Full Version: Lost Wages in 2063

Aside from a few government and military facilities, casinos are the most secure places in the country. What would Las Vegas and specifically the casinos be like in 2063?

Here's my take on it. Chem sniffers at the door, spirits everywhere, magically active are shadowed by watchers set to scream if they do ANYTHING magical -- cast a spell, use astral projection or perception, etc.), headware requires you to wear a restraint on it (Math SPU and headware memory can break a bank with card counting), skillwires and reflex enhancers are probably restrained as well so you can't try to move the craps dice or change your bet faster than the dealer can notice -- and the pit boss is probably wired just so he/she can notice this type of thing, and damn near every security guard is going to be wired or otherwise enhanced out the ass.

I'd also expect several new games trying to push regular games out. Simsense-based slot machines with different gimmicks and poker/blackjack on a machine rather than hand-delt would be featured prominently as it's much harder to count a deck when it's digital and can be "shuffled" thousands of times between each hand. Traditional table games might be restricted solely to high rollers.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Hard, hard, Matrix security.

It's also quite possible that, depending on which is more expensive in Vegas (rent or computer processing) that the whole casino thing might be virtual.

in fact, i would wager dollars to ducats, that there is most assuredly a "retro-style" virtual casino in vegas. Something along the lines of classic mob-era vegas simulation.. but with real money on teh line, of course.

You're all a little late, Las Vegas was done in the Native American Nations book long ago. It is much like Las Vegas today but home mainly to indians, and the loosest gun laws on earth practically. Almost every citizen is packing heat, up to and including shotguns. All citizens are more than happy to join in fights against criminals and it has a VERY low crime rate. Casinos still deal in physical chips and not in cash or cred for the most part, and people still have to cash in and out at the cage.

Yeah, us gamblers are stubborn that way. If I can't roll my money over my knuckles or shuffle a small stack of it, it's not gambling. And I friggin' HATE slot machines. I deal with computers too damn much to trust my money to them too nyahnyah.gif

I'd rather trust FanPro with that ^_^;;

and of course we still take cheaters out in handcuffs, for everybody too see. setting an example and all that

Knowing who would be running some of those casinos, the handcuffs would only come off when there's a bullet or twelve in your skull.

i think the industry standard for the cuffs to come off (IIRC) is 3 bullets as of 2001, they may have upped it by 2063 wink.gif

I always thought it was 2 from a .22, but I figured a burst from an automatic would work better and be more likely what with magical healing and hidden armor and all that crap floating around.

Which is why you use a suppressed .22 and the new called shot rules to put one in the back of their head/ear canal. biggrin.gif

I love the fact that the Comanche mob is big-time in Vegas. That's just cool. Really throws the stereotype of the wise, peace-loving native on its head, and is a nice break from the Mafia.

Not quite. The Verontesse family still controls Vegas for the Mob with the Commanche's being the new up and comers and wanting to take over. So you've basically got a Mob war in Vegas. Which is a cool idea.

Actually ran a few games on this ages back and it was fun using all the old steroetypes but with the new Amerind bits thrown in. Basically decided that the reason the Mob wasn't run out of town on a rail after the formation of the NAN was that with the relations between the NAN and UCAS/CAS being chilly, the Mob was basically smuggling them supplies from the east under the table. Of course, grattitude only goes so far, and after quite a few years and the new situation... biggrin.gif

Someday (someday...) one of my characters is going to hit up the slave market in Vegas for a meat toy or two. Someday....
