Hi there, it's been quite some time since last I posted (under an old incarnation at that).
What are you folks doing to play your tabletops over the internet? Have you found any good ways to cross that 1200+ mile gap and and feel like you're in the room next to the group?

You could try
this.
I actually did play some Vampire: the Masquerade over a conference call once. It went a bit wrong due to one unforseen problem; I could not keep a straight face when I heard their accents. I mean, I could just about get used to my UK group talking about 'the Embrace' and 'the Masquerade' (those capitals letters are very important) but hearing a New York accent abusing some of those words... Then the Texan trying to pronounce Jyhad...
I think it is all to do with me being English, then once walking into a Dunkin' Donuts in Florida and hearing someone from NY mangle the word 'croissant'; I swear to you, she managed to fit an 'x' into the word somehow... Now, that accent just makes me laugh.

i do all my rp'ing on
shadowland. it's basically a gaming board geared towards in-character posting--built-in die roller, persistent setting, etc.

What, no comment on the webcam, J? How else am I going to get into your Saturday game?

You laugh, but if I can't find anyone else we might just try that.

I'll toss my vote in for openrpg, its a nice looking program, even though it's a bit dnd heavy, has the dice rollers and map options built in, all in all its pretty nice,

I'm not a fan of OpenRPG or IRC. I prefer MUSHes-- for Tabletop, I mean. Just get a room, get rolling code, and you're in business. They seem to me to be far more stable than the others, and I just dislike the IRC 'flavor' per se.

well, the irc i can understand, never faniced playing a game on aim or anything.. chatrooms are for chatrooms, but for me, open is different, i donno why, although im sure it's much the same sort of coding, im happy with it, and the dice and the maps and the mini's if used are all supported and there.
