So, anybody else planning on playing?
Backgammon
Not me..
Nikoli
Care to cite a reason?
Backgammon
Pay to level up... actually, I didn't even read up on it. I hate levelling. I hate paying every month to level even more.
thewhiterabbit
I'd definitely be interested in playing. (Another addiction.. wee!)

Nikoli, I wonder if my husband is keeping a similar list of the quirky things I say. spin.gif
Nikoli
It's entirely possible. I just wish I could expand the list through spoiler tag or something. I have more, but they aren't good enough to bump anything
KillaJ
My buddy has been pestering me to start playing one of these newfangled MMOG's and I am trying to decide between WoW and EQ2, anyone have any thoughts on their respective merits?
Hocus Pocus
interested in that a friend IRL is gonna play it...I might get it then. I play COH now but not often enough. If he gets it I probably will....just beat WOW III so I'm currently into the whole world.

KillaJ -

I will admit that I haven't played EQ and that I have played WoW. I know a good bit about both of them and would say this... if you're new to MMOs I would suggest WoW. Though... since you're a gamer... you might not get hung up on some of the less newbie-friendly features of EQ. Both games have a lot to offer.

The other piece of advice I'd offer is - go where your friend is going. Unless, of course, he's doing both. smile.gif

ES_Sparky -

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not too concerned with any complexity issues. I figure the day I discover that I'm too stupid to play a video game is the day I do the rest of the world a favor and throw myself in front of a bus. Besides it can't be any worse than SR's rigging rules can it? wink.gif

Is WoW sporting any cool features that set it apart from the competition? I was checking out the website and the game seemed to lack a certain...pizzazz. I guess my main concern is, why (if at all) should I choose one of these two turkeys over COH? biggrin.gif
Hemlok
Think of CoH as the gimmick game that's setting itself apart to get the players with decent actual play to support it. Think of WoW as the refined, honed, finetuned divine blessing from on high that dwarfs all the other MMORPGs.
KillaJ
That's a pretty strong statement, I guess I had better give it a second look.
Hocus Pocus
I have played Asheron's Call, EQ, and COH. I was on AC the longest as it was quite fun, EQ I hated, and COH is pretty good. As was said the totally new direction COH has made it the best of the 3. I haven't played WOW yet though. I do miss the pure core magic elements and the wizard and warrior motiff, however since I don't have alot of time to devote to an online game WOW would probally fit my bill better since it is geared more to the casual gamer, meaning you can level to 60 (current max level) within a span of like 2-3 weeks If what the WOW boards says is true, and not have to grind it out on other games like EQ2.

Still nothing beats flying and in COH ya can wink.gif WOW you have animals that'll fly you to certain places, but I don't think you'd have full control of a flying creature. Like I said before it is because of my RL friend going to WOW that I probably will try it out, if he wasn't going to do it I'd stick with COH
HeySparky
CoH has a great playfulness and a few mechanics that make playing with friends of wildly different levels much easier. Doable even. I haven't picked it up yet and probably won't just because superheroes aren't enough of a draw for me.

WoW has it's own form of flying though - on the backs of griffons, hippogriffs, giant bats and more! It's part of their public transportation system and it's pretty freaking cool. It's not self-propelled like CoH, but the view is great.

Reports are coming in that EQ2's a really good game. More mystery and adventure in the exploration-of-the-unknown sense than WoW and CoH. Still, WoW will get my money as I love Blizzard's great mix of playfulness, immersion and polish. They have so much style. Such a strong art vision.

Hocus Pocus - I can't imagine mere mortals leveling to 60 in 2-3 weeks. I won't say it can't be done because I don't know.
Siege
That's what burned me on playling Lineage 2 and ultimately all MMrpgs - I play it for fun and then get stomped on by some socially lacking sixteen year old twit who kills me for fun because he's spent entire weeks of his life attached to his computer screen.

-Siege
Diesel
I play MUDs lately because my computer sucks hardcore at home. Shattered Kingdoms is pretty nice, RP-enforced, free-PK so long as there's RP justification, mentors...I like it. wink.gif

Hocus Pocus
great veiws no doubt on WOW...i've downloaded some trailers and they look nice.

Leveling is one of the complaints in WOW. The boards say that the game is geared to casual gamers, some of the supposed beta testers agree. If you casually play you can reach the higher levels really fast even if you play sporadically. One of the main things some people hate as they'll be grinding and hit the limit in no time and then complain that there isn't enough content nyahnyah.gif

Eq2 is outta the question for me, my rig just isn't juiced enough to play it and I cannot afford spending the cash to update my specs to meet even the minimun requirements
Nikoli
How sad is this, my new comp has a second monitor connection, so now I have 2 monitors, wow forums on the right and dumpshock on the left...
Nikoli
Just wondering, is anyone else going to be playing and if so what?

Main:
Night Elf Hunter

Alt #1:
Dwarf Warrior

Alt #1:
Gnome Mage
KarmaInferno
I probably won't. From what my friends in Beta are saying, it's grind, grind grind XP and then go sit and click a button a billion times to raise your craft skill by a point.

If I wanted that I'd still be playing EQ.

-karma
Nikoli
It's nothing like that.
The only grind is if you want to grind.

When I stopped trying to grind out some silver and started focusing on quests, I went from 20 silver to 80 in a very short period. And the crafting system is the easiest yet. You open the skill, the system tells you what you can make and in what quantity and then you click either create (and say if you have materials for 12 and you only want 3 youcan automatically make only three) or you can click create all. and you get a skill up almost everytime and there is no failure on combine. no more camping for 2 weeks to get a rare TS drop only to have it fail. And you actually make a profit selling goods to the vendors. This blows EQ out of the water, and I've been an EQ vet for some time.

I will be playing. I'm still not entirely sure what I will be playing but I'm in. I am looking for something with a cool pet. I assume that this probably means hunter, but I would imagine at least one of the casting classes would be able to summon/bind a familiar of some sort. The official site seemed a little sparse on details and I haven't found any unofficial site that had any useful information to plan my character with. If anyone has a favorite site they want to pimp or just some advice I would be quite appreciative.
Bigity
I'll be playing, a night elf rogue. I played in the open beta and got to level 13, before playing all the other classes.

This game, so far at least, is defainatly casual friendly. Getting to lvl 13, I had about 5 minutes of "down-time", and I was soloing the whole time. It was great compared to the grindstone of FFXI.

The high level content might be lacking, but I doubt it. PvP is going to be a large part of the high-end, as well as the tier 1, 2, and 3 instances. The only one open in beta was a Tier 1 (meaning the easiest), and it takes the max of 40 level 60 players, and was not beaten during the beta tests. (As far as I know).

Blizzard is also promising to keep adding content, aside from just expansions.
Nikoli
If you want to name your pet, go hunter.
The Warlock gets the shapely succubus and has some of the best dots in the game from what I've ben told.

Yeah, this is possibly one of the only games that is solo friendly and doesn't have needless,un-fun complexity (can anyone tell my how or why there could be 25 different types of solar energy?)

Even resource gathering is fun as it's like a little mini-game.

Also, I suggest we work together to play on the same server on the same faction. It'd be nice to get a DS guild going.

Sounds good to me. It looks like Alliance then? It seems a Paladin would cover a couple of bases we seem to be lacking at the moment, so I'll go for that. I am leaning towards Human, but I don't think it will make much of a difference. Is there any word on which server the DS guild will be located on?
Nikoli
I also have a friend inthe area that will be playing. though he may end up on a server with an old EQ "uber" guild

Last I checked the servers weren't named
Nikoli
Well I'm in and on the Gamora Server in the Central Time Zone.
Send some mail to Pelloa if you want to say hi.

And that's Alliance side
HeySparky
So far:

Central, Alleria, Alliance, Dwarf Hunter - Siobahn
Central, Blackhand, Horde, Tauren Hunter - Nonahkee (PvE)
Central, Thunderlord, Horde, Tauren Hunter - Nonahkee (PvP)
Eastern, Argent Dawn, Alliance, Human Priest - Avalbane

Feel free to whisper or mail me if you like.

Nikoli
Sad, I don't play those servers...
Aristotle
I've got a Night Elf Hunter (23rd level as of last evening) on the Earthen Ring (RP) Server. I'm *quite* fond of this game. I cancelled my SWG and FFXI accounts the same day I got it, and haven't logged into the Matrix beta in forever.
