Okay, I was digging through my collection of Shadowrun books today when I happened to notice a copy of Survival of the Fittest that I've bought but never ran. Considering that my local gaming group just went paws up a couple of weeks ago, I figured I might as well give a shot at running the adventure on this here forum.

Just as a heads up for those who care, I tend to enjoy mixing things up with published scenarios and run my games extremely freeform, so many of the scenes may/will not play out exactly as the book dictates.

Anyone interested? Sound off and I'll cook up some character creation rules if I hear enough voices. smile.gif
skipprjoe
yarr i'm in if you'll have meh grinbig.gif

oh and i havent read nor will i read survival of the fittest
Digital Heroin
I'm with the group of have nots for the arc... mainly because adventures are something I never purchase... so I'm interested, but what are your creation requirements?
WinterRat1
I am also interested.
Suenert
I would be interested.
Edit due to spoiler.
Tought that was common knowledge.
skipprjoe
shoosh dont spoil it fer us *peergrin*
FXcalibur
interested.
BishopMcQ
I'm in if you'll have me
Shalimar
I'm Interested, depending on the creation rules.
Drain Brain
Never having read SotF, I'd be interested in joining in, if there's a requirement... just let us know the creation perameters...
aeon
might be interested, depending on the creation and options available.
paul_HArkonen
I'm in period, (pending of course your aproval of my character) but it would be nice to have character creation rules.
Nightcrawler472
If you've still got space I'm in...funnily enough I've been kicking round an idea for a character for the past few days...took some notes last night, and I'll start turning it into something solid once the rules are up.
Kickshot
Alright guys, here's the deal. Character creation guidelines are as follows:

-Acceptable systems are: Priority, Build Points (125), and Sum-to-Ten.
-No caps on availabilities or ratings -- if you can pay for it, it's yours.
-Betaware, deltaware, and cultured bioware are all fair game.
-No shapeshifters, vampires, ghouls, etc.
-Twenty questions is not acceptable -- a full background must be written for your character.
-Contacts: anyone higher than lvl. 1 cannot be purchased. I will work with each player's background and assign appropriate contacts to the team based on that, so make 'em detailed.

That's to start. After you're done, tack on 100 karma and 500,000 nuyen -- cash-for-karma and vice versa are not viable options. Street index does not apply to anything you buy with your post-chargen money.

Unfortunately, I don't have Matrix or Rigger 3, so those who wish to play a decker or rigger will have to draw only from the main sourcebook. However, I don't trust my ability to make the game as engaging for you guys as it can be without those two books, so I would advise that anyone who chooses to play one of the aforementioned archetypes design their character so that they can do something else besides drive or deck.

If there are no riggers/deckers, I'll be throwing all the complex rules out the window and handle everything with a single dice roll against an appropriate TN by someone with the right skill so that the game doesn't lag down. You guys can also choose to hire other people to fill in those slots if you want, though someone with a decent vehicle skill and/or computer skill should suffice.

I'm going to try something unconventional just because it makes sense for this particular campaign: you are all going to start as a team right off the bat. After I've received and okayed all the submissions, I'll put up a thread where you guys can exchange character information and whatnot - personal history, strengths, weaknesses, anything you think a group that you've been working with for awhile would know. A leader for the team must be chosen - I can pick one myself based on your skills and backgrounds, but I believe that it would be better for you to decide amongst yourselves.

I just want to make it clear that I'm looking for dedicated players. I won't enforce a necessary post rate or anything like that because I understand how life sometimes gets into the way of good gaming, but please try your best to post consistently. Forum games tend to get a bit slow at certain areas, and sheer stubborness in sticking with the adventure during those times is highly appreciated.

All prospective characters can be emailed to k i c k s h o t _ j t @ hotmail.com. Without the spaces. I can also be contacted on AIM if you have that at the screenname Sarcastic Rodent.

Deadline ends one week from today. Here's to a good game -- I'm looking forward to playing with you guys. smile.gif
Digital Heroin
Dude... you just had to lift all of the caps... evil, evil GM... now I need to debate on what to play...
BishopMcQ
DH--I think if we all throw in some ideas of what we were thinking of bringing, we could start rounding out a team...

My thoughts were either a ranged combat specialist--pistols, rifles, etc. or the technical specialist...lots of computer, biotech, demolitions, and driving skills...
skipprjoe
well, since most will be busy buying deltaware, i'll take one for the team and pick up the uber-rated maglock passkey, consider it done.

just took a look at maglocks and there's the biometric type to consider for, for which we'll need either a decker to get finger/palm prints, or a sharp knife nyahnyah.gif

I guess i'm fixin to be the B&E specialist at this point..i'll handle getting us around once we're in i guess, it's gotta be done.
Digital Heroin
Uber Maglock Passkey? Why bother when you can just get a guy with the right skills?

I was going to modify my gunslinger adept (and still might, considering he'd ba able to use his twin Thunderbolts). But I may go mage instead...

time is life in my experience, do you wanna be there for 60 seconds base time while your B&E chummer rewires the keypad maglock or 10 seconds base time while he runs a drek hot sequencer that'll likely crack the keypad in a finger's snap flat most likely?

lightning raids are good, crawling like a turtle thru heavy machinegun fire gets chummers geeked; don't worry bout it, i'll pack the skills and the drek hot toys to get us thru the security, leave it to me grinbig.gif
skipprjoe
kickshot, you say no limits on ratings? does that mean skill ratings too? like can i have an electronics B/R of like 8 or something if i can pay for it with build points?
aeon
Interesting question. I doubt it tho. Would be nice if you make that clear dear GM smile.gif

If you guys don't mind i will play a mage, not quite sure what kind.
Damn, i could get quite some elementals with 500k wink.gif But it's probably going be a shaman anyway.
Alternative would be a guy for support fire, in case things get hot and out of hand. I should work on that Troll-Sniper i had in mind for a military campaign.

How many runners are going to participate?
Drain Brain
Indeed - good question.

I was thinking of (and have created already) a sort of "Jack of all trades" mundane, based on a Tech-spec. All Surveillance and Security based, with some ass-kickery thrown in for good measure. (and the aforementioned passkey...)
WinterRat1
Is there a limit to how many players you will accept? If so, what are the selection criteria?
Shalimar
I was thinking a Street Magician specializing in fire(combat). If there are enough spots, from what I have heard of the run, a Magician and a Shaman would both be helpful.

you wanna handle the B&E then drain brain? either way is cool with me
Kickshot
Right now I'm thinking 5 or 6 players, give or take. Unfortunately, considering the number of folks who have expressed interest in the game, I probably won't be able to accommodate everyone. There are no selection criteria at this point except for quality - whip up the best character you can and we'll take it from there.

No, the ratings thing only applies to equipment. If you want to raise a skill above 6, you'll still have to burn karma.
Kickshot
Actually, there is something that I should note: given the nature of the campaign, it would probably be better if your characters are somewhat altruistic in complexion. That's not to say everyone needs to be a saint -- just that those who would firebomb a nunnery for fifty nuyen and a supermarket coupon book need not apply.
skipprjoe
are metavariants allowed?
BishopMcQ
Given the ideas being thrown around here, I put together a Face type with leadership and a nice SUV that he loves to drive.

That should jive with most of the concepts that everyone has put forward. I will have a history posted up later tonight.
skipprjoe
i'm going to let drain brain cover the technical specialist (b&e) stuff as he said he already has an uber maglock passkey and i'll be working up an elven street samurai from portland in the tir tairngire.
Johnson
Would it be to late to ask if there is still a open seat?
FXcalibur
Always wanted to play a troll tank with the really heavy stuff. Either I get that or i make an adept or mage.

i think in all fairness, our game master is accepting as many applications as he gets and he's going to read thru the backgrounds and pick the best ones out of em as a way of whittling it down if there's more runners than 'employment slots' on this one, so feel free to come up with something really good and put your chips down so to speak
skipprjoe
are we using the rules for martial arts forms instead of the generic unarmed combat skill?
FXcalibur
Decided to do something different - a parahunter troll tank.

I need to know what you would mind me buying. I'd like to get hardened miltech armour - that okay with you?
Nightcrawler472
I'll be going for an up-close Elf gun slinger...ex KE so he'll be pretty well equipped but not massively, and he wont have masses of deltaware either (though that's 'cause I don't have Man & Machine anymore).

I'll probably take one of those multi-weapon systems from the Cannon Companion as a main gun, though he may go for pistols only, not decided yet.

So I'll just be around for extra firepower I think...I would do a decker but I'm not familiar with the rules for the Matrix, so I'll pass (I have a hard enough time with the basic rules)
skipprjoe
the GM doesnt have the matrix book, so the only decker rules being used are the ones from the main book if that matters at all to ya.
Nightcrawler472
Not really...I start college in 8 days so I've not got the time to start trying to learn a whole bunch of new rules while worrying about college stuff.

So, I'll stick with my gunbunny/weapons expert type.
Kickshot
SkipprJoe: Metavariants are allowed. Yes, we are using the martial arts rules in CC -- if you just want plain old unarmed, take Brawling.

Johnson: Yeah, SkipprJoe pretty much explained what I would've said. Feel free to toss me a character.

FXcalibur: Sure, buy what you want. Just keep in mind that I'm going to scale the opposition based on how powerful you guys are, so hardened armor for you most likely means APDS ammunition for them. wink.gif
FXcalibur
So if I buy laser weapons the enemies will have lightsabers? nyahnyah.gif
WinterRat1
I'm thinking I'll go with a 'speed samurai' since i'm not picking up an excess of street sams, and I haven't played one of those in a while. Do we have any snipers? I haven't done that lately so unless anyone really wants that I'll probably take the long gun spot. Otherwise, I'll probably go with a fairly balanced weapons layout.
FXcalibur
I've got a troll tank all done (first paracritter i've made who hunted with a HMG and laser). He's got quite the arsenal - Panther AC, Ares Heavy Laser Plus, Ares Redline, RPK HMG and Vindicator. It's quite a lot, I know. I want to know if the others are using less top of the line gear. I could remove some stuff so the GM doesn't have to ramp up the opposition.

Excuse me while I go write that down in my notebook.

Seriously though, don't worry too much about making your characters too kickass in their chosen field of expertise. This is intended to be a high-powered campaign, after all. Once everything is said and done, I'll compare your sheets and suggest some adjustments if someone is too overpowered/underpowered.
Shalimar
I have my character's background and stats done, I should be shooting off the history via email tonight, but I do want to do a little fine tuning statwise once we know whats going on with the other people in the group, If I'am the only one interested in playing Mage, I would be more inclined to take different spells then those I have currently picked.

As a side question, Magicians specializing in Fire get the 2 dice bonus to combat spells and fire elementals, would they also get a 2 dice bonus towards a fireball spell, or is that just wishful thinking? biggrin.gif

In any case the Character is a full hermetic mage specializing in Fire and Combat spells, with the standard complement of background spells, Levitate, Improved Invis, Heal, etc, though I might like to shift some of those if another mage or Shaman is present.
FXcalibur
by the way, how do you handle grenade scatter rules?
Ecclesiastes
Got room for one more? I'd love in if you do.

Sorry man, that's just wishful thinking. smile.gif

QUOTE

Scatter rules, by the book. However, the target number to throw back a grenade that is not reduced to 0 scatter is 10, not 8.

Send in a character and we'll see if it makes the cut. smile.gif

Sent. The character has more than 100 karma, but it was all earned from play. If you want me to scale him back to 100 karma, let me know and I'll make whatever changes are needed.

My apologies. It has been duly noted.

Sorry, has to be 100 karma and 500k. If you want to use an old character, it'll have to be scaled down to meet those figures.
