I've had one sitting on my shelf since they came out, pretty much just sitting there. I had hoped to keep it, but I could use the money.

I've tried to keep an eye out from time to time on eBay for them to see what they are worth, but I've not seen any on there in a long time. Any clues?

EDIT: Ok, posted a link to the auction, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=320247910247

The unhelpful answer is whatever people are willing to pay for it. Best advice is to put it up for auction with a reserve set at whatever the least you're willing to accept it for it and take your chances.

Doesn't eBay nail you with a fee if you put a reserve on something and it doesn't sell?

That fee used to be practically nothing, I don't know if that has changed.

I don't know what yours is worth, but mine, which I won at the 2006 Gencon SR Tourney, is gonna be buried with me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) And, before you get any ideas, the grave is going to be unmarked. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

It's only worth what people are willing to pay for it. Since Catalyst has reissued SR4 the market for the core book isn't that hot right now. The collectibles game is a risky one.

I'd like to take this time to thank CGL for reissuing SR4 in hardcover and not some flimsy crappy paperback.

This means I don't have to wish daggers into their faces like I did to Wizkids after the 3rd ed idiocy.

I think he was referring to the limited print, black leather bound edition, not the regualr hardcover.

Just took a quick look at Shadowrun listings on Ebay right now and it's pretty quiet. Only 97 items. A big chunk of them are copies of that MS game selling for 10-20 bucks. A few cards from the CCG. Old adventures & sourcebooks look like they're selling dirt cheep. And a single copy of the 4th ed core book (non collectors) selling for $24.88 as a 'buy it now' price.

I'd say it looks like now is a bad time to try and get into the collectors market, the interest spawned by the PC game has flatlined and Catalyst hasn't come out wiht anything really new and shiny. If you aren't desperate (like trying to pay rent) then I'd say hang onto it.

It actually sounds like if your desperate to pay the rent you're probably better off donating plasma.

In fact if you're willing to work off the books I happen to know a guy who... j/k (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

But seriously, plasma donations good times if you're hard up for a little cash. Provided you haven't gotten any tattoos recently or indulged in half a dozen other past times that could potentially mess up your blood.

Cool! I don't have the number off mine at hand. It's currently sitting on a bookshelf about 700 miles away as one of the items I have already "moved." I am relocating from Indiana to Wichita at the beginning of the month and getting married soon after.

Speaking of which... are there any gamers in the Wichita area that are looking for a new player? Hell, maybe even a new GM, tho' it would be soooo nice to be able to play instead of run. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Right now at least you'd probably make more money too. IIRC the limited edition books were 70-80 bucks when they first came out. I'm not sure mine doesn't have a price tag but I doubt you'd get even that much for it. It just isn't 'collectible' enough yet. Assuming Shadowrun continues to see success you'd probably have better luck when a 5th edition *ducks* comes out. New editions tend to drive up prices, even temporally.

For example, IME copies of the OD&D boxed set typically sell for 150-200 dollars. I've seen them as high as 400 recently, I expect this is because of the buzz about 4th edition.

Collectibles are so fickle, though.

Your best bet is to hold onto it, seal it up someplace airtight and in about 150-200 years, when books no longer exist, pull that baby out and sell it to a collector who values books. It my be worth millions of yen (or whatever currency we are using, it surely won't be the dollar) to an interested collector of books.

I doubt you will ever be drawing much money for it being "Shadowrun".

Collectibles are EXTREMELY fickle. See the 90s boom-and-bust of the comic book market. Remember Beanie Babies anyone?

A SR v.1 limited edition hardcover might fetch a decent price but you'd be lucky to break even on a limited edition print of a still relatively-new version core rules system. It doesn't help that Shadowrun doesn't have the positive name branding of D&D or that the recent video game was horrible. Sorry to be such a pessimistic balloon popper.
