Intuition (6)+Perception(1)+maybe(3) for Audio Enhancement or Vision Enhancement + maybe (2) for Visual specialization. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3705775/ 5 hits if that was hearing or sight, 2 otherwise.

Intuition(6) is http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3705778/ 2 hits, Counterspelling (4)+Shielding(4) is http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3705779/ 3 hits. So Fat Man has 5 total, and if he is counterspelling anyone else, they'd get 3 hits from him.

Thanks, it's sort of a character theme ^.^

Cypher definitely seems to know his way around the Matrix and code in general, though Fleet hasn't really gotten a good feel for that, besides the fact that Cypher's managing an up and running TacNet (a small feat in itself, given the complexity). The character has absolutely no knowledge of Zero...character-wise, I'm a bit of a newb with the group too.

Buddha, obviously I have Sniffer (R6), but feel free to use everything else from that post for what I'm doing here...just trying to pick the recon back up. I'm assuming that I have a Matrix link at this point.

Thanks Umaro corrected Roll for masking follows:
Jon has masking on so 10D6=4succ
Regular Perception 6d6 → 2 successes
Smell: 8d6 0 successes
Hearing:8d6 5 successes

Ha my smelling perception sucks today, perhaps Jon should have worn deoderant.

Intuition + Counterspelling = 1D6=2 (0 succ)

Perception:

Intuition:
3d6.hits(5)=0

Lain: other way around. If you have active Masking, you would roll Grade+Intuition+Magic against Fat Man's Assensing test.
Fenris
Intuition + Perception: Perception(4) + Intuition(3) (7d6.hits(5)=3)

Flat Intuition: Intuition(3) (3d6.hits(5)=1)

Vision Enhancement (3) (3d6.hits(5)=0)

I'm also going to be Searching for Hidden Nodes out at the recon sight, see if I can pick up any nodes inside the building, or evidence of external security, drones, vehicles, personnel, etc.

Okay, I know that looks like cheating, but each one is a separate roll, you can check 'em!

And, I'm going to swap my Stormcloud for the Kull for the moment..better sensors and masking.

Alright, Perception for the drones (I don't do that grunt work myself wink.gif ): Clearsight (4) + Pilot (6) + Sensors (6) + Fuzzy Logic (3) (19d6.hits(5)=4)

Perception roll:
Int 4 + Per 3 + Enh per 2 + keen hearing 1 = 10d6.hits(5)=1 - Eklipse is obviously not paying attention to whatever is going down.

For the other roll, Eklipse does not have counterspelling.

Task Agent -- Detect hidden nodes

10d6.hits(5)=1
9d6.hits(5)=4 --17 hits

Also, for everyone who wasn't in the TacNet at the clinic (the hackjob connection for Emilio only lasted the one scene, IIRC) please list out how many sensor channels you have and what they are. They come from actual sensors, cyberwear, glasses/earbuds, simlinks etc.
Strangeglove
Umaro: Assensing Strangeglove, you learn nothing interesting. He's happy, healthy, excited, and mildly paranoid. He is not a magician, and is full to the brim with cyberware.

Bishop: Strangeglove has earbuds, contacts, and goggles. If the specific sensors matter, I believe I listed them in my gear list.

Buddha: Perception 14d6.hits(5)=8

To whom it may concern: (Bishop? Buddha?)
Strangeglove will head out and do physical surveillance of the areas surrounding the office, paying particular attention to places with line of sight to the building. i.e., any buildings tall enough to overlook the office. I'd like to drop some cheap concealable cameras in those areas, if our gearheads have such a thing.
I don't know enough about Shadowrun of countersurvillance to say what tools I should be using to verify no one has any cameras or drones in place, or what I should be rolling though.

Happy Monday all!

I hope you all had a great weekend and don't forget to add your weekly drip of karma to your characters. I am throwing up posts right now in IC and I will follow that with answering questions here in OOC.

Emilio I need you to complete your Gear post please by this Friday.

Thanks!
Buddha72
All Here's the floorplan for the wharehouse - the most recent copy Cypher was able to find.

Strangeglove Perception to look around outside - do you have any knowledge skills that might apply to finding spots for cameras? If not, you could check with the group and see what they know about the idea. I sent you a PM with a follow up question.

Fat Man I am going to go with nothing for the others for right now with the understanding you do on runs and if you want feel free to post your standard spell defense set up in your Gear post.

Other Magicians Feel free to throw up the same on your Gear post if you want - I will use that as the guidelines for when its there or not going forward.
BishopMcQ
Buddha-- to clarify, the agent was making a list of all the nodes so that Cypher can make sure that the team isn't holding out on him and forgetting to mention their smartguns and the like. My EW scans were for the warehouse when we go there.
Buddha72
Oops! My bad - will modify the IC post.

Sorry for being MIA a bit. Here are my rolls, and I'll get an IC post up sometime soon.

Int(3) + Per(3) = 6d6 for 1 hit.

Int(3) + CSpell(3) = 6d6 for 5 hits. If it is a combat spell, Zero gets +2 dice from his mentor spirit for 1 more hit.

A lot happened this weekend! Both here and IRL. From the IC post by Budda it seems that that people had counterspelling applied to them. Can I see who Fat Man is covering with counterspelling? Is there a signature or something attached to them? Upon seeing through the Physical Mask you're going to get a bit of a start. How do the rules cover hiding that if people try to do that? And I'm posting something really quick for SG since he blew my disguise out of the water.

To everyone who sees past the Physical Mask, instead of a mildly handsome orc, there's lumpy, scarred one beneath. And SG was the only one to beat the Intuition+Perception by 3 or more (7+hits) correct?
Buddha72
Copperheed to clarify mages are always covered by their own counterspelling & I was going to go with no spell defense on the others for this instance but asked those with it to put some sort of guidelines about when they use it or don't in the Gear post for their characters. Strangeglove is the only one with 3+ extra hits. As far as I know there is no way to see or sense counterspelling on people.
copperheed
Budda: I see. It seems that Zero saw through the Physical Mask and only Fat Man would see through both the magic and real disguise?

And here is the thing I posted:
"As Q is about to answer Fat Man, Strangeglove thrusts his arm right under Q's nose, almost belting him in the face. Strangeglove sees
a shimmering of light play across Q's ankle. When he focuses, there is a very small patch of skin not covered by clothing, yet instead of skin is a what looks to be thick purple oil swirling around beneath the sock. Jolting his head up, Strangeglove notices that Q's face disappears as he sees through a spell, viewing the malformed one beneath. But even that one is just another mask as he notes miniscule imperfections in its movements. Whatever is beneath that mask needed a large lumpy mask to conceal it self.

Q tells Strangeglove, "It's called Plum Blossom and is very expensive; the owner wanted it to smell that way.""

I wrote this because I'd thought that people had seen past it since Emilio and Strangeglove could identify my real disguise. Can they even see my past the magical disguise to see the real disguise? I'm cool with rolling with people questioning my disguise since it seems like they've pierced the magic in the IC posts.
