Are Avatars enabled or disabled here? If enabled, can we import them?

Disabled. Chance of them ever being enabled: Zero.

That's cool - I was just asking, because it is still an option under My Controls.

That would explain why it would not register the avatar I had selected.

Screws up the bandwidth. Unlike Bulldrek, they also crack down on pust-pumping, thank Gnu.

What if you were to allow avatar images, but only if they were hosted OFF-SITE?
Of course, this is still very abusable -- one person links in a 1280x1024 porn jpeg, and that couldbe trouble... though anyone that did that would probably be banned or suspended for a long time, lol.
Most Dumpshockers seem to be people with a lot of cluons, though, so I don't think that would be much of a problem. (Cluons are those elementary particles that grant us clue-ful-ness -- as opposed to Bozons, which land us in the CLUE files.)

To do that effectively they'd have to review every picture before allowing it, and inevitably some people would choose "borderline" pictures that either get refused while the person involved insists that the pic is fine or that get passed and then someone gets offended and yells at people and...
Benefit for us: minor
Cost to us: potential exposure to pictures we may dislike, also minor
Benefit to admins: this thread goes away (minor)
Cost to admins: dealing with problems outlined above plus more that I have no doubt failed to consider. High to very high depending on cluon/bozon ratio.
Not gonna happen.

actually...I have avatars on my forum that are remotely linked and really I'm just thinking of cutting out the whole avatar side of things all together because that remote link idea really sucks. It really depends alot on the integrity of the server that the avatar is stored on and a clean connection with it. You can't always garantee that, as I'm finding out.
