RAW says a jammer if its rating exceeds the signal of a device, that device's signal is blocked.

It also states that ECCM software can add its rating to the Signal Rating to see if is overcome by the jammer.

It also states that a device can never use a program greater than its System Rating.

The only "devices" I see with a System Rating are comm links. Sprites, drones, Agents have a Pilot rating but never a System rating.

Since only comm links have System ratings, then only comm links can have ECCM software loaded.

A signal rating 6 jammer will affect everything of lesser rating, that means your smartgun link, and all those small devices on your body can not communicate to you, because they can not have ECCM, yes the comm link you have can have it, but your smartgun link, etc can not.

pilots = system rating, and all items have a system rating = the device rating which for most items is in the 2-4 range.

Actually, all devices with any kind of computer in them (and thus, any kind of possible matrix presence) has a System rating. Most aren't statted out in detail. Instead, various devices have Device ratings, which is used in place of System, Firewall and Response. The device rating table is at the beginning of the Matrix chapter.

Which is the very good reason that cyberware has hardwired links to your nervous system, and which makes a better argument for skinlinks.

Thank you Lagomorph, found that one,,Pilot can be used for system for vehicles, drones and agents.

So a drone, agent, vehicle could have a ECCM program running but never greater than the Pilot rating.

Eryk where in the RAW did you find that information?

This makes having a directional jammer of rating 10 very interesting.

Fairly cheap just hard to find. smile.gif

But the spell Interference could be over cast and "maybe" have more than 10 successes meaning it is rating 10 jammer.

Yes.

Device rating is described on p 213, chart is on 214.

yes Thanks Eryk, that is correct but on page 214, the pilot rating is only used for vehicles, drones and agents. Both pages seem to be at odds with each other......

But anyway the most device rating I see is a 3, and drones and vehicles have at most a pilot rating of 3.

Signal ratings of 0 to 5 are overcome by a rating 6 jammer. Yes a device rating or pilot rating could have a 3 ECCM for a total figured strength of 6, that means jammers of 7 or greater will, block them out.

Very Interesting, rating 7 jammer or 7 successes on that spell......

Of course, there's no reason you couldn't upgrade a device's matrix attributes, in the same way as a commlink. For example, a drone rigger would likely want his drones to have a high Signal rating. You could do all that using the upgrade rules at the end of the matrix chapter. Drones (and other devices) could become a lot harder to jam if their owner cares to put the money and effort into it.

If you check the example characters, you can see they have done so in the case of the riggers.

<<shudders at the thought of using the example characters due to the many issues their are with them>>

Good point.
