Ears and Madrigan:
[ Spoiler ]
You both notice Harris drop something very small on the ground while he’s “reviewing your work.
Ears, Madrigan, Mickle5135:
[ Spoiler ]
You’ve certainly stomped on a lot of run of the mill rats and bugs but some of the things you’re scrapping off your boots and pointy sticks are… unusual. A quick reference reveals that they’re mostly bugs and more commonly deeper underground, in places like the OU. It’s odd but not totally without precedent, and you have been visiting some pretty run down places
Digital Heroin:
[ Spoiler ]
I curse your dice! Curses! 5 successes?! On a default? Bah!
At anyrate your whip quick mind notices some pretty unusual bugs and animals crawling into your traps or getting smashed by the troll. Unusual enough that you pump some of their info into your commlink and utilize the ID program the city provided. By refining your search parameters using information you didn’t even realize you remembered… you are able to come up with some interesting points:
1. The number of bugs and rats has been increasing since the beginning of your shift. If you check back through previous shifts logs you can confirm this opinion. The increase has small but it’s been occurring steadily over the last couple of days. Your hacker sense tingles and a datasearch/analysis seems prudent… maybe even something a little sneakier.
2. Some of these critters, especially some of the bugs, are from deep underground. Right before you broke for lunch you could have sworn you found a single sightless lizard of some sort, pale white and looking just a little bit lost. Running it through you commlink you find out that it’s a cave creature, one that normally doesn’t venture this far above ground.
If you want to investigate further, let me know what you’re looking for, how, and what tricks you might be using. The more detailed your parameters the lower the threshold to find out will be.
Ears:
[ Spoiler ]
You hear a pulsing sound very faintly. As you focus it resolves itself into a distant pulsing wail… probably an alarm? It’s coming from the south and you think hard to try to remember what all is around you. Well Ft. Lewis is down there… with the SMG and what not down there… uh… hm…
After some thinking you become convinced that it the alarm couldn’t be coming from from Ft. Lewis, it absolutely HAS to be coming from the Salish-Sidhe border and is probably the result of someone trying to run the border. In fact you have a sneaking suspicion that the alarm is the “Chemical Attack alarm. You’re fairly certain you heard about it on a the ‘trid a couple months ago.
Mickle5125, Madrigan:
[ Spoiler ]
You both hear a high pulsing wail, very faintly as it sounds to be coming from far away. Cocking an ear you realize that it’s coming from the south, from Ft. Lewis. Thinking quickly you remember that Ft. Lewis is down that way and that there are always alarms of one sort or another going. Usually it has to do with the drills the run in the Urban Combat Simulator.
Madrigan, your knowledge of the area is a little clearer so you’re better able to pinpoint is coming from and your fairly certain it isn’t coming from the UCS. Thinking it over you aren’t quiet sure what’s in the area it’s coming from.
Alright I think that’s everyone and the results of all your tests. Let me know what you guys want to do aside from eat delicious Thai food.

Too bad about Goldirocks, but I'll look forward to our new guy popping up.

Yeah, I'm going to rule that you really can't hear it. As you mentioned in your IC post, a lifetime of finnish troll deathmetal does take it's toll on ones ability to hear.

Results!
>Infestation Data: There's definitely been a spike in pest infestations. MAC call numbers have been rising steadily and private companies have reported higher earnings that usual for this season. Additionally a quick view of the hiring market reveals that pest control specialists are in higher demand than normal. All point towards a rise in pest problems... but nothing that anyone has found particulalry shocking. You have a fairly fat set of data... but it needs some sorting before any of the really juicy bits emerge.
>Geological Events: Nothing of note leaps out at you. They uncovered a giant pit/sink hole in the Ork Underground last year... but that's not an event so much as an oddity. Checking the webtrid you don't see vast daemons climbing up from the darkness.
A little more poking shows that these lizards live in and around the OU so they're pretty common. What's unusual is that they live there comfortably and rarely leave their underground dwellings.
>MAC Node: We'll get to that.

Digital Heroin: Results For MAC Hack
[ Spoiler ]
You stride easily through the neon emerald causeways of the Seattle grid. Fresh on the heals of two profitable searches your feeling pretty good. The music of the ‘trix crackles in your head as you easily parse your way towards the grayish spires of the Municipal network. Approaching it you see off the shelf IC programs patrolling the exterior just behind an aging and outdated Firewall (Rating 3). You rush forward, mind straining forward to easily swat aside any probes or IC…
Than you do the equivalent of trying to sprint through a doorway without opening the door first.
Crashing headlong into the Firewall your icon crackles dissonantly and the digital equivalent of a huge red flag flies. The node reacts instantly to the obvious threat (you) and immediately begins probing for your icon. Fissures open up along the walls of the building that represents the MAC central node. Beady red eyes blink malevolently through the fissures. As you try to recover you can feel the code around you surge and you are aware that all those red eyes are now focused firmly on… you. Doors along the perimeter of the node begin to close and it’s obvious that the node is attempting to sever all external traffic.
Suddenly, you feel the data around you shift and the feeling that there’s something lurking on the edge of your Matrix perception is overwhelming.
<Alright, roll me:
-Matrix Initiative
Summary: There’s something out there. The node is aware that you tried to hack in and has located you via it’s free analyze (but has yet to launch any programs). >

GM Summary:
I'll try to do these summaries regularly, they're just a way for me to touch base with all of you and let you know what's going on with the game and what not.
I apologize if all this stage setting is going kinda slowly. This is my first PBP game and I'm used to having plenty of time for 15-20 minutes of setting RP to go down before the run proper. As it is I've noticed that things are moving slowly so I've restructured the plot to accomodate. At the risk of ruining the "suprise" this is the last setting up scene before "things" start happening. That said several the of the PC's have some information they will probably begin sharing with the party before you dive into the next scene. I wanted to let you guys pose your characters, and let the rest of us know how you like to RP and how your characters act. Since that's out of the way, we can get to the good shit...
You know the running and screaming and running parts.
Moo Hoo
Ha ha.
One other thing, I want to make sure you all realize that I consider you directors as well as actors in this story. If you want to stretch a scene out for some reason bring it up here and see what other people want to do. If you want to end a scene and move on, post that as well. I as GM may of course ignore you but I think you'll generally see that I won't.
For god sakes let me know if you (the player) are getting bored.

Two things:
1. I should point out that this alarm is going off INSIDE of a military base, one that you aren't authorized to enter except under some very loose interpretations of "Code 4" emergency authorization. This by no means should dissuade you from checking it out, I just want to remove any misunderstanding that you have a duty to act in this situation.
2. Mickle5125 gets the first spot karma award for reaming the troll axe for uh... carrying his troll axe in public

You are of course welcome to convince Harris that you guys should check this out...

Oct 18 2008, 11:32 PM
Unless someone wants to run off in a totaly different direction, I'm ready to go forward too.
I have two plans to get to the mysterious pill. Which one I'll try depends on the answer to "We don't by chance have an airtight container that can be closed by remote?".
So, what is it, keeper of the holy gear listings?
DocTaotsu
Oct 19 2008, 04:38 PM
*Dice roll... not really

*
Wouldn't you know! They have a couple of "specimen" containers of various flavors and sizes (some with preservatives, some with heavy gasses that kill things, some with nothing but air) Hell they even have one with a little air filter capable of producing various atmospheres (high oxygen, low oxygen, low nitrogen, ammonia, etc).
Sizes are:
-Zippy cola can
-Shoe box
-"Box" (You know those cardboard boxes for storing files and stuff? That size box)
-Cooler (The kind you'd tote the beach)
Zippy cola, the drink that drinks you, can be attached to one of various drones. The other needs to be "hand collected".
There are also just SCADS of oversize match box containers. These can be operated by remote as well, when attached to a drone of course.
To answer the follow on question: What kind of drones do we have access to?
Well... quite a few of them. There's a particular brand of crawler drone designed to collect specimens and the gear list says there are at least 4 ready to go. The only problem is that pulling them out via AR requires "Senior Shift Leader Authorization". The work around is that you can always just walk up and yank them out of their charging ports (they're loaded into a drone rack of sorts in the crew cabin.) A quick read through of MAC regs basically point to the whole authorization thing as a way to keep people from sending them out one mental whim only to forget them at job sites when they leave. Supposedly research has shown that physically pulling them from the cradle seems to remind people to go back and get them.
Why they couldn't make an RFID beacon/AR reminder is beyond anyone else. The date stamp on this particular MAC regulation is... Buddha on a bicycle! It's from 2055? It's amazing these drones don't have fiberoptic cabling!
Dumori
Oct 19 2008, 05:04 PM
I should have marcus finished tonight. So those drones will be his field of expertise.
Ears
Oct 19 2008, 06:15 PM
So, if I get this right the cola can type container can be closed by hand or via drone but not remotely if it's not attached to one. Right?
Anyway I'll have Alan buy two cans of lychee juice (well, closest soydrek equivalent) before leaving the glorious feeding hole.

You're fairly certain Harris wasn't listening in on the conversation to figure out what you guys were planning. He does however seem... antsy, he's hiding it well under his usual attitude but he's definitely excited about something.
