Full Version: Seeking online group

FXcalibur
Hello. I'm looking to join an online group that operates around these hours, give or take several timezones. I play shadowrun 3E. but I don't mind trying anything new out. I'd just like to find a group really, but I would prefer the group to be pretty active. Again, I'd like to stress that I just want to find a group.

Edit: Heck, I might even be able to make it if it's a totally out time zone. I'm that desperate.

I live in Asia, Singapore.

i'd be interested, unfortunately i'm at -6gmt so i dont imagine we'd be able to find times to coordinate anything, being over 12 hours apart but good luck with that.

FXcalibur
I'm free most weekends, or at least most saturdays. If your group has anything scheduled around that time, I'd be desperate enough to give it a shot.
pseudoidiot
oh, i dont have a group unfortunately. i dont know anyone else around where i live that even plays shadowrun. i'm just lookin for any chance to play right now nyahnyah.gif

How does 9PM-2AM Eastern Standard Time grab you?
FXcalibur
If my conversion of time is correct...

21:00:00 (9pm) EST converted to GMT+8 equals 10AM the following morning for me.

Looks fine. What day do you play?
Wounded Ronin
Friday.

Use mIRC.

When you get in, tell the people there that you are interested in playing shadowrun. We were sort of looking for new players anyway. If you have any problems, send me an email at...

Okay, I dropped by late and left early. Not typical SR, so what's the game about? I only got it was set in 2006.
pseudoidiot
here's what zen, the gm told me about his universe when i was talking to him before we started.

AtomicSteif:This is an alternate history set in 2006, and the premise is that in 1939 Stalin never purged the Red Army, and thus Operation Barbarossa Failed.
AtomicSteif: This puts the Soviets in Berlin by 1943 and the war turns from being against Germany to against Russia.
AtomicSteif: They fight to a stalemate in Poland, divide it up, and the Cold War's still going strong in 2006.
AtomicSteif: This also hinges on one other discrepency with our timeline.
AtomicSteif: Chiang Kai-Shek never gambled in Manchuria, and Mao set up the PRC there, instead of taking over the mainland.
AtomicSteif: So you have two Chinas, Korea is Unified and on the side of the allies, and the two Chinas, with Soviet Backing, just went to war.
AtomicSteif: So you're presently being sent in to destroy a huge stockpile of Biological weapons in preperation for a huge NATO military action.
pseudoidiot: nice. so just humans, or have metahumans as well?
AtomicSteif: Metas. Since there was no Vietnam, the hippie movement in the 60s was spawned out of the awakening in 1963.
AtomicSteif: President Kennedy in fact got goblinized and had to resign.
AtomicSteif: What else...Mexico went Socialist and tried to invade in 1970, and Nixon nuked the hell out of them, we own 4 Mexican States and Cuba as a result of the war, and Mexico City and vicinity is a radioactive wasteland.
AtomicSteif: The USSR disavowed any knowledge of the war plans in order to avert Nuclear war.
AtomicSteif: Nixon then got swept out of office in 72 for 8 years of McGovern with Carter as Secretary of State, and Israel took over half the middle east.
AtomicSteif: Since there was no time for the Final Solution, and thus most of the Holocaust averted.
AtomicSteif: So you play US Spec Forces, there are Shadowrunners out there, mercenaries that sorta work with the US government, but for the most part it's all military.

and he didn't say it specifically, but i figure the extended length of the cold war is what has caused a boom in technology which is why we still get cybertech and other such stuff.

-------------------------------------
if you're interested in playing next friday, there's another run scheduled for the same time, but it won't be that universe. someone else will be running, and the setting will be regular shadowrun (or so i take it), but we'll all be playing corp-teens. he hasn't decided on restrictions and how character creation will work yet, though, but i don't see why you wouldn't be welcome. he said he should know by wednesday what he wants as far as restrictions and such. if you're interested i can post again when i know or pm you.

FXcalibur
Sounds good, thanks.
Wounded Ronin
Well, as I understand it, someone else is GMing next week, and the setting in that case would be the PCs being corporate brat kids. So, that would be more mainstream shadowrun, except with toned down PCs. However, we have not recieved any specific character creation rules at this time. Uh, I guess I'd post them here as soon as I get them if I get them ahead of time.
Wounded Ronin
OK, here's the scoop.

For next week's game the guy who is GMing is running a campaign in which the PCs are a bunch of unprofessional snotty corp kids who are living under the Mitsuhama umbrella.

Character creation guidelines:

GM: "No. I'm probably going to limit it to 90,000 nuyen, maximum of 6 availability and 20 spell points/five adept points, however."
FXcalibur
I think I missed the game. How did it go?
Wounded Ronin
I had a really really good time. Everyone was playing a Mitsuhama brat. Basically, the PCs went to a rich kid's party but then the party was held up by gangers with light pistols, baseball bats, and an SMG. One of the PCs inexplicably had a silenced laser sighted pistol and wasted the SMG guy. Everyone was thinking that this was totally lame but it turned out at the end of the adventure that being a rich mainstream kid that PC got into massive legal trouble for carrying a silenced accessorized unlicensed firearm. rotfl.gif Then the firearm was confiscated and the PC utterly failed to successfully contact any of his contacts who might be able to supply him with another.

So it was a very funny extremely fun low-power adventure. Playing as a snotty rich kid in the SR world was a very fun change of pace.
