Hoi. Letting all of the new and used runners know about the new Neo-Anarchist Podcast. Lots of new folk coming into Shadowrun this year, and lots of folk asking what the best primer would be for the universe. After spending months sifting through walls of text, I was in the mood to stretch my artistic expression muscles. If you want to know more about the Shadowrun Universe/Sixth World, this is the listen for you. The Anarchy in Podcasting Network is live, live, live with 5 episodes so far.

I want to listen when I have the time, but I'm afraid of being rude by listening to it on iTunes, my main podcast manager x(
... I'll have to find an open-source podcast manager JUST for this, or I'll feel bad.

Why would that be rude? The application is in to Itunes anyway, should take a few days, though....

With quotes like these how can you go wrong?
Kinda like Robin Hood, but without that giving to the poor.....
Things just don’t explode like they used to

Look forward to future episodes

It was a joke, since iTunes is basically "the Man" of podcast management, and anarchy is usually "Against the Man"

Lol. Went right over my head! Just think of it as using the man's tools against him!

Kind of dug it. Sounded just like a conspiracy theory radio show broadcasting on the AM.

I thought it was nicely done, though I'd recommend having some "specialists" on as guests, sort of offset the history lessons with some "up to date" or "in my day" know-how. You can have "old runners" giving 3rd/4th ed advice and talking about their experiences, while "new blood" talks about their experiences in 4th/5th ed. After all, you'll eventually run out of "History" to tell everybody, and debates between the old and new skools of running can shed some light on different facets of the eras.

That is a really good idea. Sort of like how Jackpoint is in the books. I suppose that would mean finding like-minded people to help... if only Shadowrun had a forum or three...

So, after finally finding the time for listening:
I liked it. It's fun and lighthearted and gives a good synopsis on 'what happened so far' in your own words.
Very creative and entertaining!
Please keep up the good work

Now, for the criticism: The background music is nice at the start and ending of each episode, but while you're talking, I found it highly distracting.
Also, your microphone appears to be a bit close. Every time you emphasize something or talk loudly, it sounds like it's overmodulating.
Opti
Jun 25 2013, 07:52 PM
I hear ya, Bannockburn. We are low-tech at the moment. I will look into the overmodulating thing, and I am already messing around with lowering the music. after episode 8, please give me some more feedback on that issue. Thanks for listening!

I really dig the history podcasts! This is pretty amazing, if you need voice Actors, I'm sure a bunch of the people here would love to help. It would be neat to have a few "call-ins" to aid in the Coast to Coast AM feel.
Also, +1 on the idea of doing some alternate jackpoint style debates. A more pink mohawk version of jackpoint is an amazing idea.

Ol' Opti hails from Chicago! Also, I believe I heard that Missions Season 5 is primarily in Chicago as well. Glad the ending came as a surprise. It did to me too! It was an actual event that happened while recording. An actual wasp attacked me and while I was trying to kill it, a cockroach ran across my ceiling. I figured I would record a bit more and add sound effects, lol.

The Podcast will be silent next week. I'm headed to Denver to research Dunkelzhan's Rift..... and possibly steal something... or not. Something big went down not too long ago in Denver, and I'm pretty sure something of value, that I have been searching a long time for, was left behind. Imma grab it, little crows. I'll let you know how it goes.... Also, pray for any Aztlaners who cross Ol' Opti.

I just wanted to say that Tir Tairngire is pronounced like "Sheer Shay-urn-gyre". It's either Gaelic or influenced by it. I only say so because I pronounced it like you did in the podcast until about 3-5 years ago when I was corrected by a former freelancer who has an extensive knowledge of the various elf plotlines all the way back to Earthdawn.

The Spirit of the Sixth World speaks in the tongues of the Fourth World and disregards any languages developed between them.

Like I said, I mispronounced it for almost two decades. Tir nA nOg, BTW, is pronounced "Sheer Nay Nooooog" from what I understand.
You may have to go to the Wayback Machine to get them anymore, but Ancient History (aka Bobby Derie)'s posts are some of the most insightful ever on Shadowrun's metaplot and language.

Ok, after some more looking, it appears the problem is that there is no direct translation of the "T" from Gaelic/Irish into english. It is somewhere between a T, a SH, and a Ch. so if TSCH were able to be just one consonant, it would fit. I'll make it work, on the show, but damn, there should be some sort of fragging lexicon or something just for our fictional universe, lol.
